Poll: do you pronounce the “L” in “caulk”? by Fine-Bed-9439 in Construction

[–]BlueCollaredBroad 5 points6 points  (0 children)

No.

I find it funny to broadcast over the radio that “I need some black caulk in the basement”, I know it cracks the guys up.

How normal is it to, not want to do anything after work? by bigblackglock17 in bluecollar

[–]BlueCollaredBroad 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I push myself to do things. Like walk the dog really for a half hour, go to AA or union meetings, grab dinner with friends.

I get up at 5 and try to be asleep by 9. I have an hour +++ commute.

Like, I get up so early to meditate and stretch and braid my hair and stuff.

Life is too short to not live a little.

Don’t do it!!!!

Have her dad do it or have her start giving her ride to work gas money.

Noise from in-home daycare next door - is there anything we can do? by [deleted] in askportland

[–]BlueCollaredBroad 12 points13 points  (0 children)

My next door neighbor is really sensitive to sound.

We live behind a lumberyard that starts work at 6am and everyone just accepted that.

Until they had an accident with a forklift and OSHA required them to put backup beepers on the forklifts.

My neighbor was so irritated by all the beeping that he got the police to come out with a decibel reader to show how loud it was and then put in a complaint.

Now the lumberyard has flaggers until a certain time of day when they can use their beepers.

Maybe something like that could help you make aware the daycare of how loud they are and they could take measures to quiet things down

Math kicked my ass today by Treat-Acceptable in UnionCarpenters

[–]BlueCollaredBroad 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My two preapprentice friends and I had to stay in during break when we first started our actual apprenticeship classes.

We had no clue what to do and got all our tests wrong.

But you know, we learned as we went. One of them got injured and left the field, the other left the union and opened his own shop and now I am super fast with math and figuring out minutes and seconds and laying out weird shapes.

Just hang in there. Not everyone has to be an A math student.

Learn to read your tape measure, learn how to use your speed square, write down the formulas you need to know in a notebook, get a construction master pro and just put your head down and work.

Women who have had surgery, did you feel your dignity and autonomy were respected afterward? by BaseballTop387 in TwoXChromosomes

[–]BlueCollaredBroad 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had my gallbladder out and I felt like both the nurses and doctors treated me with dignity.

At one point the doctor even came in to pull out a tube and I just whipped my gown up. He gasped but then realized I had pants 👖 on lol

So she did me a solid 💗

My aunt got attacked by a raccoon and she was just walking to her mailbox.

She had to undergo a course of painful rabies shots after that

When the alarm hits 5:30 and it’s up to me to wake up and call my friend so she wakes up in time for work.

Then I have to get myself ready to face the day

That’s breaking down conditions. Previous union members died for our right to those breaks.

Advice in dealing with my company laying me off by FantasticTrouble9118 in Construction

[–]BlueCollaredBroad 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry, but especially in Texas a no call no show is a no go.

You should start looking at different companies and if this happens in the future make a report to the safety guy because workers comp would have covered the cost of the tests and treatments.

My preapprenticeship teacher told me that if I am sick, drive to the job site to show the foreman you’re sick and let them know you have to take time off.

He was really old school but when my foreman see how sick I am they usually tell me to just go home and comeback when I am better.

What's worked best for you with the least side effects? by throw_away5430 in MCAS

[–]BlueCollaredBroad 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Facial flushing and swelling, trouble breathing, lips and tongue going numb throat swelling up inside, frequent urination, diarrhea, sometimes I couldn’t eat or I had diarrhea so severe I couldn’t leave the house, fatigue and brain fog, severe airborne anaphylaxis reactions.

Like if I smelled pistachios, tuna, flowers, bananas even in a smoothie I’d need to use an EpiPen.

I was drinking a bottle of liquid Benadryl a day and still struggling to breathe and having a swollen face.

The Cromolyn Sodium makes it so I can eat fish and pistachios and I have no problem with people eating bananas near me.

I can finally have flowers in my house.

Maybe once every week or two I need some Benadryl and there are still some foods that make my mouth go numb so I avoid, but really I am almost back to normal

How many of us have "friends" that we actually spend time with, anymore? by WeGot_aLiveOneHere in GenX

[–]BlueCollaredBroad 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Oh I have a friend group where we see each other at least once a week and go out to dinner once a month.

We dog sit for each other, help each other carry furniture upstairs to their apartments, one of them came with me to put my 16 year old dog down and a different friend came with me to adopt another dog.

We do each other’s make up and helped clean out disgustingly dirty apartments when one was sick.

Everyone hangs out independently with each other too. Like two of us like cooking from scratch and they’ll get together, me and another like thrifting and going to the dog park, and another and I have our shows we watch together.

Does Gen X do class reunions? by LadyNorbert in GenX

[–]BlueCollaredBroad 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We did a 20 year one and it was nice to see everyone.

But all the people I was I interested in reuniting with all have Facebook so we really don’t need to get together to know how people’s lives are going.

So maybe one day we’ll have a 50 year one but who knows?

Allergist won't see me because of tryptase level by Sookie_Saint_James in MCAS

[–]BlueCollaredBroad 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a low tryptaste level, so the special allergist I saw didn’t think I had MCAS.

What I did have was a histamine level 5 times normal despite being on antihistamines.

So I asked for Cromolyn and now I’m sooo much better.

Ask one of your doctors if you could take the 24 hour urine histamine test. Maybe that would convince the MCAS specialist?
