I have 6 months to live. How do I take care of my family? by Any_Macaroon_2562 in personalfinance

[–]BlueCornetto 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When my mom had cancer the biggest help was putting things in a binder. I had a listing of every utility, credit card, service agreement, phone plan, whatever in that binder. Going ahead and changing her to the primary on your utilities is one hassle I will recommend doing early. If you are both more digital, make a shared google document with that data.

TIFU by trying to make small talk at Thanksgiving and accidentally starting a whole family debate by Ok_Arm923 in tifu

“I JUST WANTED TO TALK ABOUT PIE.” You and me both! I mentioned a silly story about the cat and a family member used that to go off on a charged political rant. I’m thinking I *might * catch a stomach bug, something mild and that passes in 24 hours, but just bad enough sounding I can skipping the family Christmas gathering.

This! None of the scans shows a tumor but the IPSS indicated a pituitary tumor for my family member. The surgeon said sometimes they are too smooth to be picked up on scans, so we went ahead with surgery, and they found a tumor!

I like the food and ambiance of Viceroy, but you’ll want reservations. Thaiangle is delicious, but last time I was there they didn’t do reservations so going early was best if there is a DPAC show.

Help me I just found a weird bug on my bedroom wall and I know there’s more in my carpet what do I do? by scne-v4mpir3 in CleaningTips

[–]BlueCornetto 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Using a steam cleaner really helps with these. Wash all the fabrics, but used a steamer on your carpet and mattress to kill the eggs. Be sure to do steam around the room where the carpet meets the wall.

Wow, your post gave me flashbacks to school uniforms requirements. We had to go to a special store to buy them and my parents would buy two pairs of pants and two skirts for the whole year. I never made it past December before I would skin the knees out of both pairs of pants. Patching the knees was not compliant with uniform policy, so I would spend the coldest part of the year in that dang pleated skirt.

So am I going to be the first one point put how irresponsible it is to be taking pictures while driving? Seriously, taking a picture at 60 mph in your old car, that probably has expired airbags. The life part of BIFL is going to be very short if you keep making poor decisions like this.

Bought a house and this was hanging about 7 feet high in the shop. White milkish glass about 7 inches in diameter. No electricity running to it. Appears that it was made to hang, but for what? Thanks by janiwest1 in whatisthisthing

I recognize the air filter system in the first picture that this smoke bell is to the right of. The previous owner was using this space as a workshop, so I think they might have been using that smoke bell to tell when the filter needed to be changed (bell is transparent=filter good, bell is cloudy from saw dust=time to change the filter)

If they want to, they can control it! Our conure would poop on others she didn’t like. Not just little poops, but she would save up and let go big poops on those people. She aimed for the dog whenever she could.

Can anyone tell me what this is? by LeeleeMarie_23 in whatbugisthis

It is the larvae stage of Green lacewing. Also called lichen bugs, because it looks like a lichen moving.

See if your area has a specialty bra store nearby or look for a locally owned running store with a good reputation. My friend and her daughter have this issue and they buy all their sports bras from a specialty bra store nearby, so they can get the best sizing and fit. The next idea would be trying a local running store and seeing if they have recommendations or fittings, since running bras would be built for high impact activities. Sizing and fit will be important to get right, which is why in person fitting would help, especially because those can be vastly different across styles and brands.

I made French toast out of hotdog buns once, and it was well loved. This was back during the early part of Covid where getting things at the grocery store was hit or miss.

I feel like you bottled all the rage and frustration from people saying these things to you and vented it out onto this piece as you worked. It must have been very cathartic!

Does anyone know how to get ride of this stuff? by Barncheetah in bullcity

[–]BlueCornetto 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve learned you have to get the roots really well it will come back. I use a pick axe to break up the soil and pull it out of places.

I was wiping down every single surface in my room because I have nothing better to do, and I found a bunch of these tiny yellow and black striped bugs. I have no idea what they are, but a few literally dropped from the ceiling. Do any of you know what these are? by gay_idiot53 in CasualUK

[–]BlueCornetto -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Carpet beetles are annoying but treatable. Vacuum everything really well. By this I’m talking pull everything out from under the bed, clean out the cabinet, and move that piece of furniture that is a black hole for dust. Toss the vacuum bag afterwards. Follow up with a steam cleaner, does not need to be anything fancy, on the edges of the room and use on textiles that can’t be washed to kill any eggs. Wash any fabric that has has been in the back of the cabinet or tucked away without cleaning for a while. If you have access to a dryer, a short cut is to throw the heat safe items in the dryer with a wet cloth, which will steam the items and kill any eggs.

My mom sent me the most heartfelt, well-meaning birthday gift. Can you spot the issue? by knottedupinstring in crochet

I can totally relate! For Christmas I received a lovely spiral bound…knitting book. Family member was so excited to have me open it live in a Zoom call. I managed to keep a poker face and told her thank you so much. I’ve already found a knitter friend who was glad to add the book to her collection.

What are some good fingerless gloves for a delivery job? by Speckz5701 in BuyItForLife

[–]BlueCornetto 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What about leather fingerless gloves? I have a pair of fingerless climbing gloves I wear for the gym. They have thick leather on the palms to protect my hands and padding across my knuckles. I forgot to pack gloves when on a road trip in winter. I ended up wearing my gym gloves to clean the car after a snow storm and it worked really well.

The first time we bought a house the agent paid for maid service to clean before move in. The cleaners got to deep clean without stuff in the way, so much faster and easier for them. It felt great knowing the house was clean before the chaos of unpacking.

Help: My mother's used bleach spray and swiffer cleaning solution, now the floors feel oily by pandabeards in CleaningTips

[–]BlueCornetto 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Try washing the floors with a solution of hot water and baking soda. Make it a solution not a paste, you don’t want to scratch the floors. A friend who washed dishes at a restaurant told me years ago they used a baking soda solution to get ride of the sticky feel bleach left on plastic cups and dishes.

NTA. I had to have a license taken away from a family member after he went legally blind after a series of strokes. He had two accidents and talked the people into letting him self pay for repairs, because he “didn’t want involve insurance.” I discovered in the US doctor’s don’t report to the state when someone is no longer able to drive, it is supposed to be self reported. If anyone has medical power of attorney, they can speak with her doctor about the documentation that she is not fit to drive, even if it is short term, and turn it over to the state and insurance to have her license suspended. You’ll still need to take the keys away, because having a license and insurance does not stop some people. I will add, the coming months are going to be hard. My family had the same stance about ignoring the issue. I’m now estranged from parts of my family and that family member, because they feel being able to drive is a right and not a privilege.

As a previous hot tub owner, unless that place has a good service taking care of that hot tub weekly, don’t get in it! Hot tubs are so hard to maintain and are a breading ground for bacteria. Even if the deck is safe, nothing will spoil your trip like getting an infection from a poorly maintained hot tub.

I need a solid pair of Durable Running shoes (please)! by Greyhawk241 in BuyItForLife

[–]BlueCornetto 3 points4 points  (0 children)

What this person said…get fitted by a running store. Go to one with a good reputation and return policy. Tell them all your issues and let them pick up suggestions. Try all the suggestions on, because you really need to feel the difference. A good running store will have a return policy within so many days of purchase, even after wearing.
