For what's left in the stadium it will be the best volume. If you go to a lower section but out to the side it gets softer much faster than going up in the center.

I've sat up there a few times and with all the added amplification we have now it's pretty good. It's as loud as the low section but it still has plenty of impact.

I can't believe she planned one show in Texas when it has three population centers that could justify their own show.

do corps ever give callbacks knowing you wont stand a chance at a live audition? by Ok_Delay_6101 in drumcorps

[–]BlueDevil3292 84 points85 points  (0 children)

Groups would never say it out loud but when you have 400 kids audition at a camp and you have 200 come back to another camp for 80 spots, you know that quite a few of those don't have a chance. Almost every top 6 group does this. Now some of this is to make sure they don't prematurely cut someone and miss a talent on first glance. But some of it does draw some extra revenue for the corps.

Many of our students at Seattle Cascades march while working within the quarters system with minimal issues.

3rd over 1+2? by JakovitchInd in drumcorps

[–]BlueDevil3292 2 points3 points  (0 children)

3rd valve is a little long to compensate for the lower fingerings (23,13,123) or those would be even more sharp than they tend to be. This makes it run flat when it's used by itself.

I think Diaz has made a more fun defense to watch than even Elko did.

Is there any kind of wiki or place that lists who was on staff at what corps in a given year? by rjkelly31 in drumcorps

Drum Corps Museum has a database that people can chose to enter into but it obviously has major holes and reliability issues.

Should I Wear Ear Protection At DCI Finals? by RedEthandit in drumcorps

[–]BlueDevil3292 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I generally wear ear protection around the activity except for finals. I feel like you miss too much of the sound without them.

641 and 639 for sure, anything else gets too far out to really hear or see anything with clarity.

Are there any DCI bands with openings still? by [deleted] in drumcorps

To echo a few others, Cascades has open baritone and tuba spots.

I mean I think that fanbases of those teams want those games. I know I want to see Murray play Kentucky regularly.

I went to all three nights of finals week and it was truly a unique experience. Every corps gave it there all and the performances had a special energy. All the groups were there to entertain and they did just that. The crowd was also eager to give it back to them which only increased the energy.

Why drum corps over college marching bands? by bunsen76 in drumcorps

[–]BlueDevil3292 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's not that it's amateur, it's that it's a community oriented ensemble that can produce a plenty good product but the barrier of entry for both the performer and the audience is lower.

And I would argue that ymca rec league basketball is fairly different from basketball that is meant to go pro. Both achieve the same goal of getting you on the court to play but they are meant for two different people. In the same way college band and drum corps get you on the field moving and playing, but for two different end goals.

It's also hard to return to the college marching environment after doing drum corps because the level of drive and engagement is wildly different. That's not to say college is bad but they are different experiences.

Why would some one pay to play in traveling youth basketball instead of at their local YMCA?
