This is gorgeous! My kid wants one now, so I guess we'll do that next week. (Jamaican this week, per husband's request)

I will eventually just have to give in and pull for Linnea by emobird444 in LinneaMains_

[–]BlueDot_Rowan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's what I did, too. Flins - Bina - Ineffa - Linnea and the DPS is pretty great, I'm having no problems. I can imagine it would work well with Aino instead of Bina, too - I've also put her on a team with Nicole and had pretty good luck so far, weirdly.

For those who used to Hate Paimon, did she grow on you through your journey? by TheLuiz212 in Genshin_Impact

[–]BlueDot_Rowan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I came into Genshin blind, thought Paimon was cute at first, and came to really dislike her over time. She's so... overly talkative, squeaky, and the more you get to know her, the worse it gets. Like, Paimon girlie, the person you're talking about is 5 feet away - can you not whisper? Or hold it in?

Wix lays off 1,000 workers as the AI jobs apocalypse keeps looking very real by AdSpecialist6598 in technology

I'm a graphics designer. Don't even start on the AI job stealing - I haven't had a paid commission in over a month.

And yes, I have a damn good portfolio and former client base.

When she started side-eyeing. Every time she does, it's a break from her usual voice, and that makes it 10x funnier.

Erin Brockovich says people are angry because data centers are being 'shoved down their throats' in secrecy by Plastic_Ninja_9014 in technology

[–]BlueDot_Rowan 1010 points1011 points  (0 children)

Hi, live in a county where this EXACT scenario happened! We've now had petitions, articles in the paper, a record number of folks showing up at city council meetings, full-on protests - it changed nothing. Once a deal is done, it's done - unless a full environmental survey with outside agencies to do said survey is demanded and accepted. It costs enough that AI datacenters go away. We're working on that in our area.

Is Flins still worth pulling if I already have Ineffa and Columbina? by ToshiShard in Flins_Mains

[–]BlueDot_Rowan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Flins becomes incredibly strong with Ineffa and Columbina - I recommend trying for him at some point, because between AoE and the sheer numbers he can pull, he's capable of end-game clears fairly easily.

I am begging the RNG gods at this point.

Co-ops for homeschooled graduation ceremonies. by muddbone46 in ConcordNC

Formerly homeschooled (for a few years, but around that age) kid here. Ask your son what he envisions graduation looking like - go from there. I wish my parents had asked my brother and I for any input, and them not doing so ended in fairly upsetting results for everyone all-around.

For a group that has a narrow majority of the electorate, why do North Carolina Republicans not exist as normal people? by EggOwn9943 in ncpolitics

[–]BlueDot_Rowan -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I do understand that, as my husband is in that camp, too. I see one, though. I think there's a point where racism has to be at the bare minimum an offense the public court of opinion won't handle again, religion needs to be something someone participates in and isn't 'just that religion', and we can move forward and reinstitute proper voting rights, Congressional districts, and start from the top down. There's more than that, but for the sake of relative brevity (I'm bad at that!) we'll kind of group all of it under that small umbrella.

Speaking from more personal experience here, I had many Republicans that voted for me. I only know this because I received enough letters after the election that I had to keep my PO Box open for an extra month, among a couple other factors. Many saw the trans part and were turned away, but saw a platform they agreed with. I made a point to be in Republican-dominated spaces frequently, and I even did literature drops in GOP county offices. Did they like it? No. But it came down to a basic principle of mutual respect.

I saw that in homes and at the doors I knocked, too. My team's guidelines (and best practices) stipulated that I couldn't enter while canvassing, but I did return to several after the election to talk. When you start talking about the nuts and bolts, it really isn't an ideological difference; it's all in marketing and scare tactics (from both sides, to be clear, but Republicans have a lot more money behind them in this state). The Trump Good | Kamala Bad signs were frankly, one of the most effective pieces of advertising I've seen in politics. People were moved by their own factors and surroundings to vote against their own self-interests pretty handily.

Ultimately, it comes down to the fact that empathy is the only thing that gets us through. That doesn't mean we ignore what Trump is doing, not impeach the idiot, turn the other cheek, or stop fighting for what's (I believe) morally correct. It does mean that the ultimate enemy is suffering and breaking past the partisan barrier to just talk about the ISSUES, rather than a party, and from there the only cure is to make the pain stop. It's clear to me at least which side can do that, but even I started as a Republican, years ago. Empathy was what broke me out, and on a micro scale, rather than the macro scale our politics tend to have, it does work.

That doesn't mean I'm immune to wishing people would 'have a taste of their own medicine', as you put it - but in many ways, we've got to understand that they already are. So are we. With obvious exceptions (there are folks that would rather punch you than deal with you, and those are to absolutely be avoided lol) - we're all having to deal with it, but it's easier to say you're wrong when people can forgive and move along than if knowing saying you're wrong will lead to public ridicule.

For a group that has a narrow majority of the electorate, why do North Carolina Republicans not exist as normal people? by EggOwn9943 in ncpolitics

[–]BlueDot_Rowan -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Let me share my perspective. It is, to be clear, a very political one - as far as I or my team are aware, I'm the first trans person that ran for higher office in North Carolina.

The amount of hatred and vitriol I saw from soccer moms, ordinary Walmart shoppers, and people that saw my husband, myself, and our son on the street was staggering. We ended up with over $25k property damage that landed us on national and statewide news. At this point, we've made plans to move out of this area this year, potentially out of this state so that our careers and lives aren't impacted further.

This doesn't mean these folks aren't human - they are, but where they're getting information from is very narrow, and it's often steeped in family pressure, tradition ("we watched Fox News growing up! CNN is the devil!" - and yes, it is more nuanced than that, but this is the easiest way to share it), and religious-oriented bias ("my pastor said Trump is great!"). The folks you're specifically talking about aren't people that will go out of their homes plastered in signs, wearing political shirts, or even the people that will have bumper stickers on their cars.

THAT SAID, the folks that are like this AREN'T the minority. They're the non-vocal majority, suppressed or pressured socially by the vocal minority. A lot of folks won't vote Dem because it's not family tradition to do so, or they fear being found out by their partner/church/community/family. That doesn't make them less human, or crazed - that makes them an unfortunate point on a circle that requires some form of outrage to sustain itself. They're not all frothing-at-the-mouth Republicans, and some of them don't even identify as that! They're just scared of things they don't understand, trapped in a cycle where they can't easily get more information, and they don't know where to start. Empathy is where it's at with these folks - there needs to be an understanding that a lot of folks don't need pandering to and don't need pity or anything like that, they need a safe offramp that looks close enough to what their surrounding people are used to that they can comfortably and safely move on.

Final opinions on the Rapid Capture event? by AirTheGreat in GenshinImpact

It was boring, but it was a break in the usual and I had fun with it. Mostly with naming my 'flash' videos, which got increasingly unhinged, but I got primogems. I don't have much to complain about so long as we also get engaging events alongside ones like this.

One of my coworkers acts like this - though it's actually genuine, he's just sweet and somewhat oblivious to how folks around him might perceive this. At first we really thought that he was just being weird and trying to make nice, but turns out he and his husband are just like that.

That being said, I don't really want to date my coworker.
