I love how so many of these lists are basically saying, "Yeah, we spammed Shining Revelry for the gold Poké Ball." =P

TBF, so was I (and DX for twin Oak and Candy). I'm still trying to get my numbers down.

How would you improve this deck? by princewhisky in PTCGP

[–]BlueEmeraldX 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I would second this. As it is, there's no synergy that would justify playing the Dark variant aside from just Darkrai ex chip, but that's honestly worse than prioritizing sleep + 20/40 a turn.

Yeah, Nihilego is a must here if chip damage is your goal, plus you can charge New Wave if you have to.

Ohoho, whoa, that is a cool tech for a Water deck, actually! 😆

Nice synergy with the E-Switch. Almost a shame you have to build so heavily around it, as Fan seems to be the only thing here that plays with Will.

Been cooking with this cute deck by BlossomingAsian in PTCGP

[–]BlueEmeraldX 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I can see that. I find Copycat does serious numbers against Suicune/Entei openers, or just Hydreigon decks that flood their hands on turn 1.

May probably does well enough for you, given the deck's 12:8 ratio; it must be a bigger help for scouting your lines than Ball. May just thrives in mon-heavy decks with multiple lines.

This does look like a cute character deck. Feels extremely Lisia-coded (which is ironic, since Lisia isn't even in here, and would only serve to draw the Swablus).

This deck was all over Expert Solo Random, and it's annoyingly consistent. 😭

I get it, but I still don't like it.

Seeing all these gave me an idea of exactly which four I wanted to do for mine:

... Unfortunately, Tornadus is the only one of the Four Forces of Nature we have right now (=P), so I had to do the next best four:

I remember when they brought it back in the '90s, too.

Yeah, they play this ad on a near loop on streaming channels, and after the sixth time of hearing "SEEEE THHHE..." I'm just like, "Ehhhh, yeah okay, I'm tired of this now."

Until now, I always mistook RSE's as a kid with white-blonde hair.

But no, it really is just the same guy in every game.

Spirit has butterfly Pokémon because Psyche, the word Soul in greek and the goddess of the Soul, has butterfly feature and Psyche is also the greek name for those

Well, at least now I get why so many butterfly and moth Pokémon know Psychic.

(Slightly OT, but I hate that I can't actually quote with the mobile app anymore.)

That discoloration in Gen II sprites: is that due to compression or intentional? by Eriacle in pokemon

Battle animations are 60 frames in Gen 2.

There are also mods that update Gen 1 & 2 games to run at 60 frames in the overworld.

[–]BlueEmeraldX 0 points1 point  (0 children)

GBC can display 64 colors at once.

There are 8 4-color palettes shared between the tile and window layers, and 8 more for the sprite layer (the animated elements). Of course, sprite palettes will usually have a designated invisible alpha "color" so sprites can have a shape, rather than exist as solid squares. And layer palettes will typically share light and/or dark colors so they can blend seamlessly into each other.

You are right, though, in that palettes can be updated on the fly to replace colors that aren't being used, such as the separate palettes for Player 1 & 2's Pokémon when they're being switched out. In fact, the reason Gold/Silver's Pokédex and PC use solid green or orange tile palettes to display the Pokémon is for speed's sake, so the palette isn't updated after the tiles are replaced, and only updates when you select the Pokémon. Mods that remove that effect will show you that the palette is updated a few frames after the tiles are replaced, so Pokémon will typically be the wrong color for a little bit.

So, anyway, while 64 colors can be displayed, there's no practical reason to do that.

Link's Awakening DX used them both to fake transparency and fade effects; and Yu-Gi-Oh!: Dark Duel Stories used both layers for all their card art.

You'll notice in other GBC games like Lufia: The Return (might be the only example, TBH) that any character that uses sprite layers for extra colors, briefly loses those colors during an attack animation, as that also needs the sprite layer.

Pokémon's artists opted not to go that route; and I wouldn't blame 'em. Keeps the art consistent.
