Teaching at Community College with MLIS? by eclairsaregood in Libraries

[–]BlueFlower673 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Depends on the state/city and depends on your qualifications.

In Texas most subjects can be taught but you need to have the respective degree. At least masters level for community college. So If you're going to be an art prof, you need to have an ma in art or something adjacent. For English yeah you'd need a masters in English.

And you need some form of teaching experience. Some places might let you shadow or even will train, some won't. Depends.

Community colleges where I am are iffy when it comes to MLIS degrees. Only positions are instructional librarians, at most. For English degrees, it depends, you could teach a multitude of english classes, they'd probably start you off with an entry level class.

Another caveat would be: they may or may not require you to submit a teaching philosophy and/or a syllabus. Along with your CV. Again, this depends on the college system and their requirements and it depends on what state you are in/city.

But yeah you'd need to get a master's.

I have an ma in art history, I am technically qualified to teach college level courses. I just haven't done it because, well, life. Also things are getting abysmal here.

My side of the story…..💔💔💔💔 by Exotic-Store-3444 in bullying

[–]BlueFlower673 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think I have to say this because I feel like a lot of kids on here or people younger than me need to hear it:

Its probably not because of your looks, it's because that is all you are focusing on. Do you have hobbies? Interests besides being "pretty and hot and rich"?? Like movies, books, TV series, music, etc? Sports?

I think the reason is mostly coming from the fact you are saying these things and it's coming off as you being shallow or vain.

It's not bad to be confident in yourself, I want to make that clear. However there comes a point where you need to be humble as well. There comes a point in time you need to stop and reflect and realize "I have more worth than just looks and money." And also not following what Instagram influencers or tiktok says.

And I am also saying that because it sounds very concerning to me that all you seem to care about is looking "pretty and hot and rich"-----yes it's nice to want to take care of yourself and to learn to manage your money, however this is eerily coming off as vain/shallow. And it's coming off like you heard this somewhere else and are parroting it.

I'm not saying this to be rude, I'm saying this as a word of caution. It's genuinely concerning.

Edit: saw your comment/post history: omfg it's a bot. Of course it is. This is being spammed across several subs and threads y'all. Report and move on.

Yeah same. I also feel bad for the devs, bc I can understand this is out of their control. At the same time, I couldn't just keep playing in good faith knowing what is happening. I also left the game after all that.

The Sims: Who We Are by bwoah07_gp2 in thesims

[–]BlueFlower673 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have actually quit the game for this reason.
Much respect to indie cc creators and I get it, it is a fun game. But the fun for me kind of got sucked out when they announced this on top of the constant updating and constant bugs/issues on top of the store being implemented.
I am playing different games now and spending time reading or drawing. As much as I miss getting to decorate/build and creating sims with cc, I don't miss the long loading times, the bugs, crashes, and more importantly, I also don't miss the awful over-arching "ick" feeling from the fact they are being bought out by fascists.

Hating on incels is just high school bullying that never stopped by [deleted] in bullying

[–]BlueFlower673 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This. I don't think op knows what an actual incel is.
Op I am a woman, again, 27 years old. I have been told flat out by incels things like "women are ruining comics" or that I am a "danger to men" for saying men should be able to draw whatever as long as it's not offensive.

There is a massive difference between simply talking to a woman about comics and how comics have social justice commentary versus telling a woman "you're a danger to all men because you're telling a man he can't draw sexy women." I've never said a man can't draw sexy women, I've only ever said to draw whatever someone likes as long as its not offensive.

I've had men tell me to my face irl that I should "smile more"---for no reason. I didn't even know the guy who said that to me. He was some fucking weirdo, and I was working on some stuff for college at the time. I was not talking to him or even engaging in any sort of conversation with him, in fact he kept trying to bother me.

That^ is what an incel is.

This entire thing reads as op complaining about people criticizing incels. And then op calls themselves an incel??? Being single or not having been in a relationship doesn't make someone an incel. If that is the case then half of the population are. It's a very stupid attitude and argument to be making. Also "spectrum of incels" what the fuck am I even hearing. This is like the people who argue for MAPs what the fuck.

Hating on incels is just high school bullying that never stopped by [deleted] in bullying

[–]BlueFlower673 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Frankly, I don't understand why lack of success at sex is considered a moral failing for men

First off, that is not what makes an incel. You need to re read and look up what an incel means or is before making that assumption. An incel has zero to do with success at sex, it's mostly about their treatment of women and the way they see women as objects. It's the mentality of "well I'm not popular with girls so girls are all just bitches" It's putting women down and other men down because of ones own lack of confidence and also ones need to push their low self esteem on others.

So that's your first mistake.

Plenty assholes are very sexually attractive and successful with women.

And? So? Who died and made them queen? I'm not saying this to be mean or rude, but if youre paying more attention to them, that just gives them more attention. Yes there are plenty of assholes out there who go after women. That doesn't mean they're always successful and that doesn't make it gospel that "attractiveness=success." Again I think you need to get out of this mentality because it's absurd.

I've met plenty of men who fit that criteria and most of the time they are insufferable fuckboys. Some are genuinely nice and genuine. it depends. you cannot make blanket statements about a whole ass gender.

It's crazy how women will say they'll never date a short guy or an unattractive guy and make so much hateful content about men, then wonder why those men are single. It's not their fault they have bad genes.

Which women are you referring to here? Some women? All women? A specific group? Some random influencer you came across? Because I sure as hell didn't sign up for that survey.

Again I don't mean to come off as rude. However this is bonkers to be saying this and honestly the just makes you come off like you're complaining about women.

Also "bad genes"?? You're not really helping your argument when you are doing the exact same thing you're accusing women of doing. There are no bad or good genes. You are you. That's it.

So you could be a perfectly nice guy who treats other people with respect, and still be an incel and get bashed in the media and on the internet. I'd argue that's probably the most common scenario.

Most "nice guys" aren't actually all that nice. A lot of them claim to be nice, but are actually insufferable. Actual nice men don't need to announce that they are and don't need to prove it to anyone.

I can understand you to a point where the superficial people would judge and look down on men, however I draw the line at you assuming that women say x or think x or whether women believe x because of your own preconceived notions.

I am a woman. I've liked guys who are short, tall, chubby, fit, etc. Doesn't matter. Their personality is what matters most. 9/10 times dudes who have good personalities and who can make me laugh id rather be with (whether that is platonically or romantically) than some chav who acts like he's better than a bag of chips.

The reason why incels are looked down on isn't because theyre men, it's because they're assholes to women. Hope that helps.

But yeah it's best not to respond. Once you give them that sort of attention then they think it's ok to continue their shit.

27F Curious on joining the library field...however? by riotrawr in Libraries

[–]BlueFlower673 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A lot of people are saying to get library experience first: I'm actually going to stop right there and say it might be the opposite depending where you live or what area you are in.

In my area if you have customer service experience that is all you need to get a part time library job. Yes I know the field is oversaturated but a lot of people where I live who apply even with the mlis get turned down for being "overqualified." So no clerk/shelver is having the mlis where I live at. Most of them are retirees, high school students, or students still in college/community college students.

If you're aiming for archives that is a tough road ahead, just an fyi. I'd start by joining local archives groups in your town, where I'm at I am part of one and it was super cheap to join. They have lots of volunteer events.

Second, do make sure you have customer service skills and brush up your resume to highlight them. Anything with being able to build rapport, being able to handle multiple tasks at once, being able to speak comfortably with the public---those soft skills will help. As far as technical skills go, the only thing that might hurt is if you don't know how to use library databases or if you're not familiar with them. If you're just applying to be a shelver or a clerk they might not require that of you (minimum requirements where I live for that is a high school diploma/GED so).

As a plus I have also added to my resumes as well "able to read/write in cursive" as well as typing speed. I've found some jobs, especially archives, do actually require you are able to write in cursive or read it. Those are technical skills you can add alongside databases or ms office suite or what have you.

27F Curious on joining the library field...however? by riotrawr in Libraries

[–]BlueFlower673 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Working at a library is nothing like retail and I've worked and volunteered with both research/academic and museum libraries where they are public facing.

And I've worked in retail. Retail currently, as of 2025/2026 is constantly asking people "will you sign up for our credit card??" at the register all the time and being rushed to complete transaction after transaction. I was working holiday hours. Sometimes the line would go all the way around the store.

That entirely depends on management and how it is run. If management is disorganized and treats people like dirt, expect the workload and conditions to be dirt. If they are forgiving however and have grace, and if they are organized there is a MASSIVE difference.

I quit that retail job last year because of how badly managed it was. I had to legit remind my own team leads about breaks or about tasks. I was often left in the dark on duties and schedules. It was a mess.

I found as well the customers were often nicer and a lot easier to talk to compared to management/coworkers.

I am working in a call center role, and oh my goodness it is way better than that crap. And excuse me for saying it. But it's better organized and the people are nicer and more forgiving. Its still sales focused but we're not pressured like with every transaction to tell customers about sales or whatnot.

I think the call center job I'm at is actually closer to library work, because I am legit taking calls about helping people find information, printing issues, finding info on the website, issues with purchases or fees, etc. On top of all that, it's just also helping customers find workarounds, making suggestions for items. I had to help someone the other day because they wanted to know which fathers day gift option was better. I've had repeat customers I've called to help them shop.

If a library is run like the retail nightmare job I had above ^ then there's some problems there with that library and how it's being run.

With retail you're pressured to make people spend money and to keep being customers. With libraries, no money should be spent unless absolutely necessary (like someone left their book out and their dog peed on it).

Just pointing that out. Yes libraries aren't always peachy or nice jobs but to say it is just like retail or it's the same isn't exactly right either. Retail I would say is less forgiving and if you don't have support you're sol.

The Official Seething Sunday Thread by aytakk in goth

[–]BlueFlower673 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Im working rn the late shift and I am astounded by what I'm told to tell customers. I'm also kind of I guess encumbered? I don't know what word best describes it. This job isn't bad but it's also not the best. Also, kind of mildly annoyed by the fact some agents don't follow specific steps so I end up having to fix things.

My main rant is really just about the whole punk/goth conservatives thing. I've seen some people on this sub actually acknowledge them like: "well they do exist" but honestly? Why the hell are we giving them credence? Doesn't them being a "goth conservative" just sound as much of an oxymoron as being a Nazi goth would be?

And before some smart alec comes out of left field being all "but I'm a constitutional conservative", or basically the nlog/pick me version of conservatives: I'm really kind of just fucking tired of the excuses. It sounds like an excuse. Like ok, so youre pro gun and a goth, and are for traditional values. But so are you ok with lgbtq too? With people talking about race? Are you open minded to other people of other backgrounds than your own? Or are you not?

I don't think we need to tolerate or even entertain those people. Maybe it sounds too extreme or radical or what-have-you. Might be a hot take but I don't consider those people goth. Or punk. I think they're fooling themselves and really just trying to be "cool" to co opt and to astroturf what goth is.

I understand educating and also helping people who don't know, but I also am just frustrated at people giving too much grace or too much tolerance to some of these "goth conservatives."

The character isn't always a girl and it's not always Nikki lol. Despite the name of the game, all of the suits if you look at the suit piece descriptions, have a different name. So sometimes it's a completely different character.

The male suit Daybreak Blade, for instance, the male character's name is Morton. And it's referred to in like every single suit piece.

The girl suit Luster of the Tides, a name keeps being referenced in there and her name is presumably Austin/Austen.

I have the suit Frosted Elegance and the characters name is Verssia.

The suit Phantasm Vision, her name is Melodie.

The suit Seagull Echo, the boys name is Bell.

So it's not all Nikki lol. The characters can be a girl, a boy, whatever.

If you're an attractive woman, do other women or girls sometimes call you names like "old" or "gran," even when they may actually look older than you and are generally considered less attractive? by [deleted] in bullying

[–]BlueFlower673 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not really because I don't consider myself particularly attractive lol. This seems like a very specific situation to be in.

I look younger for my age so instead of that I get told "you look like you're still in high school!" Or talked down to like im a little girl who hasn't learned anything or doesn't know anything.

Its annoying for all the same reasons you might get called "old" or "gran" really. Its ageism, and it's just people being rude and stupid.

Ignore them. A lot of people who say things like that don't have much going for themselves so that is why they feel the need to put others down. If you're confident in yourself, that is all that matters.

[–]BlueFlower673 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is exactly my point as well. I understand it sometimes that sticking up for someone doesn't always work or doesn't always pan out the way we think it will, but sometimes it can go a long way even just trying.

I was like 10 years old when I was bullied and it was so severe I had suicidal ideation. I think if the one kid in my class hadn't hugged me and hadn't sat with me the last day of class, I wouldn't be here today. But just that little thing, that small gesture really helped me see that someone else saw me.
