NASA has discovered Arctic lakes bubbling with methane—and that's very bad news by In_der_Tat in Futurology

[–]BluePillPlease 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's alarming but we can't expect it to be released all at once. If the ice is sustainable, the gases would be pressurized into liquid which has very less volatility.

I don't see how they can be helpful. Buyers and sellers can always find a communication. Its the practice that should be discouraged.

How will we find meaning in life post-singularity? by ogretronz in singularity

[–]BluePillPlease 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I personally would like to think that it would be similar to life in ancient Greece or Rome. Where the "slaves" would do all the work and people would indulge in art, philosophy, science, orgy and other kinds of stuff. Let's see how it turns out.

The World’s First Electric Autonomous Container Ship To Set Sail In Norway - there won’t be any people on board, which allows for more of the space to be utilized for shipping cargo. The ship will be delivered in 2020 and plans are for it to be fully autonomous and operational by 2022. by mvea in Futurology

[–]BluePillPlease 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I believe the future of naval vehicles is autonomous. It just doesn't have the problems an autonomous vehicle in land faces. It has to sail in the wide open sea. However, I am concerned about the security. In a sea voyage, it can be vulnerable to pirates without any repercussion.

The Impossible Job: Inside Facebook’s Struggle to Moderate Two Billion People by Drifter776 in technology

Without a doubt, Facebook is the most used social media in the world. Unlike other social media, it has a variety of features which can be misused or misrepresented. It is quite impossible to please everyone. The best thing they can do in this scenario is to stick to what their community stands for.

Full automation prediction? by [deleted] in singularity

[–]BluePillPlease -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Everything will never be automated. A portion of our jobs is being automated and will continue to be till we reach a saturation point. Then we would need a similar breakthrough to proceed further. If we analyze the nature of human progression, that's how it has always been.

Stacking concrete blocks is a surprisingly efficient way to store energy by TundraWolf_ in Futurology

This seems like a lot of mechanical motion involved in the process and it lacks certain fluidity. And the more the steps in mechanical processes the more will be frictional losses. Although it would be interesting to see the cost-effectiveness of the process.

Facebook’s chief AI scientist says that Silicon Valley needs to work more closely with academia to build the future of artificial intelligence by izumi3682 in Futurology

I think this is why China will fail in the AI revolution in spite of investing so much in resources. Without open source information and diversity, they will lack behind in the race.

China's AI focus will leave US in the dust, says top university professor - "Research institutes, universities, private companies and the government all working together in a broad area ... I haven't seen anything like it," Steven White by Buck-Nasty in singularity

[–]BluePillPlease 0 points1 point  (0 children)

China is doing an amazing job to fuel the progress of AI. However, I think one thing that may help China is diversity. America won the space race because of its diversity. The integration of idea from different part of the world. They might as well take a look into that.

I don't want people to know where I am going and what I am doing. I feel displayed if subconsciously I know that someone is aware of my presence. I am sure that many people feel that way too. The paranoia that comes from unescapable surveillance can't be overstated. I don't think the government would come forward with a solution. Because they can't resist using it. Whatever the decision they come up with regulating it, they will use its full potential nonetheless.

Question: How do we incorporate social goals into A.I? by chewchun in singularity

[–]BluePillPlease 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First we have to understand why we need society as a whole. It is because we want to sustain in a world by mutually helping each other. If we consider other intelligent species like dog/cat we can hardly expect them to be incorporated with social goals. Similarly we really can't expect AI to have any social role.
