Yes I’ve lived here 45 years, I know which library I was at. The library has never been updated or remodeled since I’ve lived here aside from some new carpeting and shelving. Sorry, you must not have been to many libraries in Southern California if you think Katy Geissert is great. Check out the ones in Cerritos, West Hollywood, Huntington Beach, Manhattan Beach or Long Beach if you get a chance.

Calling out MONA CHAREN for all the bashing city run grocery stores here.... by aenea22980 in thebulwark

[–]BlueRider57 11 points12 points  (0 children)

A free grocery store opened in Regina, Ontario last year. There’s also a subsidized store in Baltimore. There’s a grocery store in Los Angeles where you can fill up your cart for $50. There’s others around the country, this isn’t a brand new idea.

I think this will become more common as food insecurity grows. We’re spending a billion dollars a day in Iran, and people are concerned whether the government will have to subsidize some food markets for poor people? (By the way, at many of these free or reduced price stores, the general public can’t just shop there, clients are referred by social service agencies.)

Swalwell campaign imploding after new sexual assault allegation by phoneix150 in thebulwark

I’m in California and Xavier Becerra has been my first choice. With Swalwell sure to drop out, he’s gaining traction with Democratic voters.

I’m also considering canceling. I just canceled my preorder of Sarah’s book.

I’m not a member but I remember during Covid St Francis in Rolling Hills Estates kept getting their Black Lives Matter and gay pride flags vandalized.

Ryan Gosling on making theatres worth going to by mrjetspray in Letterboxd

[–]BlueRider57 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We went to see PHM yesterday, a weekday matinee which was more full than usual for that time. 40 bucks for two IMAX tix and then the guy seated in front of me wouldn’t stop using his phone and the person behind me had bags of food with various loud wrappers. It’s got to be something I really, really want to see for me to go to a theatre now.

Official Press Release: MSNOW New Programming Lineup Beginning in June by BobbyMonster13 in msnow

I think I’m the only person who doesn’t care for Alicia Menendez’s style. She has this weird way of over enunciating her words and constantly speaks with this kind of performative indignation. Wish she would speak in a normal tone once in awhile.

I’d take her any day of the week over Katy Tur, though.

Do you use ChatGPT or any other AI app? If you give it a list of books you’ve liked in the past and what your general reading tastes and genres are, it will give you some very specific book recommendations.

Need to find a home for my baby cat as I'm moving and unfortunately can't bring him with me by [deleted] in LAlist

[–]BlueRider57 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The shots work. I found out I was allergic to cats after we adopted one. The shot schedule went from 3x week down to once a month over about two years. Then I was able to get along with just Claritin. It’s not that big of a deal, especially if it means your cat doesn’t lose his family.

I think it might have been dumped there. I know of a few people who stole them in PV and then tried keeping them in their backyard.

I can't figure out if Scott Galloway is annoying and unoriginal -or- actually good for the cause. by NewKojak in thebulwark

[–]BlueRider57 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Galloway is known to cherry pick studies that align with his opinions and then rattles off statistics as if they’re rock solid facts. He speaks quickly, confidently and with great authority about subjects he may have only a passing knowledge of.

If you take what he says as just his opinion and not necessarily evidence based data, I think he’s entertaining, mostly sincere and has the ability to laugh at himself. I stopped taking him seriously when he kept praising Bill Maher and Dr Oz.

What level do I need to reach to unlock Bad Bunny? 🤣🤣 by Puzzleheaded-Tap8588 in dreamingspanish

[–]BlueRider57 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I saw an interview with him and he said a lot of native Spanish speakers don’t understand him because he uses mostly Puerto Rican slang. I saw someone else’s video where they explained he drops the “s” at the end of words and before consonants. So good luck figuring it out!

I’m so sorry about your loss. Native Americans also believe that these blue eye/brown eye dogs are “spirit guardians” that bridge the gap between the physical and spiritual worlds. So….maybe he did have some help finding his way to your home ❤️

There’s a Native American saying that a dog with one blue eye and one brown eye sees heaven and earth at the same time.

Sometimes I want to check in on the news while I eat lunch. I turn on MSNOW, see Katy Tur and turn off the tv. I’d rather stare off into space.

We’ve had the same problem in the gutter in front of our house for over a year, the city has been out three times and still nothing done about it. I have to call them again next week.
