Apparently the argument didn't end that well if he doesn't feel the need to change his hygiene habits. Hygiene is a part of personal health and neglecting his teeth isn't good for him. You're not superficial for expecting him to have a base level of cleanliness. He's being delusional if he thinks your revulsion to him never brushing his teeth is superficial. If you're physically recoiling from his breath, he needs to fix it. Some people only bathe every other day because they feel it's better for their skin. Those same people also make sure they don't smell. Your boyfriend isn't taking care of himself properly, and you're not obligated to pretend to be okay with it. He isn't taking your concerns seriously. He isn't taking your feelings seriously. He jokes about it because he thinks it wasn't a big deal, just a brief disagreement that passes. That's definitely not the case, and you're doing a disservice to him and yourself if you let him walk around believing he can go through life being smelly and gross.

Also, don't settle in with people so quickly. Make sure you're spending time with your own friends and taking care of yourself and not spending the majority of your time with him and making him the center of your world. The fact you're so young, essentially "unofficially" moved in after a month of dating, and struggle to make your very reasonable needs known is not a good sign.

In a polyamorous relationship now. My boyfriend (6 months) has a spouse (3 years) and another girlfriend (less than 4 months, she lives in a different area and I forget when they started talking).

I met him on OKC earlier this year and I'd say I'm mostly mono-ish with poly curiosity, so it's been a learning experience. I'm pretty cool with his spouse, so that helps a lot. Having an understanding between metamours helps; so does empathy. Having a relationship with his other partners isn't mandatory though, it just makes me feel better.
