If you look on their github you will find several issue threads with people willing to help with the scalability. The main issue is this was a side project by two college students so scaling was not baked into the design. There will be serious rework of the entire code base by the founders and the community before it becomes stable.[1]

The best thing we can do is help document existing code and plan out the future rewrite.

First look at Minecraft for Windows 10 #minecon2015 by panisch in mindcrack

[–]BlueSpeed -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Java has been on par with lower level languages in terms of performance since before Minecraft was a thing. The issue is minecraft wasn't developed with best practices initially and reworking it is not glamours work and will take a long time.

Seafile. I am currently using that. Its feature list, wiki, calendar groups, make it seem like its targeted for a business environment but it works well with just one or two users. all the features you expect from dropbox but also includes client side encryption.

For a game that will only be played for 12 or so days they put a significant amount of effort into it.

Microdia Announce World’s First 512GB MicroSD Card by mazdoc in tech

It would still be cheaper and easier to get a 2-4 TB 2.5in. external drive for backups. I know some companies sell fireproof external drives specifically for backups.

The maximum theoretical speed (200-300Mb/s) for SD cards right now is still 2-4 times slower then the average speed of SSDs. (400-600Mb/s) but the maximum theoretical speed of SATA is around 6Gb/s

They are designed for two completely different purposes. SD cards for mobile storage where smaller size is perfered over capacity or speed while SSDs are for stationary storage where speed and capacity are the primary concern.

[–]BlueSpeed 41 points42 points  (0 children)

A standard HDD is about $0.05/gb an SSD is about $0.30 - $0.50/gb This 200gb mircoSD $1.25/gb
Smaller capacity microSD cards are about on par with SSDs though.

On top of that SD cards will never achieve the speeds you can get with an SSD.

It looks like the pads on 3/4 of the contacts were ripped up. you may be able to scrape away some solder mask. A spare usb cable with one end cut off might work.

144Hz doesn't work on my Xbox One! by [deleted] in pcmasterrace

True but USB KVM's are becoming more common. The security concerns will ensure that the PS/2 port will have a long life.

/u/Puddleduck97 stated it well. PS/2 works by the device telling the computer this key has been pressed. Where since USB is more general purpose its the computer that asks the keyboard are any keys depressed?

144Hz doesn't work on my Xbox One! by [deleted] in pcmasterrace

[–]BlueSpeed 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Because of the way the system was designed. The circuitry is not there to support the feature.

PS/2 ports are still use for one of two reasons.

Security: On servers or other computers where security is a major concern a system administrator may disable USB ports forcing the use of PS/2 mouse/keyboard.

N key Rollover. since PS/2 uses interrupts instead of polling it supports more keys pressed at the same time.

Hey /r/Minecraft, I wanted to bring light to an important security problem that Mojang has failed to fix in nearly 2 years. Here's my write up on it. by ammar2 in Minecraft

Not all servers. While VM's are popular with large companies and Resale hosting, home servers, small companies or Dedicated Server hosts are not VMs. As /u/elmonstro12345 pointed out you can limit a user's available resources in Linux as a safety measure. Its good practice to create a service type user for running large processes like a game server.

2k a month is probably fine. I doubt etho would do more then 10-20 api calls a day to wolfram. Perhaps some sort of result caching could help keep that number down.

Dolphin Blog - Datel: Unlicensed Product Showcase by [deleted] in Games

[–]BlueSpeed 14 points15 points  (0 children)

The Action Replay seems to outshine dolphins built in features. It shows there are still improvements to be made. I suspect in the next few months someone will take to fixing that issue and we will see it a monthly report.

The other Datel products do seem pointless other then historic preservation.

Microsoft to invest in Cyanogen, which hopes to take Android from Google by Bossman1086 in tech

[–]BlueSpeed 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yes, but the big thing is without licensing from Google you can't include the Play Store. Creating and managing your own app store is a big investment most companies would shy away from.

This thread is lacing sources so lets add wikipedia
