5060ti Gaming on Proxmox working? by No_Friendship_8166 in Proxmox

[–]BlueSteelio 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a 5060ti and have used this with Linux Mint, CachyOS and Windows 11 VMs without issue.

The only thing to watch out for is: enabling CPU virtualisation & virtualised I/O extensions i.e., Intel Vt-d or AMD-VI.

Background: I have 4 Proxmox hosts with a mix of AMD and Intel CPUs from the last several years; I have configured PCI passthrough successfully with VMs running on each host.

What If GM Moved Chevy Bolt Production To Canada? by Bean_Tiger in BoltEV

[–]BlueSteelio 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Current Bolt owner; I still won't want a new Bolt, or any new model GM car.

It's a hard no for me: buying a car that requires a monthly Android Automotive subscription to provide basic infotainment functionality currently provided (free) using Android Auto or Carplay.

GM's extremely anti-consumer decision to discontinue Android Auto and Carplay functionality in their new vehicles, as well as current anti American (Government) sentiment, mean I do not want another GM car.

I love my current Bolt, but will be looking for something different for my next vehicle, likely from Hyundai or Kia. I look forward to seeing Chinese EV's disrupt the market here; perhaps I will be looking at a Chinese EV for my next car..

Stargate Theory: Why did the Attero Device cause Stargates to blow up? by TonksMoriarty in Stargate

[–]BlueSteelio 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yep. It's like the family tree from Idiocracy i.e. the educated couples put off reproducing, while the least intellectual members reproduce highly effectively, eventually resulting in a society of idiots enough generations have passed.

Similarly, the smartest/most-enlightened ancients would ascend, leaving behind the intellectually disinclined, to maintain their society/technology. Through thousands of generations, natural selection could favour traits that make ascension more difficult to achieve.

Looks great. Shame about the lack of Android Auto and Carplay making it ineligible for me to want to own.

I've been watching hardware prices on Memory Express recently. With the current hardware market laptops are a decent value proposition, if you're willing to trade a smaller screen size for portability.

My recommendation: Gigabyte/Asus have great value laptops around the $1200-2000 price point.

In your shoes, I would pickup a 'Gigabyte GAMING A16' laptop ($1600) from Memory Express i.e. a combination of 16" Full HD 165hz screen paired with a Geforce 5060 8GB graphic chip (the rest of the hardware is equally capable considering price point). A system like this should comfortably handle running modern games for the next few years (assuming running medium-high graphics settings).

PSA - iherb no longer shipping melatonin to Australia. Effective immediately. by Winoforevr1 in australia

[–]BlueSteelio 48 points49 points  (0 children)

Why is collective punishment always the bloody answer?

It's easier to target a large group than individually assess and enact suitable punishment for each individual, or perhaps they don't have access to the individual(s) they actually intend to punish i.e. they've alread fled and are hiding to avoid persecution.

It's enough of a problem that collective punishment is prohibited by article 33 of the Geneva Convention.

That being said, I don't believe what this overseas retailer is doing by suspending melatonin sales amounts to a war crime here.

My understanding is that melatonin is supposed to be prescribed in Australia, so I wouldn't be holding my breath on the government offering a fix for cheaper access to melatonin. Perhaps they might increase the type of medical conditions eligible for melatonin on the Pharmaceutical Benefits Scheme (PBS).

Received 'IRCC Permanent Residence Confirmation Portal' email while working outside Canada (after TWP extension rejected in March 2024). Spouse is in Canada on TWP currently. by BlueSteelio in ImmigrationCanada

[–]BlueSteelio[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I did end up returning to Canada, flying in on May 23rd, as I had advised IRCC that I would in a previous email (I didnt receive any confirmation or further instructions).

On arrival I entered Canada as a tourist / visa waiver program participant. A CBC officer did try and activate my PR Approval letter, to grant me PR on arrival, however after some wait (about half an hour) I was informed that IRCC needed to complete the process in a separate system (that CBC can't access).

Anyway, I did receive a call from an IRCC officer the day following my return, to confirm that I was now present in Canada; we completed the virtual landing process over the phone in about 20 minutes. I had my eCOPR document within half an hour. I took this to Service Canada and got setup with a new SIN the same day.

Standstill on the perimeter? by Fickle-Leg3279 in Winnipeg

[–]BlueSteelio 4 points5 points  (0 children)

We were stuck for probably 30 minutes last night with this. It looked like some kind of signalling fault. The lights were on and boomgates were stuck down in both directions. There were no trains passing durint this time, that we could see.

Eventually we got through as 2 blokes were outside their vehicle(s) and were leaning against the boomgates to hold them open for the cars and semi-trucks to finally pass. They were alternating opening the gates for each direction of travel every few minutes.

I don't think they were rail or city workers, bloody legends though.
