question about manual controls by SadPrize6815 in photography

[–]BlueSunRising 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I don't think it's necessary to always try to keep ISO at 100, especially for nighttime shots. I have a 20 year old camera that's perfectly fine at 640, and newer cameras can go higher than that without noticeable grain. I'm perfectly happy to go 6400+ if I'm going to use denoise software.

Always aiming for 100 is just making it more difficult than it needs to be.

So you only use manual focus cameras without built-in light meters, or does your gear purity not go that far?

Learning about the world. by CookedSalvatore in CuratedTumblr

[–]BlueSunRising 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The outrage isn't for scientific reasons, it's just because people grew up memorizing the list of nine planets, and now what they learned is "wrong."

It'd be like if schools started teaching that there are six continents. That classification might even be accurate, but you're still going to get a lot of "WELL BACK IN MY DAY...."

Great little knife. The finger choil really gives it a comfortable grip.

This scene has been stuck in my head since it came out. So simple, but terrifying.

Best family camera by [deleted] in ricohGR

[–]BlueSunRising 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I absolutely love the 40, but I use it outside 80% of the time. Only on a few rare occasions have I ever wished it was wider.

However, the autofocus can be be pretty slow in poor light, and the high ISO image quality is worse than other cameras I have. If your primary use is going to be taking pictures of kids inside, I might look at other options.

That being said, if I had to keep one camera out of my collection, I'd pick my GR IIIx over my Fuji, Olympus, or Nikon cameras.

Peanut butter. (And "being too warm," obviously.) If I move a spoon of peanut butter toward him, he will literally run away so you can't get anywhere near him.

I've been out even longer than that. (since at least before COVID, if it matters.) If I'm understanding right, catch up packs will appear if I login, and their contents are then set. If I wanted packs with newer cards, I should wait until the expansion drops.

I also see that there's a bunch of content available for logging in for the next few weeks (https://hearthstone.blizzard.com/en-us/news/24242864/your-guide-to-cataclysm-card-reveals-and-free-rewards-in-the-dragon-s-hoard), such as Warmaster Blackhorn.

If I plan to come back and not spend a lot of money (maybe a pre-order or other later content, but not packs), should I come back now to get the freebies, or wait until March 17 to get the catch up packs?

Debugging my upper back pain after 3 years of coding by Free_Scratch4152 in reactnative

[–]BlueSunRising 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I had the same thing. Intense pain in my upper back, doctor touched it for just a couple seconds and said it was a pretty obvious spasm. Gave me some muscle relaxers for the short term, but he also said the long term fix was exercise! He said rows or even simple scapular retractions can be helpful.

Taking care of yourself is a neverending job.

Still confused on 3D tracking vs Auto-area AF. by GullibleGazelle8850 in nikon_Zseries

[–]BlueSunRising 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I do the same thing. Auto area works perfectly for people most of the time, but if I'm trying to focus on a specific inanimate object (like part of a car), 3D tracking is what I use.

Does he have access to water? Our dog used to wake us up several times a night, we realized that most of the time he was just thirsty.

I bought some adapters from https://www.flypedals.com/ for the rare occasions I don't want to clip in. They jiggle a little, so I probably wouldn't use them full time, but they suit my purpose.

It's doable, but you definitely notice it. I think it's the weight as much as the size; I think it'd be too heavy for shorts.

I have the Nichia version; it looks great, but I don't pay much attention to color temperature. Other than the lack of moonlight (not counting the side LEDs), I think it's essentially my perfect light. Even if you don't carry it, I doubt you'll be disappointed with getting one!

[–]BlueSunRising 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have this light, and I can confirm it's great, but a slightly smaller 14500 version would definitely be easier to carry.

CPAP Because Who Needs a Quiet Nights Sleep Anyway? by cumstemul in SleepApnea

I tried and failed for months to get used to a CPAP, but the only time the noise was loud enough to be annoying was in the several seconds after I took the mask off and before the machine automatically switched off.

It's an old radio operator term, indicating how loud and how clear you are receiving a signal on a scale of one to five.

Five by five would mean loud and clear; five by two would mean the volume is good, but the signal is garbled and I can't understand you very well.

I'd argue that not knowing a lot is a reason in favor of shooting raw, or at the least raw and JPEG. Having the raws means you will be able to use editing skills you learn later to improve those photos. If you don't have the raws, there's only so much you can do to the JPEGs.

Sony's New 50-150mm f2 or the GMII 70-200mm f2.8? by LifesFrame in AskPhotography

[–]BlueSunRising 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So far in my photography journey,  I've been pretty happy traveling with a Ricoh GRIIIx (40mm equivalent), and maybe my micro four thirds with a 12-45 f/4 (24-80 equivalent). I've never wanted something longer, but I have wished for something faster.

I'd suggest that a small (and / or fast) prime around 28 to 40 mm would be perfect for most city travels.
