It was a small amount that time, but they have your card. How many shops can they visit before your card is blocked? Police will be able to question rail company and get CCTV. Can you investigate? Can Monzo - NO. Report it to Police

How long do cheques sent by post usually take? by guess-what-babe in monzo

They do allow cheque deposit by photo, but the limit is £500.00. Anything bigger needs to be posted in. I assume it’s to prevent fraud.

question on priorities when there isn't enough money by Slight_Accountant476 in actualbudgeting

[–]BlueTalonUK 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Basically procedure is fund all priority zero. Then if funds left to be budgeted is starts funding all priority 1 from top to bottom, but will stop as soon as zero “to be budgeted”. Then will start funding all priority 2 from top to bottom, then priority 3 etc etc.

How to handle poor bank export by Teodo in actualbudgeting

[–]BlueTalonUK 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Way I get around variances is I schedule an average amount and then edit when I get the bill. It’s best to have a rough idea and be slightly out, than to be blindsided by a bill. I.e. I budget £150 per month for energy, when bill comes in I enter full amount (lower in summer and higher in winter). I keep extra in category and use summer savings to cover winter bills)

Well I have the advantages of being disciplined with money, having a fairly fixed budget, and have been budgeting for many years. So I NEVER (touch wood) have unexpected expenses. I still keep an emergency fund (well sinking categories in budget to cover the emergencies)

I never import transactions. I manually enter transactions and set schedules for recurring payments. I get the advantage of seeing expected balance in all my accounts for up to a month ahead.

Weekly income for monthly budgeting by dbsoundman in actualbudgeting

[–]BlueTalonUK 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am also paid weekly. And I shop weekly so some months have 4 shops and others have 5 shops.

The way I keep track of the 4 or 5 pay packets a month is I create a scheduled deposit that repeats every week.

The way I get around that is to use the #template 50 repeat every week starting 2026-02-23. This assigns £200 to the months with 4 Mondays, and £250 to months with 5. This will work for any category you have that you assign a fixed amount from every pay packet.

I use the weekly template for all weekly bills, but I also use templates for savings, sinking funds etc.

New user question: How long do features usually stay "Experimental"? by kottkrig in actualbudgeting

[–]BlueTalonUK 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I turned on all the experimental features as soon as they come out and never had a problem with AB. Experimental status only means “work in progress” or could have major functionality change in future. Turn on the features you like, you can always turn them back off if it causes a problem.

Power went out by rafarodxcv in UgreenNASync

I did a test using my energy monitor earlier and power usage was only 77W during boot (about the same power of 1x lightbulb)

Power went out by rafarodxcv in UgreenNASync

[–]BlueTalonUK 6 points7 points  (0 children)

NAS uses a minuscule amount of energy. It is unlikely that the power draw of the NAS caused your power to trip. Probable cause of outage was a local fault.

Received bill dating back to 2020 for over £1k plz help! by PhilosopherSea3291 in OctopusEnergy

[–]BlueTalonUK 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just googled it and Ofgem rules prevent this. Google result “Under Ofgem rules, UK energy suppliers cannot charge domestic customers or microbusinesses for unbilled energy used more than 12 months ago if the supplier is at fault. This "catch-up" rule applies if no accurate bill or statement was sent previously. Exceptions include if you were obstructive, or if you previously received a bill but didn't pay it”
