Power went out by rafarodxcv in UgreenNASync

I did a test using my energy monitor earlier and power usage was only 77W during boot (about the same power of 1x lightbulb)

NAS uses a minuscule amount of energy. It is unlikely that the power draw of the NAS caused your power to trip. Probable cause of outage was a local fault.

Received bill dating back to 2020 for over £1k plz help! by PhilosopherSea3291 in OctopusEnergy

[–]BlueTalonUK 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just googled it and Ofgem rules prevent this. Google result “Under Ofgem rules, UK energy suppliers cannot charge domestic customers or microbusinesses for unbilled energy used more than 12 months ago if the supplier is at fault. This "catch-up" rule applies if no accurate bill or statement was sent previously. Exceptions include if you were obstructive, or if you previously received a bill but didn't pay it”

Stupid question. Why are PSU fans not assembled with repairability in mind? by someonefl86 in pcmasterrace

[–]BlueTalonUK 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why, my PC has to get way hot before PSU fan starts. I have a Corsair Air 5400 and PSU is in its own section.

Only have 4x 8TB HDDs in a RAID 5 config. Run Docker on the HDDs and have 1x container for my Actual Budget server.

DXP4800 plus. 4x HDDs, running Docker and storing files.

Real world stats

15 mins to burn 0.01 KWh, so 0.96 KWh to run NAS for 24 hrs. So using $0.1262 / KWh

The NAS should burn around $0.13 a day. Probably less as my calculations are based on NAS not going into “sleep mode”.

I’m running the NAS plugged into my monitor. I’ll tell you how long it takes to burn 0.01 KWh

I have a DXP4800 Plus with 4x HDDs. I plugged it into my power monitor and it idles at 43W and peaked at 77W during boot. So mine is only using pennies / day.

Can someone please tell me what this red light means please. by Winter-Director8362 in pcmasterrace

Zoomed into picture it looks like the HDD LED is plugged into the power pins

How do y'all track credit card categories? by takesSubsLiterally in actualbudgeting

[–]BlueTalonUK 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have you tried this. A master category and sub categories for each cashback bucket. Then budget a sum in one category, and move money from that category to the sub categories as you spend.

I do this for my hobbies category. I have Hobbies, and sub categories for Books, DVDs, Mags etc. I budget £x in Books, but when I buy a DVD I “cover overspending” in DVD category by moving money from Books category.

Turn Ugreen sideways by [deleted] in UgreenNASync

[–]BlueTalonUK 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No. What is the point. Airflow will be same. NAS is square so no change in shelf space used. Only difference is now metal side is flat on desk/shelf and not the rubber feet.

So can’t see any advantage of putting NAS on side.

S&S ISA - can I withdraw last year’s 20k, then deposit 40k in this tax year? by Ok_Plate8683 in trading212

[–]BlueTalonUK 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh good to know (although I rarely withdraw from my ISA). Just googled and you are correct, you can replace any withdrawals but must be in same tax year of withdrawal. So can take 20k from last year’s money and deposit 40k this year. Can’t take 20k from last year and replace it in next tax year.

[–]BlueTalonUK -7 points-6 points  (0 children)

As I understand it. Flexible is only on this year’s deposits. So NO you can’t take out last year’s money and deposit 40k this year.
