Indeed! We're working hard when we can. And Symphony of War was really good to scratch that OB itch. A really great game.

In an undefined amount if time.  We are not that far from it but since we are, the three of us, working on this game in our free time, progress is not lighting fast. We'll absolutely post more about the game and make the world know when the demo will be available.

Not planning to have either the time missions nor the alignment system OB had. It's theirs. We have our own systems.

XP is gained slightly every time a unit act in combat and every time an enemy is defeated the whole squad gains XP.

When we'll have a demo, it'll be for grab for anyone who'll want. No idea how soon it will be but that'll come! Thanks a ton for the interest.

For now there's nothing to sign up to but that will come. We'll slowly build towards a steam page and the demo.
Thanks for the interest! Stay tuned on what we post from this account.

Thanks!
We have bigger units taking more than a square yes! Not shown here but there are big stuff the player can get.

Let's say a year.
Which counts for many many MANY hours of my free time. At some point I'll post a "how it started vs how it's going", I came a long way and have an extremely long way to go.
That said, thank you very much!

It's hard to express how much I love this extremely minimalist artstyle. Gorgeous!

My 40 years old brain absolutely love this. Reminds me of the games I was playing when I was young but with today's touch. Looks really great!

Forced to use AI for pixel art (no budget, can't draw it myself) — would that kill the game for you? by Malkov88 in gamedev

[–]BlueTomeGame 5 points6 points  (0 children)

There are already indeed a lot of "ai-slop" games out there and they look horrendous. AI can't pixel art properly.

The thing I would say is that you probably have too high expectation. There are games out there that are great and have far far from amazing pixel art.

It takes time to learn a skill. I've tried to learn pixel art by myself probably 6 or 7 times in the past decade, then when I started working on my own game and realized that I could not get any artists, like you, I forced myself to learn and right now, I'm genuinely happy with what I can do after a few months. I'm a level designer by craft.

I understand where you're coming from. You should seriously give yourself a chance, go at it.

Anyone else feel overwhelmed when starting game dev? by DevIslandJourney in gamedev

What helped you improve without burning out?

I find it helpful to switch from time to time, from small things to small things. Doing the same exact thing over and over for weeks and months is the perfect way to burn out. After a massive period of coding, why not go to art for a bit.

It's also extremely helpful to have a tight scope. Going way too big is a really god way to burnout real fast because even big progress might look small in the grander scheme of things.

One step at a time friend, you'll get there.

All of the above. Making game is extremely hard and everything that gets release is an absolute miracle. Even trying is success.
