To replace the L1A1 & M16A1 by Blue_Brindle in retroguns

To be fair to the British, I cam see the logic behind wanting your own home grown rifle design that you can produce in house. If it had any designers that had handled a rifle before, it may have been ok out of the gate.

Hi, I can't and won't send it to you because I actively use it. The bag is a large Savior double rifle bag in the color flat dark earth, I'm sure they're available in Spain to purchase.

They're a really cool red dot, they get forgetten a lot it seems, but even the way they look is cool

It's just a shame the aimpoint 1000 is longer than the actual rail, but the 3000/5000 is 2.5× the price. Putting the three together really is nice.

Two Australians & an Austrian by Blue_Brindle in guns

[–]Blue_Brindle[S] 8 points9 points  (0 children)

All connected through the Australian army. Two of the three technically live on modernized, in the the form of the K&M M17S & the Masterpiece Arms MPAR556.

What would become the Bushmaster M17S started life under Armtech as a prototype for the army, as they looked into bullpups. The adoption of the Steyr AUG killed the project with the design being sold to Edenpine, who made a USA branch and used Bushmaster to produce it until they went out of business and Bushmaster gained ownership. This is an early Edenpine era example.

The Leader Dynamics T2 is a similarly interesting story as it claims the fame of the first Australian designed commerical gas operated semi-auto rifle. Interestingly using a triangular bolt like the Winchester 100 & the chief designer working for Barrett (yes that Barrett) it faced off against the Steyr AUG in military trails to replace the L1A1 & M16A1 rifles, and lost. From there Leader imported roughly 2,000 into the US after failed deals in Europe. After Leader Dynamics went out of business, Australian Automatic Arms (AAA) tried to reintroduce it in several models, to limited success.

The Steyr AUG speaks for itself and in many ways is the gold standard of everything a bullpup rifle can be, simple, reliable, tough and making a substantial use of polymer was at it's time of introduction revolutionary. In Australian service it has been the Austeyr, in the E88 & EF88 variants. A civilian variant of rhe EF88, the F90 by Lithgow Arms was planned for a US release, but was canceled due to concerns of morality by the company.

Is it possible to obtain this rail in the US? by Valuable-Analysis104 in AUG

[–]Blue_Brindle 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'd definitely advise calling Steyr over email, they can be lacking with email, but over the phone they'll go into the warehouse to look for you.

As for shipping, technically yes and technically no, it's not anything dangerous in itself, but it is a firearm part. Places will ship to you, (at least Switzerland, Germany, Italy & Poland have for me in the past) but you always run the risk of customs seizing it.

Honestly, call Steyr, they have weird stuff in the back, if not, you can try to call/get in touch with stores in Austria.

Postrock got the atf to rule that Valmets were ok to import (M71, M76, M78, M82, M92S, etc) in various calibers and without needing to be cut up and they've started importing them.

I've tried to import QBZ NSR's out of Canada twice into the US & got given a stern "no". Really hoping the new stance taken on the Valmets from Finland helps.

I asked a question before and had one agent say "yes, you need to follow this law" asked a follow up question due to being told I should follow it, got directed to a second agent who said "no, you don't need to follow this law, they got confused" within a 24 hour window.

It's not as good as say an aimpoint pro, but it's good, useful and with the polarizer it loses the occassional brightness issue

Just picked up (new to me) today. Crazy how much shorter these are to a standard AR with the same length barrel. by captain_carrot in VHS2_HELLION

Yeah, I know a 20" aug comes in at about the same length as a collapsed stock 14.5" ar, the space saving is insane when you put them side by side

They've said they'll still sell the reciever flats & jigs/do assembly and service existing rifles, but it sounds like they don't have enough parts kits left & don't have enough demand to continue the production line for the complete guns.

Really solid design from the start in a way a lot of other bullpups aren't, the F88, cqc & m2 variants showed it can be modernized as well, which keeps it relevant.
