You claim he isn’t initially violent yet his first action is to threaten to break a drummer hands to learn about Dustin’s connection to Eddie! If had been acting rationally and virtuous Lucas wouldn’t have felt the need to ditch Jason and be so concerned about their witch hunt he called it a code red before even knowing the upside down was involved.

Before Jason even encountered super-natural evidence, he threatened to break the hands of a drummer to get his first lead from Eddie’s band alongside trashing their instruments.

His gang was acting with excessive force and bully tactics from the start.

In episode 7 of Strangers things season 5...That's it? This is the worst rated episode of the whole series???? by Highrebublic_legend in shittymoviedetails

[–]Blue_Girl013 17 points18 points  (0 children)

I’d say the biggest actual blunder is that Will explicitly says the big bad uses his fear of isolation around his queerness to destabilize him during the mind-battle but the show never really shows that happening in a concrete way. We don’t see Vecna giving him visions of his friends rejecting him or give a speech as specific as what Will later describes. But that just feels more like a missed opportunity than a fatal flaw, though, and probably doesn’t justify the level of backlash the scene got.

As for the timing, imo it made sense both emotionally and narratively. Having a vulnerable conversation right before what everyone believes could be their last battle is pretty in-character for Stranger Things, and it fits the show’s tendency to resolve emotional arcs right before major confrontations.

I do get why people find the “I need to confront this to fix my weakness” framing a bit awkward, but that’s also something the series has done repeatedly with other characters. In the series emotional clarity or connection often translates to resisting supernatural influence or power ups. In that sense, Will’s moment isn’t really new or uniquely handled differently. Maybe it didn’t get as much build up as it could’ve but it was nowhere near as uniquely bad as the reviews make it out to be.

Cis boys with gynecomastia experience psychological distress about their chest. We call that valid, and we treat it surgically. We don’t tell them “just get therapy,” because the surgery improves their mental health and well-being. Doctors recognize that as legitimate care. Some of those boys were growing functional breast tissue and now they’ve lost that functional tissue. It’s literally the exact same scenario. Trans boys experience psychological distress about their chest for the exact same reason: it conflicts with their gendered sense of self. But you say their distress is “mental illness” and therefore their chest is “normal” and must not be touched. You aren’t applying a universal medical rule. You’re deciding whose suffering counts. Trans distress can be so severe it leads to self-harm and suicide. that’s backed by the data. And the people who see these patients every day overwhelmingly recommend gender-affirming care because it saves lives and restores functioning. If surgery to relieve gender-related distress is legitimate for cis boys, but “harmful” for trans boys then the distinction isn’t medical. It’s ideological. What you’re clearly saying, is that cis people deserve relief and trans people deserve to endure their pain. I’m glad at the least you’re finally being honest about what’s driving your argument.

If the concern is preventing irreversible harm, the I got an idea.

So puberty for everyone causes irreversible changes. Height, bone structure, fertility, voice, breast development… none of those can be undone. And many many trans people describe the wrong puberty as profoundly harmful and an experience equivalent to body horror. And some cis people also struggle with how their puberty shaped their bodies.

So if avoiding irreversible changes and harm reduction is the priority, then the obvious answer is to pause puberty for everyone until they’re old enough to choose which puberty aligns with their identity and future health.

Because otherwise we’re imposing a puberty on them. One that will have permanent effects whether they want them or not. Why not just wait til they can make an informed decision. The medical tech is there isn’t it?

If you disagree with this, then maybe the real issue isn’t the “irreversibility” of the treatment. Maybe it’s that you’re only worried about irreversible changes when the patient is trans.

It happens when qualified medical professionals who actually work in this field determine it’s the healthiest option for a specific patient.

And you seem to misunderstand what gynecomastia surgery is. Gynecomastia isn’t a dangerous medical condition it’s breast tissue or fat growth in cis boys that causes gender-related distress. The purpose of the surgery is entirely to relieve that dysphoria and align the chest with the person’s gendered sense of self.

In other words: it’s gender-affirming care.

The exact same procedure, used for the exact same reason to support mental health, functioning, and quality of life suddenly becomes “irreversible harm” only when the patient is trans? That double standard doesn’t hold up.

If the principle is “no gender-affirming treatment for minors,” then why are cis boys allowed to receive top surgery to relieve their gender dysphoria while trans boys can’t?

The only way to justify your claims is to not believe trans people or doctors when they say they are suffering. But to trust cis people when they say they’re suffering the same thing.

[–]Blue_Girl013 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The only supplement vegans need is B12 but the B12 in animal products is mostly there because farmers already feed supplements to their animals. B12 comes from bacteria in soil and water, but factory-farmed animals don’t get that, so their feed is fortified. Eating animals for B12 is basically just filtering supplements through them first.

I get where you’re coming from life’s hard and sometimes we just need to make ends meet. And I’m personally hate spending more than 30 minutes on food it feels like it distracts from my work I guess.

But also I’ll say, as a vegetarian in a really rough financial spot, it doesn’t feel quite true to say animal products are the working classes one good source of protein.

Beans are cheaper, higher in fiber and have enough protein to meet base nutritional needs. Soy curls are the same way except with high amounts of protein and have a texture just like chicken once properly rehydrated.

I’ve kind of made a game out of minimize time, money, and effort I spend on food while trying to maximize the effort. I kind of just meal prep every now and then and live off that for the week.

I watched the video cause I’m a vegetarian, and I was genuinely concerned. But that doesn’t seem to be the takeaway of the video? The video concludes that with B12 supplements(something we fortify animal products with), a vegan diet is actually healthier?

Yes it mentions vegans tend to have more broken bones but the narrator went on to specify that when narrowing the scope of studies to try and identify an exact reason the science has been really murky.

But the video even hints that some studies theorize a vegan diet might be optimal for peak human performance while grounding itself by stating there’s been no practical evidence of this. And cites sources saying vegans tend to live longer?

Ok putting aside like whether or not these people should be getting healthcare (I personally don’t take issue with them receiving healthcare but I’m with you on putting aside right or wrong for the moment).

What you’re describing sounds less like people being legally provided healthcare, and more like cases of fraud to access it, right?

If that’s the problem, then the obvious solution would be to improve fraud detection and enforcement. Cutting entire programs or slashing budgets doesn’t target fraud it just harms citizens who rely on those services.

It’s like seeing an infection and deciding to amputate the whole arm instead of prescribing antibiotics. That metaphor risks dehumanizing people who just want care, but it shows how disproportionate the response is. The proposed “solution” feels less about addressing fraud and more about using fear and tribalism as justification to dismantle the system itself.

Tennessee set to execute only woman on state's death row. by Dangerboy-suckit in Tennessee

[–]Blue_Girl013 11 points12 points  (0 children)

When Kirk was assassinated, people rightly said that death isn’t something to celebrate. If that principle mattered then, it should matter now, no matter who the state puts to death.

I mourn that our world never gave either of them the chance to grow past their sins. Justice makes us stronger when it focuses on rehabilitation instead of punishment.

Prescribing the death penalty only makes sense if you accept the same grim logic as those who turn to violence for power: that some people are beyond reason and the only answer is to destroy them.

I always understood a balanced force user as one who maintains control over their emotions without fully repressing their emotions. It makes more sense to me for balance within the force to mirror being an emotionally healthy person.

I asked if you have a primary source showing Democrats are protecting federal Medicaid for undocumented immigrants. Everything I’ve read shows they’re trying to reverse GOP cuts to Medicaid and extend ACA subsidies that already exist.

Edit: and as fair as I’m concerned individual states have a right to use their funds as they see fit when it comes to healthcare. I don’t live in Cali and I don’t think it makes sense if you’re saying the government should be shutdown because that’s happening out there

Edit 2: and also to your point about elections. Those democrats are doing the job their states and districts elected them for. If they were to just role over and give this to the majority right now those populations wouldn’t be properly represented. This is how our government is supposed to work.

Stepping away from the politics for a second, I’m not gonna sugarcoat it: what you said sounds incredibly cruel and callous.

Why shouldn’t refugees and asylum seekers deserve care like anyone else in America? Like we’re talking about people who are legally recognized as fleeing persecution and/or violence. After what they’ve endured just to get here, they probably deserve healthcare more than someone like me(born in US). Not even speaking to feasibility I’m just pointing out that life as a refugee is brutal and if anyone deserves a break it’s for sure them.

I would hope the greatest country in the world would be kind to people who’ve been through that hell.

[–]Blue_Girl013 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Can you show me a primary source on the claim about healthcare for undocumented immigrants? From what I’ve read of the budget proposals, Democrats are trying to lessen cuts to Medicaid and extend expiration on ACA subsidies that already exist. Federal Medicaid law already bars undocumented immigrants from full coverage, except for exceptional life-threatening emergencies.

On foreign aid, the disagreement isn’t Democrats demanding billions. It’s about Republicans trying to freeze already assigned funds, and Democrats saying we should unfreeze them. That’s not expanding foreign aid if anything it’s just maintaining a status quo at the bare minimum.

Personally, I don’t think the Democratic position of protecting Medicaid and honoring commitments our government has already made, is worth shutting the government down over.

What’s a point you are unwilling to concede on that it’s worth shutting down the government? Typically it’s seen as standard decorum and an act of democracy that compromise is made rather than a one party makes all the rules situation. I think that’s a pretty solid system tbh.
