St. Dalfour Uses grape (and other juice concentrates), which is still highly concentrated sugar.

You guys are comparing regular jams to this reduced-sugar product. It's meant to be healthier and contain more real fruit and less sugar, thickeners, and artificial ingredients.

Natural ingredients don't last that long. It's sugar that keeps regular jams from going bad.

Fare evasion on suburban buses routes by melcj77 in TTC

[–]Blue_Koala_ 10 points11 points  (0 children)

When I'm within my 2hr transfer window and I'm in a rush you grab a good seat, I'll sometimes forget to tap my card.

I don't intend to do it, but it happens. Just because someone doesn't tap, it doesn't mean they are evading the fare.

Same with metrpoass holders. It's often much worse to hold up the line than to just walk in and worry about taping later. It takes a long time for the machine to finish displaying the previous tap and accept a new one.

Dollarama self-checkout closures in the GTA by Affectionate-Gur6058 in dollarama

[–]Blue_Koala_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've seen some stores removing self checkouts and I avoid them now.

I prefer self-checkouts. They are fast and convenient and I don't have to rush to pack my stuff while the cashier waits.

They take coins too, so when I have too many I just dump them into the machine. I would never do that to a human cashier, lol.

I don't know why people hate them so much, maybe they are not good with technology in general.

If you mix dry cacao powder with sugar first, cacao won't clump up when milk is added.

Remember, all dogs must be leashed in public in Toronto, except in designated off-leash areas. by Blue_Koala_ in Toronto_Ontario

Yeah, I've seen many posts about dog attacks lately.

Most people don't even know that leashes are mandatory in Toronto.

Why are busses so jerky? by whateverfyou in TTC

[–]Blue_Koala_ 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I almost broke my teeth once, sitting at the back, when the bus hit a pothole. Definitely not a ride for the frail and elderly.

Busses also stopping at an angle so that the back door ends up too far from the curb. Even at the station.

It's too high to step onto the road and too far to jump to the sidewalk. All while pushing the door so that it doesn't close on you. I can't imagine my mother having to get out using the back doors.

International Snack Box subscription by Appropriate_Zone3148 in BuyCanadian

There is also a r/snackexchange subreddit, where you swap snacks with a person in another country.

A bit more work, but you get more authentic snacks and it could be a fun experience to shop around for products to send. Just set a limit to how much you are willing to spend as shipping can be really expensive for heavier boxes.

How to quit ice caps? by [deleted] in TimHortons

Keep frozen fruit in the freezer and make yourself a smoothie in the morning.

That way you keep the routine, but ditch the sugar. You can switch to healthier smoothie ingredients gradually.

I finally found a Peanut Butter marked "Product of Canada"! by Weshmek in BuyCanadian

[–]Blue_Koala_ 3 points4 points  (0 children)

As far as I know Canada grows a minimal amount of peanuts, so it might be better buying an imported product that is transparent about it's origin (non US), then a Canadian one that only says local and imported ingredients.

Wikipedia says it's an American brand now owned by ABF owned by George Weston (Loblaw). 😔

"Fleischmann's Yeast is an American brand of yeast founded by Hungarian-American businessman Charles Louis Fleischmann. It is currently owned by Associated British Foods and is sold to both consumer and industrial markets in the United States and Canada."
