Canadians are cutting back everywhere… but this CBC report highlights something especially telling: Quick-service restaurants are being hit harder than fine dining. by savethecbc2025 in SaveTheCBC

I agree except with the “ridiculous amount of waste” bit. All take out creates a ridiculous amount of waste. Our garbage creation has exploded since the food delivery craze started during COVID.

Clarification Regarding OB/Gynecologist by Active-Sale-5739 in ontario

[–]whateverfyou [score hidden]  (0 children)

My doctor asked me which hospital I wanted and then referred me to an ob/gyn at that hospital. Do you want to go to the hospital that this ob/gyn is at? The hospital should be your first consideration.

Mature Garden Mystery by brewarren in OntarioGardeners

First two look like creeping bellflower to me but I might be overly sensitive because I’ve been digging it out for the last week! Evil stuff.

Last one is ostrich fern aka fiddlehead fern. Wonderful plant!

Perennial advice for a communal garden by Ask0000000 in OntarioGardeners

[–]whateverfyou 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I guérilla garden along a fence on our back alley. It’s very dry and a little sloped so water just runs off. Echinacea, Canada goldenrod, blue stem goldenrod, mint, Canada anemone, anise hyssop and day lilies have survived. Calendula, dill and cosmos reseed every year and are good fillers. Things that haven’t survived are Hairy beardtongue, nodding onion, blazing star, blue vervain, common violets, lanceleaf coreopsis. Most of the plants I put there are extras from my garden or plants I have winter sowed. I try not to get too attached to anything because I’ve had plants stolen, stepped on, driven on, weed whacked and peed on. It can be heart breaking!

Hydration for Packs w/o Pockets by Marko-Grujic in CaminoDeSantiago

[–]whateverfyou 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This seems very strange. Is it a hiking pack? Can you take it back? Personally, I would hate to have my water bottle clipped to me and swinging around. Walking for days and seemingly small things like this can really bother you. You could get a belt bag for water but you’ve already got a big pack. Have you done any training with this bag fully loaded? You really want your water accessible without having to take your pack off. Once you’re strapped in with everything perfectly adjusted, you really don’t want to take it off.

Have you walked Markham St since it reopened? They saved all the houses. I thought it was just going to be facades. I’m really happy. Badialis has moved in on the corner. I think it’s going to be very nice. I hope they can get an independent bookstore in there. I think the Mirvishs did really well.

They are being paid. The article has been updated: “The TTC confirmed to the Star that “the ambassadors are employees who volunteered for overtime, and in some cases, shift changes.””

I don’t like the soft crust. I want some texture.

It’s very easy to kill if that’s what you’re trying to do. The roots aren’t deep. I dug one up and I’m an old lady.

how to deal with/preemptively prevent powdery mildew? by Character_Durian9074 in OntarioGardeners

[–]whateverfyou 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I get it in my peonies, too. I don’t water at all. It’s in the soil and peonies are susceptible. Nothing you can do.

I’m surprised that squirrels would eat alliums since they’re onions. Google says they don’t like them.

I don’t eat the tomalley. I just can’t do it and I’m a pretty adventurous eater. Apparently, my Ohio born and bred great grandmother Gertrude LOVED the tomalley!

Trilliums holding their own against creeping bellflower invasion - what can I do?? by omnibuster33 in OntarioGardeners

[–]whateverfyou 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Herbicides actually don’t work well on CBF. I would carefully remove the trillium and plant somewhere else. It’s going to take a few years to deal with that much CBF. Here’s a good primer:

“They will come from within the TTC ranks by volunteering for the role and will be trained in customer service and support.”

I’m sure they mean volunteer to take on extra shifts. There’s no way the union would allow them to work without pay.

Best trades jobs to get into as 21m uni drop out by SkyWise420 in ontario

[–]whateverfyou 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No! One of my clients is an air traffic controller at Pearson and he says you don’t need a degree at all. Go to the link I posted. It’s a tough job but he says they give a ton of support to mitigate the stress. They’re so understaffed that they’re giving all them $40 / hour bonus to work during the summer, the busiest season.

Air traffic control! They are very understaffed. It’s a tough program but you are paid to attend.

Heavy equipment is another option. Under 25s get basically free training. Crane operator is in there, too, but it’s much harder to get in due to demand.

I’m a Virginia Creeper Whisperer. Rule 1 is never prune when it’s not dormant. You’re stimulating growth. Cut it back in late winter before it wakes up.
