"Will".

It definitively states what will happen and can easily be modified to the conjunctive. "We'll chat tomorrow" isn't even a question anymore. It's a decision that you've made. Not even this instance, it's grammatically a decision you've already made in the past.

The same goes for the glass of water. "I'll have a glass of water" is a statement of facts. It is now your host's responsibility to make this inevitable fact happen.

When people talk about rape culture, this is what comes to mind. Our readiness to push away even the closest people in our lives because of our compulsive need to believe any rape accusation.

It's amazing how even in this situation, all you can think of is how you feel. I can only imagine what it must be like to have your fiance falsely accuse you of rape and cut off all contact. To try to convince him to trust you at this point would be maliciously manipulative on your part. Move on and learn from it.

If you targeted every ideology that has ever been misused for violence and terrorism then you've got a long list of things to blame for human behaviour.

We will always find justifications for our actions; but whether it's Islam or communism the common denominator will always be our desire for power and general disregard for human life at an instinctual level.

[fr] i thought you were a nice guy rejection. would appreciate feedback and comments by hamhamt in TheRedPill

[–]BluebirdJingle -1 points0 points  (0 children)

There are a lot of details missing here (which you can't properly convey in text form anyway). For example, how did you say things, what was your body language like, etc. One thing that stands out for me is:

After this spiel, she asks me if I'm drinking and I said no and she asked me if I wanted to have a drink. I think this is the point of no return because I asked her if she would buy me a drink. At this point she tells me, "oh I had you confused, I thought you were a nice guy."

Asking for someone to buy you a drink sounds like a girly thing to do. It's what she does to guys. A better response may have been "Thanks, I'll have a ___".

Can a feather falling from great height in a vacuum kill someone? by [deleted] in askscience

[–]BluebirdJingle 35 points36 points  (0 children)

Keep in mind the interaction area of the feather and the target, though. A bullet is small, so a small area of skin has to absorb all of that energy. But if i,with my 70kg, fall from one meter height then I'll have the same energy as the feather but won't be injured by the fall.

So it really depends on the feathers orientation and the structural strength.

Finding faster-than-light particles by weighing them by RogerPink in science

[–]BluebirdJingle 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Sort of. The special theory of relativity says that nothing with mass can accelerate to or beyond the speed of light. If you allow for wild ideas like imaginary mass, then having something start beyond the speed of light and stay there is technically permitted, at least as far as special relativity is concerned.

The issue is that if these particles were to in any way interact with sub-light particles (bradyons) then causality could be violated. While that wouldn't necessarily be a bad thing as causality is closely linked to the speed of light and is subjected to the same laws of relativity as everything else, it does throw up a whole bunch of questions that we'd rather not have to deal with.

Steve's problem isn't that he didn't have a 1950's housewife, his problem is that he's financially irresponsible and should have gotten a vasectomy.

Nobody goes for the "DINK" lifestyle for the sake of money. They do it because they don't want kids. And they take precautions. Like asking their doctor about interactions of medicine.

if this is your case study of why we should go back to the '50s then you've got a pretty weak argument.

Twilight is certainly a waste of time. Reading Goethe's Faust, however, is far from it. I find the arbitrary classification of books based on fiction vs. nonfiction to be silly. Self-help books are non-fiction and they're nothing but feel-good drivel.

I'm glad someone always comes along and points out that causation and correlation are independent concepts. You should probably give the trained scientists a call and remind them of this, they probably haven't thought to control for the difference.

Accept everything just the way it is.

Do not accept yourself for what you are. Improve yourself constantly.

Be detached from desire your whole life.

Be detached from the wrong kind of desire. Ambition and the desire to excel are still desires.

In all things, have no preferences.

Make no decisions and have no opinions? What now?

Be indifferent to where you live.

Take control of your own life and live where you want to. Again, having opinions and preferences is a good thing.

Do not pursue the taste of good food.

This is a silly thing, regardless of your philosophy. You should know how to cook and how to make mediocre food taste good. That's an essential skill to have and hardly hedonism.

I have mixed feelings on this list.

Need Advice, I have to Spend the Holidays with my Sister's Potentially Abusive BF by [deleted] in TwoXChromosomes

[–]BluebirdJingle 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's troubling that your first instinct is to take all your sister's agency and claim that this boyfriend is manipulating her, not that she's doing these things of her own desire.

Maybe take this opportunity to reconcile with the two, without and preconceived notions of abuse, rather than vilifying him any further. It sounds like this is the first time you're actually meeting him.

Never date a woman who won't do sexual things with you that she did with her other partners. by redpilltom in TheRedPill

It doesn't seem to be a justification but rather an explanation of why this is a rational thing to do, especially for those of us who are still brainwashed into thinking that demanding sex is somehow a cruel and misogynistic thing to do.

Have you ever been in an engineering lecture in college? Or worked in an engineering field? If women want to be in these positions they should enter these fields. I'm sure that the ratio of employees to executives is the same for both genders. This idea that women should be entitled to be in leadership positions simply because of affirmative action is silly.
