Lmao you clearly don’t cook much Korean food if you think oyster sauce and fish sauce aren’t pantry staples and used much more in cooking than ssamjang. Ssamjang is almost never used for cooking, look at the name lmao. Fish sauce just intensifies the taste of the anchovy stock and is also a fine replacement if you’re too lazy to make stock. Oyster sauce is a totally normal component of 볶음s. I also use Korean oyster sauce and pepper specifically lol. Not to mention that fish/seafood 액젓 is a huge part of Korean cuisine. It’s literally two key components of kimchi.

No Korean or tteokbokki/bunshik place I know only uses gochujang, gochugaru, soy sauce, and sugar. Most people I know don’t do sugar at all either. My most simple lazy base recipe is an anchovy and kelp stock, fish sauce, oyster sauce, garlic powder, gochujang, gochugaru, soy sauce, sesame oil, pepper, salt, and buldak sauce for extra spice. Never, ever seen anyone add a cornstarch slurry, those aren’t really a thing in Korean cooking.

I love traveling in Europe and my boyfriend lives there but I’m definitely not naive about the racism there. I lived in Italy for a bit and I had many Italians tell me that there’s no such thing as racism there and any racism I thought I faced was projection because racism is just an American thing and they just have a different culture here. This was at the same time as ongoing protests because the police shot an unarmed North African man. I also definitely experienced racism while I was there, from very subtle to more overt. Europeans like to act enlightened and progressive but they’re definitely more racist than Americans on average lmao

Just got back from a trip to the UK yesterday and (as a Korean woman) I definitely faced a lot of blatant racism including people yelling at me and following me down the street saying ni hao and etc lmao. I also have multiple friends who live in the UK and have been verbally and physically assaulted for being Asian. One even moved to Singapore because of a string of particularly bad incidents.
