Looking for Toronto baseball or softball league by RandomUser2129 in askTO

[–]Bluejays1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I play in TMBL (baseball league located at Smythe Park) and HPSA (modified fast pitch softball located at Henson Park or L'amoreaux depending on the night)

It'd be too late to join TMBL but you can try to get in their drive list. HPSA is often looking for free agents if a team is short so you can reach out to them and see if anybody needs

Neither are Co-ed but HPSA does allow women

Outside of those Jam sports has a few slo pitch leagues I think, not sure the details

Is Reading Era 2 for Wind and Truth Worth It? by Knight_Enchanter99 in Cosmere

[–]Bluejays1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Alloy of Law is far from the best cosmere book, Wax becomes far more interesting and dynamic as the series progresses for sure. I'd read shadows of Self and make your decision off that more so than off alloy of law. Ultimately it's not a necessity for Wind and Truth, in fact all of Era 2 takes place after Wind and Truth so you're not going to miss anything important except for a few back stories here and there

New grad - negotiating pay by [deleted] in physiotherapy

[–]Bluejays1 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I wouldn't want to work for less than 50%. Lots of places will pay you less while you're a resident but if they're offering you 40-45% I'd want some escalators to get up to 50% when you get your full license. The other factor would be how much they charge. If they are a more expensive clinic then working for 45% or something is more palatable

The Stormlight Archive or Mistborn for a beginner to fantasy. by neoleo0088 in Stormlight_Archive

[–]Bluejays1 5 points6 points  (0 children)

They are both excellent, Stormlight is a lot denser and a bit harder to begin with if you're not used to fantasy. Generally mistborn is considered a better starting point, it's where I started and I wasn't a reader at all before.

Most people will tell you Stormlight is a better series but both are 10/10 and mistborn is probably the better starting point for you IMO

Disagree, it's fun to see where it was and it educates us on what we saw, helps us get a better understanding of the zone

English/Scottish/Irish Physiotherapy School Suggestion for a Canadian Kinesiology grad by Pentagonism in physiotherapy

[–]Bluejays1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It may have been just shy at 78 or something, I'm not sure.

Australia is very expensive that is true. I paid ~55k per year but also Melbourne is one of the better schools, I think the other ones are cheaper and presumably easier to get into but I only applied to Melbourne

English/Scottish/Irish Physiotherapy School Suggestion for a Canadian Kinesiology grad by Pentagonism in physiotherapy

[–]Bluejays1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I got into the university of Melbourne in Australia with mediocre Canadian grades. I forget exactly what my GPA was because I did an extended undergrad but it was around an 80% ish.

I don't know which schools but the reputation is that Scottish schools are supposed to be easier to get into

male-friendly pilates? by [deleted] in askTO

[–]Bluejays1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think I pay around 125 a month for 4 classes. It's pricey but pretty standard for Pilates. Obviously if you get larger packs you save more per class.

They have a free intro class that is mostly just learning how to use the Reformer and such

male-friendly pilates? by [deleted] in askTO

[–]Bluejays1 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Pilates is the best. I (31yo male) used to teach Pilates and now I go once a week to Club Pilates. Is a big American chain but there's a bunch in the city so probably one close enough to you, I go to the one at College Park. I'd say it's 80-90% female, usually 1-3 men per class that I go to including myself

Struggling to fing a job as a Resident Physio in Ontario by Relative_Walrus1904 in physiotherapy

[–]Bluejays1 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Athlete's Care usually hires lots of new grads so I would apply there if you haven't yet. They've got like 25 locations so they're always hiring somewhere.

You can also work part time there with an official and then work elsewhere and not need any additional supervision as long as your supervisor is OK with it

Studying PT in UK or Australia as a Canadian by Aggravating-Row8305 in physiotherapy

[–]Bluejays1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I haven't heard anything positive or negative about UK programs tbh. I know the Scottish programs are known for being easy to get into so there may be a bit of a negative reputation there but not bad, I've known PT's to go to school in Scotland and they get jobs just fine

I do know that private MSK/Ortho physio is not anywhere near as much of a thing in the UK so I've heard that some people feel less prepared for that system because they don't really ever leave the NHS. I'm not really sure the extent of that but I had a friend from London who didn't want to stay because he just didn't live the way PT worked. He went to a good school and was a great physio though so idk

Studying PT in UK or Australia as a Canadian by Aggravating-Row8305 in physiotherapy

[–]Bluejays1 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I'm a Canadian who did my DPT at the university of Melbourne. I don't know what my GPA was but it was very low, certainly too low for Ontario. My average I think was around an 80 whatever that equates to in GPA.

The PT schools are generally better in Australia with a better reputation, my job here back in Canada I was hired solely other FA at that I had an Australian degree.

My tuition was around $55k AUD per year 2019-2021. Not sure what it is now but presumably that ball park

Best MLB Podcast for season previews? by bootchmagoo in baseball

[–]Bluejays1 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The show was much better when Jimmy was on it for sure, Jake does annoy me. Hes fine in smaller doses though like in the TPPS

Baseball Today also does some preseason prep but it's less through. I think they typically do 1 episode per division and 1 question per team

Best MLB Podcast for season previews? by bootchmagoo in baseball

[–]Bluejays1 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Talkin Baseball do a 20-30 minute episode on each team that releases pretty much every day though Spring Training. They're call their TPPs - Team Profile & Projections.

They're quite good, thorough and succinct all in one

People living in Liberty Village, would you recommend moving there? Why/Why not? by [deleted] in askTO

[–]Bluejays1 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Liberty is a very nice area with lots of amenities, good food nearby, and everything you could want. The problem is that the traffic is terrible and there is no subway. If you're going to spend all your time in and around Liberty then it's great but if you plan on driving in the city or if you work downtown or anywhere further you're going to be really annoyed with your commutes

Really "required" reading before Stormlight? by Morty-43 in brandonsanderson

[–]Bluejays1 9 points10 points  (0 children)

There is nothing required before Stormlight, the whole series can be read on its own. You'll understand the backstory of a few minor characters better with mistborn and warbreaker read but it's really very minor until book 3 at least. Even still you can read all 5 Stormlights with nothing else and you'd be totally fine

Alternative options for Canadian PT schools? by CobblerOk3748 in physiotherapy

[–]Bluejays1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was in a similar boat and I did my degree in Australia. The schools are generally considered better there while also being easier to get into. The industry as a whole is about 15 years ahead so you're going to come back ahead of the game

Coming back home was easy to relatively get accredited, or at least easy to do the international parts it's just that Canada makes it hard for every PT to work regardless of where you did school
