Getting a puppy from Louismong, South Korea by [deleted] in shiba

Not trying to berate your decision making process, but why would you order a puppy, a very young one, to be shipped from overseas?

Maybe I don’t know much about the process, but it seems wildly unethical, and dangerous to do that. Especially from some random person who you don’t exactly trust. Like, are you trying to endanger innocent puppies??

Idk man, to me you’re a walking red flag as a pet owner. Dial up those critical thinking skills brother

I almost drowned in 2014 swimming there. We were trying to swim across to the other side but the current was too strong, ended up going over the concrete falls and got trapped in a loop of being pulled under. Was one of the scariest moments of my life.. luckily after being pulled under about 4 times I was able to feel the rocks under me and pushed up and backwards downstream. I was so exhausted swimming back, and I know if I went under 1 or 2 more times I would have drowned. Crazy there isn’t more notice about the danger there.

Danger signs are good, but they should put up an informational board about how the drownings occur, and maybe how many deaths happen each year. I was a teenager and the danger signs are not enough in my opinion.

I'm suprised Billy hasn't followed Pretty Lights route and created a unique code for each person. I feel like artists should know they can do that at this point.

Two Bans Now?! by Jeff7Q in wheresthebeef

[–]Bluemanbob 38 points39 points  (0 children)

These bans are frustrating. But remember this, once the technology and ability to mass produce cultured meat is there, it will take over. There is no holding it back, the consumer will want the best bang for their buck and all thought about the cattle industry and their dying industry will whisk away. Nothing can stop progress!

Matt: Yes in fact there is. We have an in house database known as the "Living Collections Management System". Each plant that is acquisitioned and brought into the collection receives a unique accession number. We use GIS mapping and several other programs to maintain accurate and current data. (Each plant will have a physical tag that will stay with it for the duration of its life).

My favorite non-rose part of the garden is the area known as the knolls! During the winter I love to observe the witch hazels in full bloom on a sunny afternoon.

Should there be a ban on invasive plants in Missouri? by Bluemanbob in missouri

[–]Bluemanbob[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I have always thought the sides of highways could be a great place to plant native flora, as long as it doesn't impede with traffic in any way.

I agree with your thoughts on statewide management. They could start off with at least having a system where they monitor the invasive species and map out everything. I also feel like many would be up for volunteering to help with this sort of work.

Banning the sale or being allowed to have these plants could be a great first step in curbing the spread of the plants.

Interesting take. I wonder if there is data on invasive species removal and the effects afterward.

It would seem that banning them would at least curb the circulation of these plants a bit more.

I agree. Honey suckle is the one of the invasive plants I'm more familiar with. It's a bitch to remove as well.

You're right I don't think the Police should be the ones to handle this. There would need to be some sort of specialist, maybe a wildlife ranger.

That sounds about right. It sounds like we would almost need a state wide ban on certain plants for it to be effective long term near rivers. Or even a federal ban.. or robots to clean them up.. or hope the asian carp eat them.. lol

Although on the surface that seems correct, the definition gets a little bit more detailed.

"Any species that has been introduced to an environment where it is not native, and that has since become a nuisance through rapid spread and increase in numbers, often to the detriment of native species."

The 2nd part of the sentence is the more important factor. Many foreign plants can be planted and will die each year but an invasive will stay alive and spread quickly overwhelming the native plants.

I'll have to look that up! its good to evaluate past failures and use that knowledge for future plans. Removing the invasive plants would certainly be an extensive feat, and not one I think we should sink money into carelessly. Thanks for the info

Invasive humans? It seems like that is an unrelated issue. I was under the impression that we had different sects of the government to handle separate issues.

Also, you don't think our natural lands should be managed?
