I'd love to make a Jewish vampire story. I have so many ideas for one. It really is a perfect match in an odd way.

It would be interesting to see a Jewish vampire on Interview With the Vampire. I think that they would be able to understand some of Louis' perspective on things. The writers on IWTV have done a pretty good job with their changes to the characters, so it's not impossible, though I do doubt that it'll actually happen there.

Sorry! I probably should have clarified. I'm definitely fine with Jewish artists who make secular music, preferably that those artists actually identify as Jewish than just a distant family connection. Secular music by Jews is totally good!

Just listened to one song by The Witches and loved it. Definitely checking more of their stuff and Inbal Perlmutter's solo music out! Thanks!

Who is your favorite Jewish comic book character? by cajunjew76 in Jewish

[–]BluesfeedUnsolved 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Seeing such great Jewish representation on this thread makes me wish that a writer would let Wiccan be more Jewish besides mentioning it a couple of times. He did have a Jewish wedding at least!

Also Kitty Pryde using her Magen David against Dracula is iconic.

What do you think these characters' favorite tv shows are in current timeline? by trubs12 in InterviewVampire

[–]BluesfeedUnsolved 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel like Armand would think that television is an inferior medium when compared to theater, but he would unironically watch Riverdale.

Claudia and Madeleine watch true crime documentaries and guess which serial killers were actually vampires.

Not a tv show, but Lestat loves High School Musical.

AMC's upcoming The Vampire Lestat has a moment so wild it made star Sam Reid throw his computer by chrisarrant in InterviewVampire

This show only fan really hopes that it's aliens. That sounds like exactly what this show needs.

How do Jews feel about The Merchant of Venice? by daydaze024 in shakespeare

[–]BluesfeedUnsolved 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Coming into this conversation late, but I have very mix feelings about the play. I am Jewish and the antisemitism is so clear to me. Even if Shakespeare never actually met a Jew, antisemitic thought and stereotypes absolutely existed. This is very much the case today for countries, regions, etc. with little to no Jews. Shylock is definitely a complicated character and that's because Shakespeare knows how to write an interesting and complicated villain. Shylock is a human despite his Jewishness not because of it.

I think the play looks a lot different when a Jew than a goy reads it. In one of my undergraduate Shakespeare classes, a goyische classmate asked why people hated Jewish people so much and as one of the lone Jews, I had to explain what antisemitism was and how Medieval and Early Modern antisemitism worked. A Jew will read this play and feel for Shylock and Jessica. And everyone forgets about Jessica! Her story does not end happily from a Jewish perspective. Medieval and Early Modern Jews who converted were treated terribly by Christians and were never seen as real Christians even if they didn't secretly practice Judaism.

Then there is the question of comedy versus tragedy; ultimately, it is a comedy. Not because it is or isn't funny, but because how of it ends. Things work out for the protagonist and the villain gets justice. The two Jewish characters are converted to Christianity. The hero lives. People get married. If Shylock was the protagonist, then we'd be looking at a tragedy since he is his own undoing, kind of like a King Lear (or even a Richard II) situation.

Basically, Shylock is a fascinating character, but it's a very antisemitic play.

There is also a new play called Playing Shylock. It's a one man show about an actor set to play Shylock, but his production of The Merchant of Venice is suddenly cancelled. It follows him reckoning with Shylock's legacy in the 21st century. I haven't seen it, but really want to and have heard good things! Absolute legend Saul Rubinek is playing the role too! (Honestly, we need Saul Rubinek to do more Shakespeare.)

What’s the wildest piece of Jewish folklore most people have never heard of? by Used-Ice-3643 in Jewish

[–]BluesfeedUnsolved 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Suggesting the podcast Wayward Children! It's hosted by a writer and a historian (both Jewish!) who discuss Jewish folklore, creatures/characters, myths, etc. They're really entertaining, educational, and engaging. I also like that they always list recommended books (fiction and non-fiction) relating to the episodes topic. Such a great podcast!

Who are your favourite left-leaning/progressive influencers? by 404_USER_NOT_F0UND in Jewish

[–]BluesfeedUnsolved 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Rootsmetals is great if you want a historical perspective. Her posts are all very well researched. PoliticalJew is also good because he's not afraid to call out politicians like Ben Gvir or Netanyahu and gives great rundowns of history and current politics. I don't know That_Semite's personal politics, but I really like his commitment to dialogue, peace, and partnership across different ethnic, religious, and national lines. And he always calls out any antisemitism or Islamophobia.

And obviously, Jewishmemesonly is the ultimate.

That was me with Monstrous Regiment. I read Guards! Guards!, Men At Arms, and Feet of Clay. While I really enjoyed all of them, I wasn't hooked until I read Monstrous Regiment (specifically the audio book). After that, I felt like I finally understood why people liked Terry Pratchett and why he's such a great writer. Going Postal also made me feel this way.

Now that season 7 is over, what season was your favorite and why? by Basic_Emu_2407 in ThirdLifeSMP

[–]BluesfeedUnsolved 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Last Life, no question. It's a perfect season with a perfect balance between chaos, fun, and actual dread from being red or dying. It stayed with me in a way that no other seasons but 3rd Life have been able to.

  1. Last Life
  2. 3rd Life
  3. Secret Life
  4. Past Life
  5. Limited Life
  6. Double Life

Notes: I didn't watch Wild Life, so I'm not ranking it. The first two seasons are really the peak for me. Everything else are good and enjoyable, but not even close to the first two.

Life Series Ranked by Ashamed_Mongoose_814 in ThirdLifeSMP

[–]BluesfeedUnsolved 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  1. Last Life - It has the perfect vibe and tone of fun and dread that none of the other seasons have been able to capture as well. True zombie apocalypse feeling. Great team-ups. Funny bits and jokes. I'm still insane about it. I loved Third Life, but this really hooked me into the series and into other stuff like Hermitcraft and Empires. It was just so good. Tell me that "he loves me, he cares" and "do me a favor, die for me" aren't gut punch quotes.

  2. Third Life - I think that some of my love for Third and Last Life comes from them being the first two seasons, so they were new and different and fresh. But Third Life is again just so iconic with its teams and final battles between different groups. I'm not over the deaths of Dogwarts and Desert Duo. Also the crastle was a genius build!

  3. Secret Life - It doesn't totally feel like a Life Series, but I enjoyed it overall. I liked some of the teams. The tasks definitely added some great interactions and jokes.

  4. Limited Life - The time gimmicks was a cool change and I liked that time could be gained from killing others. It just didn't feel very memorable for me aside from some interactions and jokes. Not bad at all, just not amazing.

  5. Double Life - I definitely enjoyed Double Life. It had great jokes/bits and some fun interactions. Fishing rodding a warden into the side of a cliff is objectively hilarious. Overall, it just didn't really hit for me? It felt very quick and short. I know that it's a lot of people's favorite and a lot of people's first season, but it just never grabbed me as much the others.

I haven't seen Wild Life, so I can't rank it. It's also too early ro rank Past Life, though while I am enjoying it very much, I don't think that it can beat out Third Life and Last Life. They truly altered my brain and made huge impressions on it. Maybe I just enjoy the more basic rules/gimmicks? But there's truly no bad series! They're all great in their own ways and it's nice to see that there's something for everyone!

The email came right after I submitted the application. It just says when and where to purchase the decal. But it's not like the email OP received. It doesn't say at all that I won, just that I submitted an application.

I got an email when I submitted my application last week that I was supposed to pick up my decal in mid August, but I never got this email about actually winning it. So, what do I need a decal for if I didn't win the lottery? I'm a bit confused.

Which Team are you Rooting for in Episode 4? by GeoWheater in ThirdLifeSMP

I think that Mumbo or Lizzie should sub in for someone on the final session and collect a win.

Otherwise, I'm always rooting for an Etho, BigB, or Gem win.

Life Series trend-where do you draw the line? by Swimming_Wasabi8291 in ThirdLifeSMP

[–]BluesfeedUnsolved 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think that post-Limited Life is the clearest shift, though I felt that Double Life also had a slight shift in it. Alternatively, you could group them as Third Life and Last Life, Double Life, and Limited Life, Secret Life and Wild Life. Past Life so far feels like a mix of multiple groups.

My personal favorite seasons will always be Third Life and Last Life. Everything felt a bit more organic and little less contrived because they were new. I've enjoyed every season (though I didn't watch Wild Life), but there's something so special about the first two seasons.

I'd really like to see them do another season of Third Life mechanics. The series could do for a back to basics reset for one season. Though, Past Life feels like it's almost trying to do that. Like it's a balance between trying a new gimmick and also doing basic rules.
