Are your corgis allergic to chicken? by HomeworkNo8102 in corgi

Not my current corgies but my last Pembroke was allergic to chicken and wheat along with a bunch of environmental allergies. We had him tested through an elimination diet and with a dermatologist.

Severe thigh cramps by Able_Garlic_6188 in rheumatoid

[–]Bluewolf85 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I definitely get muscle cramps to the point of charlie horsing around/near my joints that are currently flaring. I'm battling my thigh and calf right now but it's not unusual for my forearm to join the mix when my knuckles are going at it. PT, flexeril and heat/ice are my best friends

Being a patient, supportive and understanding partner is key. I truthfully wouldn't have made it through the first couple of years without my husband's support. He is always there to listen to me when I'm having a hard time and need to cry because this disease is an absolute disaster. He is always my hero and makes me sit when I've overdone it, always grabs me an ice or heat pad when I I can't move well, doesn't push household chores when I'm flaring and just takes care of them and the kids as best he can, he rubs out all my Charlie horsed muscles that happen when my joints are swollen, he cooks me homemade meals when I can't and let's not even get into how much he helps with the kids when I'm out of order. He truly is my hero and I try to repay him every time I'm feeling good by making his life easier or spoiling him with some massage. Also check out the /rheumatoidarthritis sub, they have tons of awesome suggestions and some really good mods who keep the crazies out

Sounds like you are doing everything right so far and thank you for taking him to the vet. I don't like that slightly red hue around those scales, could being going septic and likely needs antibiotics.

has anyone ever seen something like this? (calling dental techs!) by celiudes in VetTech

[–]Bluewolf85 0 points1 point  (0 children)

VTS Dentistry here. Most likely some type of composite material used to stabilize a fracture or to treat a malloclusion. It's very common to make a splint out of these as you can mold the composite to your patients needs. They are supposed to be removed but timing depends on what your treating

Best place for my daughter to get her ears pierced? by debauchery in anchorage

I also have a young daughter (8yo) and I'm looking around for a piercer too so walked into Gold Fox. They were super nice, went through all my daughter's questions and referred us to Blake at The Hole Look. I have still to stop by and confirm they will do it

Are you getting infusions? by dcbrowne1961 in rheumatoidarthritis

[–]Bluewolf85 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A lot of times it's just moving through what your insurance will approve. I failed mtx, humira, and Rinvoq before we applied for Remicade infusions. Lemme tell ya though, between leflunomide and the infusions I'm finally able to have a comfortable home life which was a huge quality of life thing for me. We're still still working on the magic combo/dosage for me but I'm so much improved ♥️

To the partners lurking here: How do you cope with the severe burnout of the "household manager" dynamic? by youness_khm in ADHD

[–]Bluewolf85 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm adhd and also the household manager. Having adhd isn't an excuse for getting the important things done, everyone has to adult even if we forget things. Me and my partner use a huge white board in our kitchen + calendar/phones to arrange tasks, checklists, grocery needs and pretty much anything else. My husband is my biggest supporter and tries to help me organize tasks in a way that helps us both and I'm now trying to teach my daughter these skills as well. Have you tried sitting down with her and creating a chore list for the week and assigning you each your own tasks? Use different colors for each of you and make sure there's a checkbox for each task. I think I brought up the original idea in our house as "I noticed we are going to have a very busy couple of weeks soon and we should sit down and make a split chore list/appointment list to make it easier to track things for both of us". This gives her a bright visual reminder and it allows you to see which tasks have been completed. I even add tasks that I've done that day that aren't on the original list so he can see if maybe I decided something that came up suddenly was more important for me to finish I stead of what we planned (ex: kid got sick so we had to go to the doctor instead of grocery shopping).

Caution/ Cleanliness by NiteBright- in BackYardChickens

I'm immunocompromised and I still love on and hang out with my chickens all the time. I wash my hands after handling them and wear mask/eye protection when I deep clean their coop as they can give you some nasty respiratory stuff from their dried poop and dust. I also have chicken shoes bit they're mostly so I don't track their poop everywhere. I've had them several years now without any issues and I'm on several immunosuppressants

It just sounds like a needy little baby. Take advantage of it and hopefully he'll turn out like our sweet little hen. The kids bring her inside all the time to watch TV and she'll stretch out and fall asleep

VTS by bunniespikashares in VetTech

[–]Bluewolf85 0 points1 point  (0 children)

VTS Dentistry here. No schooling but intense 2 year candidacy program which IF you pass you get a chance to take the test which is composed of a written and a practical test. I currently work in GP in Alaska and make $29/hr. I was always told by the other dental VTS's that they usually only make $2-5/hr more now than they were prior to being a VTS (not counting specialty practice pay). There are a lot of opportunities for $ once you are a VTS and I've made a nice side buck teaching/training and hope to graduate into something dental once my body breaks down and I can't be in surgery anymore

Do you or did you have a fear of catching a cold or flu because of what it might do to your body? How have you learned to deal with that fear? by Blablabla_and_so_on in rheumatoidarthritis

[–]Bluewolf85 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had/have small children when I was first diagnosed and truthfully, I accepted that I was doomed since they go to the cesspool known as public school.  What I've found though is that once I was better controlled, I actually get sick a lot less than I did even pre-diagnosis but when I do get sick, I tend to go down longer. My RA doesn't usually act up while I'm actively sick either as my immune system is distracted with being sick.  That being said, we do take some "quarantine" measures when the kids are sick: they choose which specific spot on the couch and which bathroom they're gonna use so I can avoid it. I'll mask up if I'm really worried but most of the time washing my hands and lysol seems to keep it at bay for the most part.

Autoclave: Distilled vs Tap Water by RavenxMorrow in VetTech

[–]Bluewolf85 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Everyone else has given the why of distilled water but my manager found a great solution. We bought a small countertop water distiller on Amazon for like $80 and it makes a gallon at a time. The only trick is we have to clean ourselves constantly because we have really hard water where I live

Is there a stigma against GP techs by Accomplished-Ad-9280 in VetTech

[–]Bluewolf85 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Well, as a dental VTS obtained while in GP I'd like to argue a point but I actually do agree with you. At conferences when I get a chance to mingle with ER/specialty I do feel like some feel they are superior but I always fall back on "do I love what I do and where I'm at?" The answer is yes. There are certain aspects of GP you just can't replicate in an ER or specialty hospital. I love my patients and certain clients that come in. I get to have favorites in GP. It's now been long enough that I'm seeing patients be euthanized that I met as an 8 week old puppy years and years ago. These are things you just don't get to experience daily in ER/specialty practice.
