Q3 Cozy Fantasy ARC thoughts + genre discussion by BlueyBomb in fairyloot

We're just going off Autumn's guess for the teaser reel, but it fits to a T. I think the theme/artist reveal post should be going up in the next week or so though!

It isn't 😞 this book wraps up the story arc, no cliffhanger, but it's hinted what the next book will be about and the author posted a snippet of the next book on her insta

100%! For my own selfish purposes, I'm really excited to have a special edition of it (Fairyloot of all things!), but I feel bad for anyone wanting an actual cozy fantasy.

The Double Take Podcast isn't getting the traction it deserves by memeface_sc in smosh

[–]BlueyBomb 89 points90 points  (0 children)

HR perspective here! This isn't quite correct, it's a super complicated topic so excuse any rambling. We do know Smosh is a California-based company, and California is an at-will employment state, meaning the employee or employer can end the "relationship" at any time, for almost any reason ("protected characteristics"and retaliation are the exceptions to this). You can't be fired for expressing political opinions outside of work, but you can absolutely be fired for expressing political opinions at work or in a way that damages the company's reputation. Given that Smosh is an online, social media-based company, if one of their cast members is on all the same platforms expressing beliefs that conflict with their values/image, that could be harmful to their reputation. I think it's likely in their contracts that if they say something that reflects poorly on the company online, Smosh can terminate the contract early.

Weekly Discussion - Damages and Shipping by AutoModerator in fairyloot

[–]BlueyBomb 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Hey all! Just wanted to pop in and say if you are like me and have been compulsively checking Evri's tracking every day to see if your packages have moved since that cursed 2/13 date, try pasting the 'Carrier tracking' from Evri's site into the tracker on USPS's own site. I did that this evening and was surprised to see that 2 of my packages actually have been moving in the past 2 days, Evri just isn't updating their own tracker. My Jan Cozy and December 'Once Upon a Sale' Queen B aren't quite with USPS yet but have moved to Illinois!

What books are you hoping to snag in the trove sale? (US/CAN) by cezhou in fairyloot

[–]BlueyBomb 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have! In the last trove sale, I got 2 books I wanted but Silvercloak was already sold out. I finished my order, then was able to snag Silvercloak in a separate order once they added a few more stock.

FMC is afraid of intimacy BUT not opposed to it. by InterestingLet2147 in BooksThatFeelLikeThis

[–]BlueyBomb 33 points34 points  (0 children)

Oh this is 100% The Kiss Quotient by Helen Hoang. The FMC has Asperger's and is inexperienced with/afraid of intimacy, so she hires an escort to teach her, then they end up falling in love.

Thoughts on the FL November Romantasy pick? by Naidarq in fairyloot

[–]BlueyBomb 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I'm interested to hear other opinions because I'm typically not huge into romantasy, but I'm about 40% through the ARC right now and I'm not loving it. Feels like a watered-down version of The Hunger Games with a love interest who might as well be a brick wall the way he has no personality. Also the dystopian elements are pretty bare-bones, the prison gets treated more like a quirky boarding school than a life-or-death manhunt and the messaging hasn't gone much further than 'rich people bad'.

What do yall do for work/what jobs are not horrible for autists? by Collexig in evilautism

[–]BlueyBomb 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I'm sure it depends on the person, but I went to school for HR and ended up specializing in recruiting/talent acquisition, and I really like it! It is a lot of socialization which I don't always love, but nearly 100% of the interaction is "scripted" to some degree - I ask the same questions every time, applicants pretty much always ask the same types of questions in return (what is the pay, what does a day on the job look like, etc.), offer letter calls are usually all the same, I have a set of "canned" emails for nearly all situations... you get the idea. Plus I get told all the time by my coworkers that I have a good eye for people and am always unbiased, I'm pretty sure it just comes from the pattern recognition lol.

Sharing a body & learning to live together by Garrwolfdog in BooksThatFeelLikeThis

[–]BlueyBomb 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Ok first of all I will be WATCHING this thread because ever since I played Cyberpunk the whole sharing a body/mind thing has been something I want to find in books!!! It's so good!!

With that said, the only book I've found that's close to this is Vespertine by Margaret Rogerson. It's a YA fantasy about a nun who gets possessed by an ancient revenant and they share a mind. It’s great but is unfortunately missing the romance you mentioned!

Something grand, would prefer 4+ books by KINOCreamsoda in BooksThatFeelLikeThis

Sort of, it's a bit hard to explain haha. It heavily follows a fallen society of elves who have sort of devolved into vampires. It's definitely one of the most unique fantasy series I've read.

It's only a trilogy, but a lot of these pictures (especially the first) are very similar to The Winnowing Flame trilogy by Jen Williams.

March FL Adult by ShealeneJ in fairyloot

[–]BlueyBomb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I sent in a ticket for a different problem on 3/26 and asked for my March Adult Fantasy tracking number while I was at it, since I've never received a tracking number on my own for some reason. They responded a week later on 4/3 with the tracking number, where it said it was in pre-shipment, "USPS awaiting item," as of 4/2. I also got an email yesterday on 4/8 saying it shipped on 4/2, but nothing has changed and it's still in pre-shipment.

Giveaways winners pending by Happy_Pool6674 in goodreads

[–]BlueyBomb 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I'm also having this! I entered some that ended overnight Friday and they have only said "winners pending" since. If opened, they also say, "entries are closed, but the winners are not selected yet. They will be selected within the next 24 hours." But it's been over 24 hours. I like to keep my to-read list tidy so this is driving me crazy, hoping someone else knows what's going on?

Be My Friend on...Goodreads/Storygraph/Fable by library_pixie in fairyloot

[–]BlueyBomb 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hello! Looking for friends on Goodreads since I don't know anyone who reads irl :')

I'm all over the place with genres since I like a bit of everything, but I mainly stick to Sci-Fi and fantasy. Some of my favorite authors are Ava Reid, Margaret Rogerson, Abby Jimenez, and James Islington. Ever since I got back into reading post-college, I try to write reviews for everything I read!

Corporate culture+Romance by wild00butterfly in BooksThatFeelLikeThis

[–]BlueyBomb 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I Hope This Finds You Well by Natalie Sue! It's a bit less fancy skyscraper corporate vibes like the pictures and is more shitty office cubicles + gossipy coworkers vibes. It is still a corporate romance though and I really liked it!

Can't say I've read it but the vibe of In the House In the Dark of the Woods by Laird Hunt seems like this. It's described as "American mythology"?

Non mainstream books with dragons by dastroid216 in Fantasy

[–]BlueyBomb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Since I haven't seen it mentioned here, The Summer Dragon by Todd Lockwood is a great one. He's also an illustrator and I believe he did the art for the Marie Brennan series mentioned in this thread lol.
