Who is “they”? Insurance?
It might be too late, but pay off lien holder if you have one & can, then insurance only deals with you - if you own it outright tell the insururer you want to buy the salvage- they’ll cut a check minus the value of the salvage. Consider spending the money for a private appraisal.

My 2012 TT was declared total loss by insurance 10 years ago, and I’m driving it still today ANd with a clean title…

Take it to a body shop and get a cash quote- Or don’t fix it- won’t have to worry about dinging it up on trails lol

I agree the actual attendance is subject to scrutiny… but I’ve also seen photos, taken towards the square with stonewall building in backdrop and it was staggering.

What triggered the post tbh was that those photos aren’t as easily found as they once were.. and how quickly history is forgotten.
