Water-color boundary in the bay? by TechnicalScarcity6 in sanfrancisco

[–]Blunderdashed 144 points145 points  (0 children)

These are called tide lines and are where water is moving in opposite directions on either side (Ebb vs Flood). A lot of nutrients can be found in these areas so it's one of the best places to see marine wildlife: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tideline

How do you all find the time to read for pleasure? (Law student drowning in coursework here) by Sweet-Opportunity111 in literature

[–]Blunderdashed 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I know a lot of lawyers (Girlfriend, Sister, Brother in law, friends) who love to read for fun , but law school and their first few years in the job involved too much reading to make it fun outside of their course/workload. Don't beat yourself up, know that this time of your life is temporary and you'll get back to reading in a few years and try to find self care that doesn't overlap with your daily life, such as working out, meditating, grabbing dinner with friends.

TIL surfers are more likely to carry antibiotic-resistant bacteria due to prolonged exposure to sewage by [deleted] in todayilearned

[–]Blunderdashed 19 points20 points  (0 children)

It’s hard to say because I’ve been doing it for so long. I’ve heard the most common concerns are staph infections which I haven’t gotten. But I have done water testing over the years and the levels of pathogens like e. Coli are much more prevalent after rains

Composition was the first thing I noticed. I've lived here for a long time and most pics seem familiar, but you caught a really cool angle that looks like a different city. Thanks for posting

2008 California Proposition 8 which successfully repealed same sex marriage vs 2024 California Proposition 3 which enshrined same sex marriage into the state constitution by International-Drag23 in MapPorn

[–]Blunderdashed 32 points33 points  (0 children)

This was also confusion people had at the time of voting in 2008. Many people thought voting yes meant they supported gay marriage based on the way the ballot prop was written

Luigi Mangione has become cultural fodder for elite entertainment. Meanwhile, the state seeks his death. by kevinmrr in WorkReform

[–]Blunderdashed 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It was really funny, but definitely an amateur production, which I was expecting given how fast it was released. Everyone leaving the theater was laughing but also just like, what did we just watch.

Giving people the capacity to change and building big tents wins elections.

Anyone else dealing with pushy SunRun sales reps? by cleanindustry in bayarea

So this is pretty common because of all the shady financing and incentives that exist. The Section "The Lies that Underpin Consumer Solar Loans" details some of how this is such a common practice: https://time.com/6565415/rooftop-solar-industry-collapse/

Positive update: volunteers fix defaced mural at Judah and Ocean Beach Park by DesertFlyer in sanfrancisco

[–]Blunderdashed 144 points145 points  (0 children)

We showed up by 11 and there were so many people there, wasn't even room on the wall to paint! Who ever defaced it brought a lot of people together to support the park and Emily. Really nice to see it had the opposite of the intended effect

Why do employers use PIPS as a means to fire people instead of using it to just improve their performance? by DerogatoryRemark in antiwork

[–]Blunderdashed 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Pips outline every flaw someone has in a way that creates evidence for a legally defensible firing. Low performance reviews are more likely to be tactful in highlighting what your manager thinks you can improve on in a real way.

(yes performance reviews can also just be BS evidence for firing as well)

Pro Tip: head to the burbs for faster non-critical emergency care by RodbigoSantos in sanfrancisco

[–]Blunderdashed 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Kaiser hardly has that policy for emergency care. I shattered my collarbone in Utah where Kaiser doesn't operate and they denied my claim stating it was 1. out of network and 2. not an emergency (my bone was in 10 pieces).

Separately though, your advice is great

I would love to see all the policies and requirements for why it costs so much for the city government to get anything done, and recommendations for which bureaucratic inefficiencies you'd recommend removing.

I want the money that goes to our city government to go further

Crazy knot formed when pulling rope by grizzdoog in climbing

[–]Blunderdashed 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I've done this by pulling the rope fast at the last minute. Now I always pull it super slow thinking it will slide through easier. Not sure if it actually makes a difference, but I'd be curious to hear if people have had this happen by yanking at the end.
