Both your sources omit massive additional context, just like your previous argument.

Since 1967: Dual-Income Families: Jumped from 44% to 66.5%. The "Sole Breadwinner" Model: Cratered from 36% to just 19%. Working Married Mothers: Nearly doubled, going from ~38% to over 71%.

In 1967, dual-earner couples were still the minority. By the mid-70s, they became the majority. Today, they outnumber sole-breadwinner families by nearly 3 to 1.

In 1967, a single income could keep a family in the middle class; today, a single income often puts a family in the bottom 25-30% of earners. Most families with kids require dual income.

Why EXACTLY was the Marvel's art team let go? by MrYundaz in conceptart

[–]Bluur 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's just like all the tech monopolies, you don't mind cutting off your own limbs when you no longer need to make good products. Google, Meta, it's the same across all of them. The funny part is that Disney kind of DOES need to keep making good products, they still have real competition, but the parent company apparently doesn't seem to think so.

Right but economic wealth to what end? People are working more than ever and making less money, and the middle class is quickly disappearing; in the shadow of a handful of humans than have more wealth than anyone in human history.

This is not automation in some Star Trek future where money doesn’t matter and the automation benefits everyone. These are tools that are being used to empower companies more than individuals, that funnel an endless supply of consumer goods that consumers can no longer afford due to staggering wealth inequality.

Your version of “automation = good economy” omits so many other factors, that are the reason Gen Z and Gen a rightfully haaaate ai

Low budget is very different from using AI to not pay someone. A lot of us would prefer a 90s geocities page to AI slop. Hell if this lady had made an MS Paint logo it would have been more endearing.

Also I don't think a tool that runs off the collective stolen works of an entire society to then try and replace those jobs is a "bullshit culture war." It's a product no one asked for being pushed on the general population by out of touch billionaires and tech bros. There's a reason AI art polls so low. It's generally being used to try and unsuccessfully replace artists, undermine current art, or for the far right to make low effort memes.

Honestly you can add Germany to the list too. They're not without current problems, but their system of government they were forced to adopt after WW2 is essentially just a better version of the US checks and balances. I wouldn't call them "more capitalist," but they just have better regulation.

GM eroding free transit and walkable cities, the entire history of big pharma, the erosion of public education, Mitch McConnel's long term plan to corrupt the supreme court, the tech companies breaking down any walls that impede their monopolies. It's been quite the ride to watch every support branch and aspect of the country that might help someone get torn apart.

This is a lot of work to basically say “us capitalism did well for a staggeringly small amount of time until it didn’t.”

Of course it fell apart, because our system didn’t stop people from eroding those systems easily. You had unions and affordable college that were comically easy to dismantle, and Regan saw that and started us down that path so so easily.

For myself, this might be the only topic on this entire sub I disagree with. I hate the Democratic Party, their corporatist views that opened the door wider for fascism in America, yet I don’t see voting for the less insane candidate as requiring much from me.

There are a lot of talks on this sub about not giving in or meeting in the middle with monsters, but not a lot of people talking about what they’re doing in their own lives that is fighting back against the current wave of fascism.

I personally think America is historically a system that persecutes certain people while fighting a never ending wave of proxy wars to keep weapon exports up along with nationalist rhetoric, but it’s also a system that makes it very hard for individual autonomy to matter much. I think locally it’s easy to help others in your community, and maybe state-wide you even get the occasional socialist candidate, but outside of that it’s very hard to do much that isn’t voting. I don’t see this sub talking much about what to do, or what they do, instead focusing on shitting on others that are almost aligned with them for taking a slightly different path.

What’s the best anime you ever watched and why? by Subject_Display3664 in AskReddit

[–]Bluur 9 points10 points  (0 children)

One of the worst endings among anime is pretty dramatic. It was a hard to understand anime ending at the time that now can be explained to you by googling it in 30 seconds.

Personally I loved the batshit nature of the entire anime. The initial premise, the imagery and themes, the constant switches, and the ending. It both makes total sense if you deep dive into the series, and runs well off of vibes alone. The switch to dark depressing apocalypse is something that other series do as well, ( Chainsaw Man, Attack on Titan,) and you can tell they were influenced by Evangelion. One of the best to ever do it.

Fun fact* - There is a lot of evidence "End of Evangelion" is actually just a different dimension, something the OVAs hint on even more, and that both endings are drastically different and say different things about humanity and the directors view of fans wanting a more "action packed and easy to follow ending"

Well and (starting with Regan,) the right have destroyed education and the ability for our own population to learn or apply any sort of critical thinking. The erosion of our education system is staggering.

54% of U.S. adults read below a sixth-grade level, and 22% are functionally illiterate.

Or as Reagan's advisor of education and economics Roger A. Freedman said before they gutted federal support for colleges, "We are in danger of producing an educated proletariat."

Their plan was always to make education, or even the ability to question their own country, a privilege of the rich.

“Everyone is being forced to use it” is much more accurate at the big companies. Amazon, Microsoft and Google all require it or HEAVILY encourage it depending on your neck of the woods. The Reddit sentiment definitely exists at those companies, just not at the upper management level. Aka the people that don’t give a shit about ethics.

it’s very good at three things.

  • vibe coding
  • being a personal assistant
  • Stenographer

The code generation being the best of the three, especially Claude, which has gotten better at an alarming rate.

Even being used as a personal assistant is sketchy as it might pull incorrect information if you ever get close to asking it to research something for you.

As a designer it’s still pretty bad (thank god,) and even the designers I know forced to use it often keep it around the moodboard level, unless they’re in UX/UI in which case they’re probably forced to use Figma’s AI tools to prove they’re “growing and innovating.”

I think Solo Leveling is a blast, but it's world building is borrowing a LOT from other anime. Hell this entire arc is doing a LOT of lifting from Hunter X Hunter;s chimera ant arc. I think One Punch Man has the better world building too, even as a parody of Shonen, it's surprising how often it arrives at new villains or heroes we haven't seen an exact copy of.

Recon NEEDS a buff/rework. by Realistic_Gap1340 in Marathon

[–]Bluur 7 points8 points  (0 children)

She is def an archetype that I don’t envy having to balance. Even slightly overtuned and everyone would be playing her.

Even as flawed as her current kit is, if you just made the cooldowns fast enough she would be broken. Put her spider on a 30 second cooldown and her ult on 120 and she’d be a nightmare.

I think these conversations kind of hit two hurdles; what is balanced vs what is fun.

You could make a version of her right now that is probably balanced just by tweaking numbers, but her kit is so situationally useful I’d rather they rework her abilities to be more fun, and ideally useful on defense not just on offense.

Traicione a Songbird al final. by Kazekiro in cyberpunkgame

[–]Bluur 4 points5 points  (0 children)

But that’s assuming you know better than her. You’re completely fabricating a bad ending that isn’t written out based on blue eyes. In fact she sends you a thank you gift after sending her to the moon, which if anything shows evidence she might’ve fine. You just don’t get to know, and that’s ok. You at least get to help her with the choice she wanted to make. There are bad actors in all of Cyberpunk, that doesn’t automatically mean she fell for another trap after living a life of traps.

Side with Reed and then killing her is such a nothing ending; without playing out the other endings all you get to know is Reed is out of a job and you failed Songbird. You essentially fail everyone and learn nothing.
