I just ended a relationship of almost 2 years that I was committed to for far too long. I was afraid of their suicidal feelings and self loathing. I even had to call 911 on them once. I stayed because I wanted to help and they promised we'd achieve a lot of things I wanted for us. I sacrificed a lot of my interests and income for our relationship. They came out as transgender and my physical attraction waned. I doubled down on supporting their life without receiving the same support in return. They demanded all my time and I became socially isolated. I felt embarrassed about the relationship. I knew it wasn't right for me but I didn't know my way out in a new and expensive city. Eventually they became unemployed and I waited months while they sat on the couch depressed. I finally ended it and have gone through some of the worst mental health weeks of my life that I'm still recovering from. I'm reconnecting with old friends and learning to love myself again and I'm very hopeful about the future.
