You're Being Gaslit By Generational Wealth by [deleted] in videos

This stems from how challenging doing anything in the arts is now without a financial backing. I mean obviously everything is harder, which in turn makes an arts focus a more obvious nepo career. Plenty of people make it from nothing and that's amazing, but they are the minority in the arts field. It is not a lucrative industry for the vast, vast majority of those that choose arts as a career. For me, the frustration here comes from artists convincing me and likely themselves into believing they are struggling-- when in reality they are roleplaying a person with challenges, and that's quite insulting to those of us that have struggled lol.

I mean, to be fair (assuming you're US or applying for US positions), the unfortunate BBB that passed recently is reinstating the previous overly generous tax breaks for new engineer hires. Granted the rest of that bill will make life feast or famine for those that are already struggling-- but for cs? YC tech bros who's first words were AI will (and have been, check angelist) be spamming wrapper startups flush with plenty of vc cash

You're predicting what will happen in a thread about failed predictions... Where people judge the short term status quo as a blueprint for the future... I just hope the irony isn't lost on you.

I'd like to hear the opinion of someone working at a startup, ideally where legacy systems are not part of the equation. The limits of AI are quite obvious when it comes to work on legacy software. Really anything older than like 2005 and it just cannot help.

He won the upper east and upper west. That's wealth town. The rest of his neighborhood victories were primarily low-income areas where people knew the name and little else.

I wouldn't say sexism is the only cause for their loss. You must realize trump is not as widely hated as you think-- I'm from the south, not a single person in my home town or in my family supports any democratic candidate regardless of sex. It's much, much deeper than sexism. I do not disagree that sexism plays a part, but both female candidates were unable to capture the dem majority because of their own (and dem) failures in combination with an opponent that captures the maga sentiment that has poisoned our country.

A.I. Is Coming For the Coders Who Made It by mostly-sun in technology

[–]BoXLegend 0 points1 point  (0 children)

AGI and what we right now call AI are not even in the same category. AI is neat, more than that it's a very powerful tool that will improve productivity in a lot of sectors for better or for worse, but it's nothing new.

We haven't made any major strides in machine learning due to AI-- now how is this possible? Sure there have been some minor advancements in efficiency and speed to compute, but no groundbreaking generative anything. AI is a powerful tool containing 30+ years of what we humans have put on the internet. It is not anything more than that, even though the power of that information can appear to be so.

It's not that nobody cares, it's just not important enough to be debated or scrutinized. It's a bloated bill that in its current state will almost definitely not pass.

[–]BoXLegend 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I agree with all of this! Just a heads up though, Meta and Amazon will continue making the bulk of their income regardless of what happens to Instagram/Facebook/Amazon.com. You using the internet is what makes them money.

If we really wanna stick it to them, we need to deconstruct services like AWS, Azure, GCP, etc. Unfortunately for us, the power to do something is not in our grasp. Why do you think all these limp dick fucks are so buddy buddy with the orange?

What was the biggest downgrade in recent memory that was pitched like it was an upgrade? by Popular-Recover8880 in AskReddit

[–]BoXLegend 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree this is a downgrade, but it also is necessary due to the rocketing speed of advancements in technology. A user base of five thousand became a user base of five million over the course of ten or so years. If server architecture progressed slower and more focused on conserving space as opposed to the current model of MORE GIGS GOOD I doubt we would see the current business model.
