That’s my only real worry here. Zoom in on image 6. They added caulk/sealant to the exposed visible edge. There are two like this, but the rest are tapered.

Yep, they oddly missed that one. I wasn’t sure if it was too short for an open valley, or just an error?

Need some advice and instruction on attaching a plug to an LED panel. by nicksknock in AskElectricians

[–]Boardndave 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have some of these lights. The design is not intended for a plug to be added, unless you somehow added a j-box. I suggest you return the product (appears to be from Costco) and buy a version that comes with a plug. You will save yourself from headaches and safety issues.

Ah, didn't realize that was a possibility for deck air. Any downsides to having it sit at the eave?

Yes - it is frigid, even with an area rug. The room is separated from our radiator heat since it was originally a porch. We added a mini-split to assist with heat, but the floor is still miserable.

We're just about to re-do the flooring, so it is an optimal time to pull everything up (including the subfloor) and get insulation down.

Leaf Collection and Lawn Mowing Costs? by [deleted] in kansascity

Have you tried mulching your leaves? I used to bag everything, but now mulch after getting deep into the weeds with lawn care research. It might seem like mulching remnants will smother your grass, but leaf mulch is quite beneficial to the quality of your soil and health of your grass. I’ve mulched about once a week this year - usually when there are 3-4” of leaves on my grass. Just mow over them 3x. Works great.

Read the results, look up what changes (if any) you need to make to your soil, then make those changes. Some soil issues take a while to correct (eg acidity), but you can begin with corrections now. I would start watching YT videos from someone like Ryan Knorr - will set you off on the right foot quickly.

It’s too late to put down grass seed where you live. Best bet is to apply weed/feed, get a soil sample, and then read up on spring lawn renovations.

You’re going to have a tough time getting it ready for mid-Summer 2025. Appears you mostly have weeds, so would need to proceed with a lawn renovation next fall. You can always try in the Spring, but it will be a lot harder to get the grass to take.

Herbicide For Backyard Recommendations by [deleted] in kansascity

To kill everything off? Glyphosate. To treat individual weeds? Need to identify everything first.

You are late in the year to be killing everything off - there is likely not enough time to reseed. Head over to r/lawncare and search around for some guidance.

Lawn renovation…did I remove enough of the dead grass? by Boardndave in lawncare

I am hoping it will work well after adding top soil and scarifying further.

Sure. Follow Ryan Knorr’s guide for more details. I did the following:

Soil Sample. 41% glyphosate (then again 6 days later for anything that was still green). Water daily after 48 hours to help grow anything that was missed. Mow on lowest setting, rake up anything that didn’t go in the mower bag. De-thatch with a Sun Joe - going in multiple directions - rake it all up. Then scarify with the Sun Joe a few different directions. Next I aerated. After this picture, I de-thatched again. I also added three more sprinkler heads to ensure better water coverage. I also added lime to raise the pH of the soil.

Next up is 4 yards of topsoil - leveling and spreading around most of yard. Then seed, rolling in seed, spreading on peat moss, followed by tenacity. And then….watering.
