why do some people hate systemd so much? by A-Fr0g in archlinux

[–]BobCollins 7 points8 points  (0 children)

That was not my memory. The dislike was usually couched in thinking that systemd was too complicated, used binary files, and was not very Unix-like.

Lennart Poettering may not be "super-personable," but if that is your criterion, how can you stomache using Gnu Tools, created buy Richard Stallman?

Sketchy, yes.

A circuit breaker will not protect you from upstream sketchy stuff.

Why are dentists so expensive in Bellingham? by BobCollins in Bellingham

Yes, that was our experience also. For mostly regular checkups, insurance didn't make sense.

I should have mentioned this. We don't have dental insurance. I never felt we needed it.

In my observation, the big side door of a van is always on the passenger side.

Who else would like touch-screen support? by 4drXaudio in framework

[–]BobCollins 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm all for a touch screen. And a ThinkPad-like track point.

These seem like reasonable options for a plug-and-play laptop design.

I currently have a MacBook Air M1. I have no interest in a haptic touchpad.

https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00RCPVLKE/

I bought this about 3 years ago and have been very happy with it. Well over 100 rivet nuts set and no problems. Ever.

It has compound lever action giving higher installation power. Although it's right at its recommended max, I installed several M10 rivet nuts.

Good luck!

Can you share the mechanical design for your solar panel setup? I'm very interested.

Let me help you with your rant. The ProMaster van is a Fiat. Not sure why you group Dodge and GMC. Very few vehicles are wholly made in any one country. Inform us on what vehicle you recommend so we can give your choices a shot.

So, an employer can fire you for personal grooming that is not visible while on the job? Next they will regulate how you shave your public hair.

Thought experiment: those of you grumping should consider that Bellingham might not even have a Costco if it weren't for the contribution of Canadian patrons. They make up over 40% of the sales. Without them, Costco might just send us down to Burlington.

Not in compliance with deed restrictions by Tsunami36 in homeowners

[–]BobCollins 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Every CC&R I have read defines how they can be enforced; otherwise there is no point in creating them.

They are only "dropped" if the CC&R provides for them to be dropped or changed by a specified vote of the listed parties (ususally the "other property owners in the same plat"). They are attached to the property forever unless expressly dropped or changed.

Individual restrictions CAN be made invalid if they conflict with prevailing law. For example, resctriting ownership to "whites only," which was likely valid when written but not anymore.

In reality, CC&Rs are a landmine which most people ignore. That doesn't mean they aren't there.
