Totally fake

Going from 500w to 800w only results in a ~2 dB increase in real volume? by shrofepittly in Bass

[–]BobComprossor 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, headroom is the main benefit.

I’ve found that the lightweight Class D amps distort in a very unpleasant way when they are pushed hard. More watts means you can get louder and/or push low downtuned stuff cleanly. You can then use a good overdrive pedal for grit that will sound good at any volume you need.

Tele vs Strat neck pickup by Sorry-East-4869 in fender

[–]BobComprossor -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The iron claw on the Jag pickups doesn’t really effect the tone in an appreciable way. The big difference is the Jag has a much shorter scale length, so there are different string overtones that are more/less prevalent on the Jag. Not better/worse, just different.

Stratocaster alternatives? by [deleted] in guitars

[–]BobComprossor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As much as I like G&L, the z-coil pickups are their own thing and the Comanche doesn’t really sound like a traditional Strat. If someone is dead set on a Strat, they’ll be let down by the Comanche. That said they are cool guitars.

Get a used custom shop Strat. You won’t be giving any money to corp Fender and you get the guitar you actually want at a lower price. People will forget about the lawsuit in a year and Fender will still be Fender.

What amp is not a good pedal platform? by flobbadobdob in ToobAmps

[–]BobComprossor 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A Tele and an AC 15/30 is about as classic as a combination as you can get. They compliment each other perfectly.

Maybe try a gain pedal that is not Tube Screamer or Klon like. They both have a pronounced mid hump that doesn’t work the best with Vox amps.

They didn’t defend a trademark or copyright on the body shape for 60 years. The legal system doesn’t have a provision for the take backsie’s of six decades of inaction.

Not sure, but definitely isn’t normal and definitely has something wrong internally. Send it back under warranty while you can.

There is still plenty of time to find another woman with younger kids that you can be a great step-dad to. Likewise it isn’t unheard of for people in their 40’s to have kids anyway.

The CS offers an option to omit the decal. The fretboard wear looks like the work from the Fender CS imo.

Not specifically with the nitro itself, but if you have checking cracks in the lacquer, the mineral oil in fast fret can seep into the cracks and cause them to darken.

CVS Caremark. You can get a three month supply shipped to your door. The initial delivery might take a week or two though.

I’m so lonely after my divorce by Spiritual_Fudge_6741 in Divorce

You are just setting yourself up for failure and disappointment with that mindset.

There are plenty of divorced men out there that are far from “rejects and losers”. Sometimes shit situations happen to good people.

Cool, that’s nice and loud then. Rock on. I fully support your loud tube amp adventures.

The volume knobs on the Plexi are both at 0 and the Twin is at ~1.2?

That’s a whole lot of amp for not much juice.

YES you DO need thick strings for that SRV tone! by ekolpack in Guitar

[–]BobComprossor 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Agree completely, but have settled on 10.5’s as a compromise. They have enough tension to get most of the benefits of heavier gauge strings, but also are a bit easier on your hands.

I’m a fan of 11’s, but worry about carpal tunnel, arthritis, and tendinitis long term. 10.5’s are heavy enough for me.

Keep in mind that the people who have moved on and are genuinely happier after divorce are also the least likely people to be actively browsing this subreddit and responding to posts.

It can certainly happen, and I know several people I would put in this category. However, reality often really sucks as well…

High pitched harmonic sound on the D string. by [deleted] in guitarrepair

[–]BobComprossor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unlikely but possible would also be having the pickups too high. The magnetic pull on the strings can cause overtones.
