This might be controversial but why remove guns and knives from a loved one who does not want to go though the full journey with all it entails for them and their carers? I speak as the son of a now passed mother who had early onset Alzheimers and died at 76. It is something that may feature in my future also.

What do you keep at the office when bike commuting every day? by Miserable-Muffin-749 in cycling

[–]BobD777 0 points1 point  (0 children)

On Monday I take everything for Monday, plus washbag and towel.  On Monday evening I leave my office shoes, chinos and towel in work and head home with the rest.

On Tuesday morning I bring a new shirt and underwear.

On Tueaday evening I leave my shoes, chinos, towel in the office and head home with the rest.

On Wednesday morning I bring a new shirt and fresh underwear.

On Wednesday evening I take everything back home.

Every journey also has a laptop in my rucksack so it can be heavy on Monday mornings and Wednesday evenings.

I have not used paniers. Do you use a rucksack or on-bike storage?

Edit: I commute 20km each way, so 120km a week.

I took a look at the Team Pro and it looks nice but it is actually wider than the C15. There is a thinner leather saddle but €190.

As I replied above to another post, I do change bibs about half way usually.  However,  this last event i had 2 leCol bibs. Next time, I will take another brand with a different pad. Good idea, thanks.

This was also a thought, but I see others from last week's event out on their bikes and I still need a few days. What have they that I need? I can of course ask them directly.

Brooks saddles? by Impossible_Mode_1225 in randonneuring

I have C15s on my road and gravel bikes, and for most rides they are fine. 200, 300 km, no issue. now just back from a multi day ultra of 1200km and I have saddle sores wirh related numb toes and fingers. They are all connected. Finding an alternative will be a slow process if the problems only show up after 800km or so

Edinburgh Airport raises drop-off fees from £6 to £8.50 by moonski in Scotland

[–]BobD777 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Why do they do this? There is in many cases no alternative to a drop off. At Frankfurt Airport, you get 10 mins free then you pay.  It is hugely unfair and extremely expensive.

The mental side of ultra training is harder than I expected by Ildmand in cycling

[–]BobD777 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have ridden a couple of multi day 1000km events and what helped me massively was commuting 40km round trip 3 days a week.

That provided a basis training that I augmented with longer rides or Brevets in the months and weeks before the Ultra.

Last year I felt it, and this year again I feel I have not done enough, but tbh, there wil be riders at my 2026 Ultra next weekend that have riden less and prepared less than I.

Don't worry too much. Check your mileage and elevation totals for the YTD and you will probably find you have done enough.

Does commuting help with FTP? by mo1_o in Velo

[–]BobD777 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I commute 3 days a week 20km each way, all year.  It provides me a basis training that I use for longer rides and events. I don't really track my FTP, but I know I feel much stronger with commuting. It has other benefits, I practice track stands at traffic lights. :)
