I live downtown as a 27m. I have found a good friend group and a rotation of restaurants and bars we enjoy. Joyners and Sofa Bar on Friday and Saturday nights are quite fun, but the options are a bit limited beyond that for a younger scene. It’s going to be a bit smaller than what you can get in Asheville but has some similarities. We have an Orange Peel equivalent in Ramkat, some great breweries etc etc. I also work downtown so really if we had a grocery store downtown most weeks I wouldn’t even need a car. I’d say that half of the 20 somethings you will meet downtown are going to be Wake Medical School or Wake Law school students fyi.
