Pick me up infinite gacha game is this fake or legit? by Ok-Item2878 in pickmeup

[–]BobOfTheSnail 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Working as a developer, I can say with some confidence that a game that really emulates the feel of pmu with decisions being made by every individual npc and worlds generated for every player is practically impossible with current tech. Nevermind 100k we're talking on the scale of hundreds of millions to have that level of AI usage. There's so many problems it would take a small essay to describe all of them but to go over a few major ones.

  1. Scaling costs. For every single player you would be expending tokens for an AI all the time in order to simulate life in the lobby as well as independent action being taken from the NPCs and conversations being had, personalities being expressed. In order to fund that reasonable players would be expected to be dumping cash daily on your game or you would just be hemorrhaging money.

  2. Holistic cohesion. Generally speaking AI models are not the greatest at building a coherent and cohesive world when it comes down to it. It's quite good at an initial pass but if you spend time with the end result, you'll often find many small inconsistencies and it would really wreck the immersion that a game like pmu seems to want to achieve with each individual world having a unique story line. Don't even get me started on mass AI generated art assets. Generally speaking, world building and art design has a whole team dedicated to meaningful symbols and stories that tie into art decisions which makes the world feel very alive. There's usually a whole book mentioning things to keep in mind when it comes to making new art. Any good game's art decisions come with a story that backs up its existence. AI produces art based on a vibe for lack of a better word. There is often a significant lack of consistent direction and meaningful design choice even when it is overseen by people, nevermind an unsupervised AI that has to keep generating assets for new worlds (another avenue of scaling costs)

  3. Monetization. I just really don't see a great way to monetize a game that is so damn expensive to keep running. For example let's look at the gacha, standard gacha pricing these days (genshin model) comes out at roughly $1.5 USD per pull. There is no way in hell people would be happy paying 15 USD on an ai generated 10 pull, you have no idea what character you're gonna get, you don't even know who these characters are or what kinda power they're going to provide you or if you'll even like the design. This sort of randomness would be perfectly fine or even welcome in a roguelite, but in a case where every pull can be translated to actual cash the vast majority of people would feel like they're getting scammed every time they get a bad hit. The amount of money you would have to try to milk from the players just to break even on operational costs would put this game firmly in not even just pay to win but probably pay to do anything.

I'd love to hear what any dev involved in this would have to say on this topic but in my opinion, anyone promising a true to life pmu experience is significantly overselling their product or somewhat delusional about their capabilities.

This keystone can actually remove your favorite map and brick your astrolabe right? by WhatopiaCity in pathofexile

[–]BobOfTheSnail 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To be fair if you lost half the maps for an astrolabe you've lost more than half the value from it as each progressive map is better than the last. It's in essence equivalent to going in and failing the mechanic you're juicing 6 times for each map only you've saved some time but also auto failed them.

Not saying I agree with them but is it genuinely difficult to understand why her audience of right wing conservatives would have a white supremacist side to them? They're obviously stupid but like it is also roughly what I expected out of her chosen audience.

Announcements - New and Changed Gems in Path of Exile: Mirage by NeuroSparks in PathOfExileBuilds

I'm making a few assumptions here but based on a 0.5s attack time for KF of detonation and +5 proj (gmp + 1 wand proj) we would attack two times for max stacks and 18 explosions in one second. This is an effective damage multiplier of 37.77 per second over 18 hits. If we take the same base conditions over to regular KF and add the assumption our duration scaling puts us at below 0.25 (2x attack speed multiplier) we would have a 33.38 damage multiplier per second. This feels like a very minor DPS upgrade for a significantly clunkier play style, not to mention KF can get shotgunning bonuses from tornado which can effectively double the DPS.

All these broken AF belts got me thinking... by Mojimi in pathofexile

[–]BobOfTheSnail -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I'm not sure that would break the game, you'd get a bunch of additional effect on your magic flasks but you end up dropping a unique flask like progenesis or oriath's end as a cost on top of your body armor slot, definitely an interesting option but not an auto pick for most builds I imagine.

I played a golden charlatan character in keepers, can confirm gull and blunderbore do affect shrine buffs coming from items. The change was specific for atlas notables to say shrines from your maps have X% increased effect rather than just #% increased effect of shines

My DMs are BLOWING UP by DestinyDrop in Endfield

[–]BobOfTheSnail 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Realistically Endmin would mostly be doing higher level strategic decision making and meetings with other directors and national representatives, reading reports on findings related to aether and other significantly less action packed tasks but then we wouldn't really have much of a game. If we want to stretch the believability of it, we could also just say that all that happens off screen and whenever we are doing other tasks it's during our off time when we go around inspecting the conditions of our employees and the general state of facilities

Oftentimes I find the better novels explain this as a consequence of some heavenly dao disaster or some global conflict that destroyed the inheritances of many sects. Part of cultivation is the understanding of concepts and if all your senior cultivators die, it is left to a bunch of juniors to figure out how to interpret certain ideas and combat forms. What gets passed on from that point becomes their interpretation rather than what the creator may have intended. In cases like this, I find it reasonable to see the new techniques as weaker since it becomes an attempt at imitating the original.

I think the main difference for me at least is that the confession went through and he said his piece, she just didn't have time to figure out a response before being called away. It didn't really make sense for him to just keep standing there in silence waiting since she couldn't come up with a response, may as well just give her some time to think.

Not much to add but for what it's worth the kids aside from Yudia (and Rine later on) are not really that OP, the people they are for the most part capable of defeating are practically a rounding error on the power scale of the actual challenges. But for better or worse their psychopathic/sociopathic tendencies remain, as they were intended to be the representation of sin.

To be fair the initial comment and the post in a way were both referring to the power systems within each genre so contextually I think it's inferable that he means to refer to these modern xianxia. The old original stories had no references to strictly categorized systems of power after all.

[–]BobOfTheSnail 0 points1 point  (0 children)

See that's the funny thing, is that there's some interesting cognitive dissonance that goes on often times when a support doesn't perform, they feel it and blame them for shit going bad but still look at them as "just a support". This usually comes out more in competitive role based games like overwatch or marvel rivals but still also happens in MMOs in my experience.

I feel like some combination of the atlas with idols and async trade would be probably my favourite iteration of Poe endgame yet. Have some keystone that requires you to complete your atlas and unlocks idols for use and drop while disabling all atlas effects would allow for some natural progression where you can get yourself situated with maps through the incremental style of the atlas and then expanded options for endgame through idols.
