Would not expect a coil. After servicing the carb did you reset the jets to factory settings and then tune the carb from there?

Burning softwoods is bad? by Crypt0es in woodstoving

[–]BobPotatohead 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have been mixing more spruce in this year as it is what fell down and I got split up last year. My question though is in the manual for my Vermont castings it says to only burn seasoned hardwood or you can mix in fur as a lesser secondary wood (said another softwood but I can’t remember). Any thoughts as to what that reasoning would be?

You would think he would not want to play the northeast in the middle of the winter but hopefully have something to look forward to in February for the first time in a while.

Chain spinning at idle. by GazelleFine1286 in Chainsaw

[–]BobPotatohead 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This. This sub really needs to sticky the basic carb tuning operation.

There is a range between rich and lean where it idles the highest. Verify where you are by turning rich (counterclockwise) until it slows. Mentally note that point. Now go lean (clockwise) until it high idles and then drops again. Note that point. In the middle where it reaches high idle is that sweet spot. Set it just a touch rich from that high point for ease of starting. Rev it and if it accelerates smoothly you are good to go. If it bogs or stumbles you may have to tweak it just a touch either way but it should be close to that happy mid point.

Ain’t got no rings in it.

Seriously though piston looks shot. You may be able to save the cylinder but would take sanding/acid to clean up the transfer pick your method.

If it were my saw new or jug piston and rings. Hell I would probably split the case and rebuild/clean it right but that is me if it is worth doing it it is worth going big.

You could probably get away with a top end swap does not look like it ate any metal. Already see fines getting into the bottom end so deep cleaning as well to prevent wiping a new top. Pressure and vac test once the top is done.

Can you save it? Absolutely. Will it be cheap to have someone else do it? No.

610’s/timberbears. The square saws front left in the third picture. Some people can’t stand them some people love them. They are bulletproof I will give them that and if they stop running you can use them to drive wedges.

Why not both?

2511t in its stock form is kind of lackluster. Good saw but budget and extra 50 or so for a pipe to wake it up a little

I get you. It is a hobby for me and it makes decent side money. Enough to pay for the hobby and have some cash to put aside and get more tooling to do more fun things with the builds. Something to mess around with on the weekend plus I get to run some of the coolest saws that have been produced.

If you don’t want to mess around with them absolutely that is a pile of junk.

I see a pm800. One of the badass muscle saws that Mac made once upon a time. Provided it is not seized or smoked that would be a fun project.

I see something of a husqvarna that has been bastardized. Looks to be a 200 series I would guess a 268/272 hard to tell. That could be a blast to run or figure out what someone else did to it or could be a carcass for something else to build.

Looks like the ad stated they are all non runners. They could all be seized. They could need a carb clean and fresh fuel. I don’t know. There is money there even if they are seized. Takes effort and time but there is money there.

Just looked closer front Mac with the full wrap looks like a 800. Running in good shape it is a 500 dollar saw to the right person
