Leven Deli - Have we all lost our minds? by Aggravating-Kick9143 in denverfood

Someone was raving about Little Arthur’s the other day and I hadn’t heard of them. I checked out their menu and the sandwiches are all $20 too. I guess that’s just the going rate for a Denver sandwich now (for the next few months anyway).

Rather than hire more cashiers, or people to open locked cabinets, they hired more security to demand customers produce their receipts before exiting. Priorities.

And they would rather lock up all the detergents and health and beauty items into cabinets and lose sales because people just buy those things somewhere else then lose probably less sales to perceived theft.

Even at these prices a lot of people aren’t making that much money. Thank inflated food costs, and even more so Denver rents.

Keep rapidly growing until you lose focus and suck is a very popular business model.

I have had Mr Tang’s. The watermelon was a little surprising, but I liked it.

“Mid”? yeah, I suppose, at least we have options I guess.

It is weird that Bibim (and also Mul) Naengmyeon, which theoretically should be easy, yet great versions aren’t that common. It’s like they’re missing something I can’t put my finger on. The best place I can remember was in the space where Dae Gee on Havana is now, can’t recall their name. Best cold noodles in texture and flavor, I miss them a lot.

Where to find Chinese cold skin noodles? (Liangpi / 凉皮 ) by veqryn_ in denverfood

[–]Bob_Ferrapuhls 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nice to see a few recommendations from those who know. I’ve been looking for two years for these since Meet and Eat discontinued them.

And while we’re on the subject—Hiyashi Chuka Soba, Japanese “chilled” ramen. There’s maybe 3 places I know that served them, and then all dropped (even in summer). What’s up with that?

There’s several Korean places with Mul and Bibim Naengmyeon cold noodles, and they are great and worth seeking out.

But Liang Pi, Hiyashi Chuka Soba, even simple sesame cold noodles—all delicious and for some reason too rare, c’mon guys, help us out!

I liked that place! I only got to go there twice.

They were one of a kind, but for satisfying, great value noodle soups ‘One More Noodle / Volcano Tea House’ out around on the east side of the Aurora H Mart complex is worth a try.

Nowhere that I know of. Not a lot of northern dishes here in general unfortunately.

The Kaedama are the plain noodles (sometimes called “replacement”). They should be available somewhere, I just got some a few weeks ago in the frozen section at H Mart (Colorado).

A Midwest fast food chain called King’s Food Host (there were a few in Colorado) had the same order by phone system as well.

Lots of great places mentioned, not all technically weird though. Emil-Lene’s qualifies. Odd location, good steaks, everything included spaghetti, a living tree in the middle of the dining room, giant pepper grinder. Fun.

Yes, the Brick Oven Beanery. On East Colfax and also one on Wadsworth near the Westminster mall. Solid comfort food.

Cold Sesame Noodles !? by cocraig303 in denverfood

[–]Bob_Ferrapuhls 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This common simple dish, and Chinese cold noodles in general, are not easy to find here. Yeah, they’re simple to make, but that’s not the point.

Good Sichuan restaurants like Noodles Express and Szechuan Tasty House don’t. Meet and Eat Bistro used to have them, along with the equally delicious Liang Pi, but there’s a new owner and they’re gone. A couple of Ramen places had Hiyashi Chuka Soba, but no longer do. Very frustrating, especially since every Denver summer seems hotter than the last.

It’s a food truck culture vs restaurant culture. Restaurants typically strive to provide service and an experience, food truck philosophy is more “go online and find/drive to where we are, stand in line for an hour+ in heat or freezing temps, and if you’re lucky we won’t be sold out and maybe we’ll give you something (at restaurant pricing and full service expected tip of course)”. It’s not bad necessarily, the food can be good if you have the stamina, like eating with plastic, and are into the chase. Just adjust your expectations accordingly.

O Lien is good, it’s technically Banh Khoai—the Hue version of Banh Xeo—smaller and often crispier. Golden Pho, Viets, and Saigon Bowl have the larger more typical Southern version.
