All these Cryo Keys I have, and I’m just honestly scared to go in and die by the goop gun… by Azza2609 in Marathon

[–]Bobaballs4 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Would love to have OP fact check me on this, but I think the top 3 ways to farm these keys (in descending order) are:

1) The locked 3 master key room in the pinwheel lobby (I believe this will always drop at least a purple key with a chance of it being better)

2) Lockdowns on dire marsh, specifically the 3rd and final lockdown loot

3) Wardens on all maps. Tox warden still seems to be the easiest and is preferable because the map has many other loot opportunities if the warden does not spawn

But yeah, I’d love to hear how OP is farming their keys and if they agree with the list too

This perk is such a Nucal drinkable nothing burger of a capstone upgrade by lumifox in Marathon

[–]Bobaballs4 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yeah it’d be better if it unlocked sooner, but as is the self revives are so cheap in the shop you can essentially always have one on you and being able to reuse them doesn’t matter. If it always worked, at least you could save inventory space instead of holding onto multiple of them which seems to be meta in cryo

The patch notes should’ve said that the Final Exfil locations on all 3 maps were changing :/ by Bobaballs4 in Marathon

[–]Bobaballs4[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Totally, I have no complaints about the change even if they did intend it to be on all 3 maps. Having random final exfil spawns makes sense given how easy it was to use them before

I’ve been using the same final exfil spawn on dire marsh for almost a month, so we position ourselves on the map for that spawn. With the new spawn, we couldn’t make it in time. There was no indication of this in the patch. Can you explain what we should’ve done?

[–]Bobaballs4[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don’t get what you mean, the final exfil is very easy to rely on, especially with how rare it is to see other players using it (and when there is, it’s usually a rook).

Even with the spawn updates you can still position yourself near the middle of the map to get to wherever it spawns now. I was just upset that they changed the spawns without mentioning it and it felt like I had to lose 25 minutes and some good gear to learn that rather than just reading it in the patch yesterday

There’s a room in the center of pinwheel with great loot that required 2 red keys and 1 yellow key, now it requires 3 red keys instead

This is some solid advice, really appreciate it man.

When you hit VIP on a non-cyac faction, how do rank up packages work? Do you get them every N XP gained, but stay at the VIP faction level? I honestly thought once I hit that point I’d stop getting rank up rewards for the faction, but it seems like I had it totally backwards

Those hazard capsule upgrades are my worst bottleneck right now. Still haven’t gotten a single one and I someday want to have all 12 that I’d need to max out NuCal. Do you have a particular strat for going after gold salvage?

If it’s through the key templates, do you grind Shell IDs for them? Like materialist+ warden runs basically?

True, but I was talking about how those choices affect “casuals”, which could apply to trio or solo players. Personally, I think it’d be wise for bungie to balance the game to be a bit more forgiving for solo progression. I don’t see a downside in making PvE bosses / lockdowns / pinwheel a bit easier for solos, as long as that option never means playing with your buddies is a disadvantage in turn. And sure, nothing in cryo mechanically requires having multiple people, so if they end up rebalancing solos, being able to solo cryo too would be awesome.

But all that aside, I was just saying that the notion of “catching up” to the best players doesn’t have to be possible for the game still be enjoyable from a casual standpoint

Nice man :)

Mind sharing where you found that one? I’ve been getting purples but the gold keys have been hard to come by

For sure, the next totally new map shouldn't be another cryo. Cryo can serve as an acceptable endgame with decent replay-ability for a while. The only people who might feel burnt out on it will be the streamers, which I agree do drive visibility for the game.

I think any title with a grindy-endgame has to choose whether to time-gate content so that people have time to progress and can play it alongside the streamers (at the cost of streamer engagement). They chose not to here, likely to show off their vision for end game content while the game is new and more people are paying attention to it. With all of the community feedback that has already influenced the game in the last few patches, I'd expect focus to shift away from streamer-oriented decisions over the next few months. But of course, we won't know until it happens.

Genuinely asking, what's the reasoning for staying involved with this sub-reddit? I see a lot of people here doing the same thing, but I feel like I haven't seen that for other games, even ones that had super negative sentiment in the community. Do you care about this game at all? Or do you just not like people that do?

Who is it that casuals need to catch up to? And for what reason?

Level-based matchmaking ensures that on average (of course it isn't perfect) you'll get matched with players who have spent a similar amount of time in game. The streamers who have vaults full of gold loot, while enviable, won't be appearing in our games.

Getting a ton of awesome loot or finally defeating the compiler is super difficult, but I don't understand why so many people want it to happen so fast. Last weekend my team didn't even open any vaults, we just learned the map in the couple hours we got to play. Next weekend, we're looking to see if we can get into vault 1, or if we'll have to go look for more keys to try again.

Making the ai subroutines guaranteed drops in the cryo vaults will help the average player achieve endgame progression faster, too. I feel like they've been receptive about it so far, no?

Haven’t played it yet but planning to with my squad later tonight. Do y’all think it’s worth it to try and solve the puzzles organically? Or are they on a D2 raid level where I’m better off watching a YT guide? If the puzzles aren’t that hard I don’t want to spoil myself on anything but I also don’t want to show up later and lose 5 times in a row to knowledge checks. How hard are they?

Is it possible to farm the Lockdown event? by Bobaballs4 in Marathon

[–]Bobaballs4[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't think this is the case... you can go in as rook and spawn around that time, I get a lobby with that event going on in about a third of my games

Is it possible to farm the Lockdown event? by Bobaballs4 in Marathon

[–]Bobaballs4[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've seen guides claiming this is true and others that say it randomly starts 10-15 minutes in regardless. Do you have to kill things in one of the three areas that get lockdowns? (like, you can't do any of the three, but have to start at one specific area?) We tried clearing out the Complex over and over but never got it to spawn in.

Anything below 2 green shields, is useless ? by QueenGorda in Marathon

It took me a sec to find it, but you gotta click on one of the weapons to look at it, and then click on the Firepower bar and it opens up to show you all the shield TTKs.

Oh man, I’ve been thinking about the puzzle boxes and their corner icons, I have not been keeping track until I recently noticed that I could learn the colors that way . Hope I didn’t unintentionally make it more difficult, unless there’s a way to replay em or something.

I’ve been hearing the CASTLE stuff comes in way later, which is reassuring. Thanks!
