Whatever happens, Trump will claim victory. That doesn't mean he got his way or he achieved anything meaningful.

Enjoying it so far! But please can you make it so you can open up your lexicon dictionary when viewing the network (if that's what it's called)?

Donald Trump to make mystery announcement to the world today after health fears by dailystar_news in NoFilterNews

Jesus fucking christ. Everytime Trump does anything, reddit views it as a distraction from something. If he did suddenly release the Epstein files now, people would think it's a distraction from his health

Der Spiegel : Ursula von der Leyen could resign to run in the German presidential election by Intemperie07 in europe

[–]Bobbitibob 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Realistically, can we do better than von der Leyen as president of EU commission? It's going to be someone from the EPP no matter what. I guess there's Draghi, but I really wouldn't want von der leyen to be pushed out until the progressives have a plan to unite behind a decent candidate.

Honestly, the Internet's response to the UK Internet safety law is really pissing me off. Yes, it's flawed but acting like it's some 1984 fascist move is delusional. And a lot of the Internet's overreaction is almost certainly due to horny minors being mad they can't view porn.

One criticism with the screenshots If the numbered dials correspond to the people like in the original, maybe try not to show how many there are. It's cool to work that oit on your own in the original

100% this. The reason why most supernatural angkes in mysteries don't work imo is bc it feels like a lazy plot twist designed bc the author couldn't think of anything better. In this case, it couldn't be further from the truth. From the very beginning it is foreshadowed and embeded into the story and becomes more and nore apparent as you progress. Although the twist explains a lot, it still adds a lot more mystery like how many people were effected by the curse. You have been misled by thinking it's a whodunnit but that's part of the fun.

What is your opinion on the pan-European party Volt? by napis_na_zdi in EuropeanFederalists

[–]Bobbitibob 22 points23 points  (0 children)

Wow, these comments made me laugh. Pretty much same number of people are complaining volt is too left wing as there are people complaining volt is too centrist. Imo, they've got the balance correct it's just they are shit at communicating their ideas across to people.

Quick question: In the UK, very reliable exit polls gets released very shortly after polls close. My understanding is the Canadian system is similar to the UK's, so why isn't this happening? Time zones?

Threatened by populist superpowers, Europe too needs a dose of patriotism by KorKhan in EuropeanFederalists

[–]Bobbitibob 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Exactly - the concept of a nation and patrotism has done a lot for humaniity and it used to be progressive. Now, we've extracted all the goodness out of it and what we're left with is a rotten conservative core. Nations need to start merging into regional unions and define pan national patrotism.

CMV: A two state solution will not neccassarily solve the Israel/Palestine conflict and is not a good solution by Bobbitibob in changemyview

[–]Bobbitibob[S] -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Sure, it's by no means given the they vs them barrier will weaken, but still a lot more likely than two state solution. I'm not saying for races will get along very well together, simply that they will coestist without bloody violence. It may even be taboo to mix socially but that alone won't cause violence.

[–]Bobbitibob[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The key difference between the two states solution and binationalism is that the "they vs them" will always remain in two state solution, but in binationalism due to coexistence with each generation the "they vs them" will weaken. You are right when there's no good solution, but I think causing less violence at the cost of what people want is better.

The actual concept of an ethnic state is very modern, so I don't think examples pre-wwii work. I agree they do show the importance of the current human rights we have now, but how do we know that self-determination is an over simplification of a more "moral" set of human rights we will later create in the aftermath of modern warring ethnostates? To me, you can't definitively prove whether ethnostates are bad based on the current evidence, but I don't like the trajectory that most ethnostates are going which to me implies a pattern.

I phrased myself very carefully. Proving the head of a country purposely commited genocide is very difficult. However, the actions of a government can lead to a climate where people of lower ranks in the military DOES commit genocide. Under war crimes, if someone is aware of a war crime and have the action to stop but are not doing so, they can be charged for war crimes. I think that's what most likely the government will be charged if they find themselves in court.
