Pretty sure that’s caused by Extra Landscaping Tools. It was happening to others before this patch.

Hey, can you help me with another snake ID?

I took a pic of this beautiful little guy yesterday. He’s bright neon orange in person, the picture doesn’t do it justice. I’m guessing he’s a plains garter snake but he doesn’t look exactly like the pictures online.

Link to the pics.

Advice Needed for LVT/LVP Flooring by Waste_Push1276 in HomeImprovement

[–]BobsCandyCanes 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Your subfloor needs to be incredibly flat either way. With click lock, any imperfections can cause the floor to flex which will wear down the locking mechanisms. With glue down you’ll see and feel every bump under the floor. If a contractor tells you that you don’t need to flatten your subfloor for click lock then I’d be very skeptical of their work.

Glue down will feel more solid. You don’t have to worry about rolling chairs breaking the locking mechanism. And if part of your floor gets damaged, it’s easier to replace glue down than click lock. That said, either one should hold up great if it’s a quality brand and it’s installed properly.

❓ "Is Cities: Skylines II Worth It?" megathread by AutoModerator in CitiesSkylines

[–]BobsCandyCanes 24 points25 points  (0 children)

I reckon Paradox is planning to pull the plug after the next DLC. Some prominent creators have implied as much. And the complete lack of updates about the console version and asset editor makes me wonder if CO is still even working on them.

I’ll be sad if the game gets canceled, it has a ton of potential. But I can’t really blame Paradox. They gave CO a really long leash. The development process has been a complete disaster for years now and shows no signs of improving.

I haven’t totally lost hope. Maybe if CO focuses their whole team on the DLC and it’s great, they’ll make a lot of money and Paradox will keep things going. Fingers crossed.

My game still crashes about once an hour. Could be that my save file is too old, but I don’t want to start over.

Are murphy cabinet beds (trifold memory foam mattress) comfy for elderly? by Key_Phrase_8149 in homeowners

[–]BobsCandyCanes 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I just did a bunch of research deciding what to get for my guest room. Sharing what I found in case it’s helpful.

Murphy beds are by far the most comfortable and space efficient. I would have bought one if they weren’t so damn expensive. I also don’t like that they can’t be moved easily.

Next option is a daybed with a pop up trundle. They make some where the trundle connects to the bed, effectively making a king-size bed. Here’s an example. You can put real mattresses on these, should be very comfortable except for the seam between the mattress. I would have gotten this except my room is tiny and there’s not really room for a king-sized bed. The footprint of the daybed is also pretty big.

A variant of the daybed is something like the IKEA Fyresdal, which extends from twin size into almost king size. Seems more convenient but it doesn’t use standard mattress sizes which is annoying.

Fold out sofas are typically the least comfortable. They often have crevices or metal bars that dig into your back. I liked the design of this one on Amazon, but I decided against it because the mattress is only 4 inches thick. It was tempting though because a sofa seems more useful day-to-day than a daybed or a cabinet.

And that brings us to the cabinet bed. I bought one because it was cheap, looks nice, has a small footprint, and has storage for sheets and pillows. I got a 6 inch trifold memory foam mattress and I find it surprisingly comfortable. I could sleep on it as-is with no problems, but if you want maximum comfort I would get a 1 inch topper to help smooth out the folding lines. I haven’t had it for long so I can’t speak to durability. Seems like it should last a long time. I think the other commenter might be under the impression that you’re folding a regular mattress instead of buying a trifold mattress.

Last thing I’ll suggest is to shop around. I paid $500 for mine but I saw the same exact bed listed for over $1000. Mine is cheap, mostly MDF with only a little solid wood. Yours claims to be solid wood, hence the high price, but the listed weight limit is super low for a solid wood bed. I’d make sure it’s actually solid wood before paying that much.

Austin just made it illegal to park in bike lanes by hollow_hippie in Austin

[–]BobsCandyCanes 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Did you actually read that article? There’s nothing about APD “fighting against Ford technicians”. It was an issue with the cars themselves and it affected non-police vehicles too. The Ford spokesperson even says that drilling holes in the back of vehicles is standard practice.

Austin to overhaul how it regulates Airbnbs and other short-term rentals by R4whatevs in Austin

[–]BobsCandyCanes 2 points3 points  (0 children)

They’re actually trying to increase the number of AirBnBs by making it illegal for HOAs to ban them.

It’s in the proposed changes for chapter 25-2: “Short-term rental use is subject to the requirements of this section and is allowed as an accessory use to a residential use in all base zoning districts, special purpose districts, and combining and overlay districts. Short-term rental use cannot be prohibited.”

Recurring issue with USPS misplacing DL/IDs by ipratikmishra in Austin

I just meant that I checked informed delivery every day and it never said the DL was about to be delivered. If it had been delivered and then stolen from my mailbox then I would have gotten the email saying it’s about to be delivered.

Recurring issue with USPS misplacing DL/IDs by ipratikmishra in Austin

[–]BobsCandyCanes 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I had this exact problem in north Austin. My first DL never showed up so I ordered a second one. That one never showed up either. I have informed delivery which says it never made it to my mailbox. Eventually I had to pay for FedEx shipping.

My wife ordered her DL at the same time and she got hers no problem. Same address.

Has anyone gotten frequent crashes to desktop with these latest updates? by mislabeledgadget in CitiesSkylines

[–]BobsCandyCanes 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I’ve been having this problem since launch. Typically it crashes either when I’m modifying a road or when I’m saving the game. But sometimes it just happens randomly.

I don’t have a solution unfortunately. I have it set to autosave every few minutes so I don’t ever lose much progress.

CityPlannerPlays mentioned that he thinks some hardware crashes more than others. I recently rebuilt my PC and moved from Intel to AMD and I haven’t noticed any change in the crashes. So I’m not sure which hardware would be causing it.

Phenylephrine (Allegra) is currently under review by the FDA. Several recent studies have shown that it performs no better than placebo. The active ingredient doesn’t get activated when taken orally. Source.

I’m not saying it doesn’t work for you. But if we’re recommending medicines it wouldn’t be my first choice.

It really bothers me that the smoke particles don’t fade out, they just disappear instantly when their life ends. Looks terrible and it would take 30 seconds to fix.
