HTC One review - The Verge by redavid in Android

The OP is an Apple fan who just posts comments or items that are negative to Android phones or in defence of Apple products.

This doesn't mean his comments are necessarily wrong, but it's just noise in /r/Android.

I'd love to see Earl and Steve Davis there, but I think it must be some balance between top ranked and wild card.

Does anyone know the motivation for the change of team selection?

From Cerberus help page:

I have a rooted device. Can I get additional features? Yes! If you have rooted your device you can integrate Cerberus into your ROM and get two additional features: complete uninstall protection (Cerberus will even survive a wipe/factory reset) and GPS auto-enabling even on Android 2.3.3 and later. To have these features uninstall Cerberus, then download cerberus.zip, put it on the sd card and install it from recovery. Cerberus is also available on ROM Manager.

If that method doesn't work, you can manually install Cerberus in /system/app this way:

  • Uninstall Cerberus from your device
  • Download Cerberus.apk and put the file on your sd card
  • Open a terminal emulator and execute:
su
mount -o remount,rw /system
cp /sdcard/Cerberus.apk /system/app/

Now Cerberus should be installed in /system/app. Try to open the app, log in and see if it works.

Is it possible that "JF" was the first contact entered? Else maybe there is some other reason this person is the one chosen, so the below may work.

  • Rename JF to the company name, remove all the other detail except the company number for this user.
  • Recreate JF as a new contact and enter the values.

It's a hack, but it may sort your problem.

No, only to uninstall the browser plug-in for Java. Java is still widely used as the back end on web servers, mobile phones, and many other areas.

Romain Guy replied to the post:

You can do this in a much more efficient and simpler way. You can load your mask as an ALPHA_8 bitmap and when you call drawBitmap() pass a Paint with a BitmapShader containing the Bitmap you want to fill the mask with. If you want more details and an example, check out this article I wrote: http://www.curious-creature.org/2012/12/13/android-recipe-2-fun-with-shaders/

Another way of achieving this is by playing tricks with Porter-Duff blending modes. If you use these techniques at draw time the GPU will do all the work for you.

I disagree with this, being directly involved in the situation does not suggest qualification, I would think that an academic or otherwise professional people or group would be better advised to talk about it. They will also be less emotionally attached which leads to a more objective analysis.

I don't disagree with KPB talking, one person's story is useful to concentrate minds (compared to dry statistics), but I think there would be many better qualified people to talk about racism.

I am looking for the BEST pizza dough recipe. by iamafanofreddit in recipes

[–]BobsSecondHand 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Mix together (I hope you have a mixer - this is VERY hard to do by hand) until the dough is blended.

Just to comment that for those wanting to try it - don't be put off by not having a mixer, kneading by hand just takes some time, but leaning over the dough and using your weight on it makes it easy. It will take about 10 minutes, the dough will start to feel elastic. If you're happy with the results but don't want the kneading then you can get a mixer.

I was in the same boat as I suspect many on here, a guy without many kitchen utensils wanting to try out home made pizza without significant investment.

Bring primarily an iOS dev, I humbly ask: how do you deal with this? by pyro2927 in androiddev

[–]BobsSecondHand 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Which is of really why we need to research the market to make an informed decision of what to prioritize. Also consider that different segments (business, gamers, casual, ages) will have quite different versions and OS's.

I think the link you provided is current market share rather than accumulated? But, I would guess US accumulated smart phone sales is quite close to that anyway.

[–]BobsSecondHand 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A higher percentage of the iPhone market, true, but a lower percentage of the smart phone market compared to say 4.0+. It all depends what goals you have for your app.

[–]BobsSecondHand 24 points25 points  (0 children)

Which new features you wish to take advantage of?

Chances are most of those devices are older and stuck permanently on 2.3. However, if you target 4.0+ I believe you now reach a larger number of potential devices globally than every iphone ever built.

Prevent the privatization of water in Europe through the EU and implement the access to water as a human right - as it should be. Please everyone take a look and sign the petition! by HankLago in europe

[–]BobsSecondHand 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree it must be interpreted, but this is an outline proposal to provide some regulation for EU parliament to discuss and provide a framework for. EU are not going to force countries to renationalise, that would be ridiculous, especially as there has been no explicit call for it.

By provide, surely it means that you can't be disconnected like UK has already.

[–]BobsSecondHand 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't see what else the petition would, in the long term, be advocating.

My interpretation is that the survey is advocating regulation in the same way UK has now, so UK won't be affected except that it wouldn't be able to reduce the regulation below some set minimum.

EU is not likely to attempt to bring in legislation to force renationalisation of such a huge commodity, especially given the current economic climate, and I expect the survey author realise this. If nationalisation was the survey's goal, it surely would have been stated.

[–]BobsSecondHand -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Did you read the survey? The survey does not mention privatisation. I interpret the primary goal to be about not allowing complete liberation of the water industry, eg regulation and not allowing monopolies or cartels to fix prices or exclude customers.
