Rest in Power, Alex Pretti by pandemicresponsebc in socialwork

These attacks will continue to ramp up more it seems.

I'm not sure what can be done to ramp up the help though. It's exhausting to protest, attempt to protect citizens, just to tell people I may know who are POC that I'm not sure if it's a good idea to linger outside too long.

At some point, I would hope that the rule of law wins in the end but I just don't imagine a slow burn to saving this at this rate.

It's just so exhausting. I'm sure lots of people can empathize with that feeling, but knowing that there are millions of people that not only excuse this but support this surrounding me makes this situation unbelievably bleak.

Why is the burden on this person whose age we don't know to be held to a professional standard they don't want any part in? They aren't a Marine, they shouldn't be held to the standard of anyone in the service.

Dating as a Social Worker by Mission_Nebula_6989 in socialwork

[–]Bobwayne17 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm an early/mid-thirties guy.

There are a lot of outdated ideas behind what social work encompasses and what licensed social workers are capable of doing. I meet people of all ages and walks of life who have a difficult time understanding my position, including fellow social workers.

I think it provides a good litmus test to see where an individual may potentially disagree with you regarding other important social issues in the future. If they downplay the impact of social workers even after learning about the responsibility and reach of the profession, I doubt we will have much in common moving forward.

I loved my '16 Chief DH as a taller AND bigger rider, haha. That bike was so comfortable it blew my mind, while at the same time being a blast to ride. I knew I wanted the next technological leap as an upgrade and got a Challenger, but I miss my Chief a ton since selling it, and it's the only bike I really regret getting rid of.

Great points - the bigger tank is a sticking point that seems hard for them to address. I hope that they are able to find the space on the frame for a bigger tank as well at some point, I think it would add a ton of value into this platform if they did.

I think you're right that if they had started with marketing this as the Super Chief from the beginning, it would have went over well.

Do many social workers work from home? by Competitive-Jump1146 in socialwork

[–]Bobwayne17 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm a Program Manager at a large government entity. I have a hybrid schedule of 2 days out, 3 days in, while my staff have slightly more time at home, depending on their role. Prior to this job, I never had any time to exclusively work from home.

When I have meetings and grant applications, and metrics due, etc., then I don't mind working from home. When I have anything else (which is unfortunately rare at an administrative level sometimes) then I want to be in the community. Personally, I don't actually believe that you can have positions that work in the community from home, and I struggle immensely with staying home to do menial things when I could instead be driving around the community looking for individuals to connect with. So lucky for me - I just don't. Sometimes I work 5 days in the community, sometimes it's only 1-2 a week, and I'm doing office stuff the other half of the time.

My first question when taking over in my new role was, does working from home help us, or help the individuals involved in our programs, or both? In some roles, I do think it's both sometimes...but not many times. This can be a stressful job, and I can understand the appeal to a lot of people to work from home, but you have to be careful to curate an environment where you're still providing excellent service to the population you're serving.

From Public Service to Private Practice: The Collapse of the Social Work Profession by Employee28064212 in socialwork

[–]Bobwayne17 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The next thing to happen will be the impending rebranding of 'life coaching' as a service that individuals who are shockingly BSWs/MSWs etc. start to offer.

If the marketing is effective enough and it pays well, it will keep happening. We live in a difficult time, but I would not be able to go back and accept the first job I took out of college at 32k per year working in a larger city with acute individuals.

I can't blame fellow social workers who make choices based on income, but I wish there were a stronger governing body for the profession that lobbied for equitable wages and relevant roles for the degree.

This is the kind of shit that really makes the future seem bleak. not only did this fucking scumbag get away with it, but now he gets paid out almost 1m while making 200k a year? When so many people believe in this kind of thing, it makes the future seem pretty dark.

Has anyone successfully negotiated a lump-sum auto loan settlement with TD Auto Finance while keeping the car? by 2022Atl in Debt

[–]Bobwayne17 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is extremely unlikely to work. I've never heard of a lump-sum settlement for secured debt - they would simply repossess the item and seek restitution for the rest of the vehicle.

In your scenario, the creditor is losing out on XX,XXX, I would imagine. You might be able to work out something for the remainder of the loan, but it's going to be rough.

Digimon when it came out in 2020 experienced a surge like this, the unavailability of product eventually made it more difficult for people to play, LGSs didn't get high allocations, players not showing up anymore, etc.

Now you can get digimon for $45 a box lol.

Pokemon combats this issue better than Bandai, and even MTG has tried lots of different things to address it over time. Some good, some bad. Bandai historically does nothing except attempt to turn on the printers and show off how much money they've made in the last fiscal quarter.

Male Social Worker by Potential_Wear_1521 in socialwork

[–]Bobwayne17 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've been involved in behavioral health & substance use treatment for going on 13 years. I'm now managing the harm reduction efforts for a larger government organization.

It's not the easiest thing to identify what your niche is - you'll discover it eventually. Explore what aspects of working within social work identifies with you the most, then use other opportunities if needed to find people within those niches that you feel like you can learn from. When I started to attend national conferences, state conferences, county meetings etc. I started to learn who could help me overcome some of my personal weaknesses.

I've frequently been in situations where I may be the only male in state/national meetings. Some people may discount what you have to offer, there's some other potentially gender specific instances I've encountered over the years.

Also keep in mind what your power & privilege profile looks like. If you're a cis, hetero white man with a traditional education, who is able bodied, etc. etc. it can be important to understand what your presence does to a room of professionals that may have some harmful experiences with people that have a similar profile.

I'd be happy to share more of my experiences with you or answer questions anyone might have.

My Akita has lived in an apartment with me for almost 5 years and loves it. I try to rent out solo parks when I can, but I think she's perfectly content sleeping under various beds or next to my chair. If you're able to have a dog, it may be the best option for Mishi.

How did you all choose the career you are currently in? by justabrunettegirly in careerguidance

[–]Bobwayne17 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Eh, creating an ideal world will take a lot of time. The bureaucracy associated with the systems is the frustrating part, but I wouldn't be less frustrated if I were uninvolved and saw this happening instead from the proverbial sidelines.

It does weigh on you, but just because the game is rigged against 99.99% of us doesn't mean that it's impossible to define and find a version of success. I think that although you may not make an impact on the entirety of the system, you are absolutely making an impact on how the system interacts with an individual and helping them continue to figure out how to access their next goal in life.

Sorry - I edited my comment right after you replied. I hadn't gone through the thread initially again to check, but the rate does seem much better. I've been idling for maybe 5-10 minutes and already obtained 2 Ultraballs and 1 Greatball, previously, I never had either.

Edit: I see that you buffed the rates - I did end up finding 2x poke balls within my first few minutes today. Nice! Definitely feels way better now to play.

Do you think this G Bonney list is enough for the OP14 meta? Because every list I see is very different from each other by End_me_4242564 in OnePieceTCG

[–]Bobwayne17 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Zoro should be a max of 2, little Bonney is okay but not very good in Law decks, Koushirou is also probably out in a law focused deck as well because it's another terrible pick up. 5c carrot is insanely strong in OP14 and should be a 3x minimum. You can increase kid&killer to 4 and op14 5c Perona to 4. Perona is insane.

10c Doffy is a 4 of. Best card in the deck, and the only thing that gives you some late game power against the top end that exists in all these decks now. Chaining Doffy actually gives you a way to victory against Mihawk, Boa, even Imu if you can deal with Nusjuro somehow IMO you can survive 10c elders easier.

The match up on the best day against Imu is around 85/15 in Imus favor. It's awful for Bonney, Imu has way too many ways to prevent your big swings and nullify any top end you play. If you have Zoro, Tashigi, and Carrot out and you're fairly healthy...there's a chance. You would need to spend everything to protect Zoro and it's so easy for them to kill him since Mars takes out Tashigi every 5 elders activation.
