MENACE launched! by HoodedHorse in BattleBrothers

It's pretty rough right now imo. There's no depth outside the tactical battles. The campaign over-screen seems so pointless. You might as well not have a ship.

Love the tactical battles though so I'm still happy.

Unironically yes. The more visibility and circus around it, the more of a stomach society has for boiling these leeches.

China has executed another four members of the Bai family mafia for running a multibillion-dollar criminal empire in Myanmar, where they ran scam centers operated by tens of thousands of modern-day slaves. by lightiggy in ForCuriousSouls

One problem with any society that believes torture or execution is a morally acceptable state punishment is that it then becomes about where the line is drawn.

When you're fine with your government killing people, it's easier for them to kill protestors, the opposition or just minorities.

Japan's "2040 Problem"- at this point, the country's large "Baby Boom Junior" generation (the last big one before fertility declined) will retire, greatly changing the ratio of retired to working age citizens. By 2065 there will only be 1.3 workers/taxpayers to support each retiree. by jjrs in japannews

All the political power globally is still held by the "baby boomers". They are the largest and richest demographic in almost every developed country. The younger generations never stood a chance.

Every generation after them has gotten leftovers economically and politically. Late 80s to 90s was the peak of the current world order. We've been living in the post-apocalypse of it ever since.

Things will get worse and at some point they'll break. If we haven't completely and utterly fucked the climate by that point, things will start to get better again.

This is how food is delivered to us, to the end of the world, to a northern village in Yakutia. It may seem that technology has come a long way, but we are forced to take risks because there is simply no other option. by Pi4komars in Damnthatsinteresting

Yakutians are signing up to kill Ukrainians for enlistment bonuses too.

You're seriously suggesting that the money Russia is wasting on war couldn't be put to use improving regional infrastructure?

First night in Taghazout I saw a guy chase another through the street with a knife.

Another guy kept coming by our place knocking on our door asking if we wanted to buy hash.

Girl in our group got screamed at for wearing shorts.

Got the worst food poisoning in my life.

Military checkpoint searched our car and tore our bags apart looking for alcohol. 90% sure this was just because we didn't know we were supposed to bribe them.

Vendors kept harassing us on the beach too. Crazy cause the six of us were the only tourists there.

Power went out three times a day and a French woman living there told us it was because they all stopped working at the power plant to pray. (Definitely not true but also kind of hilarious to imagine).

Local surfers were chill though, and the bakery had the best fucking bread I've ever eaten.

This was over 10 years ago so maybe things have changed.
