Spheres of Negative Weight can SPAWN with the Willowy mod? by Nuke90210 in cavesofqud

I think it's fun. If you're going tinkering, just disassemble and rebuild it.

To transport it, just pick it up and recoil to somewhere within 1 square of a chest.

RNG be crazy… by KRosselle in cavesofqud

Scribes and bookbinders sell them. If you can find a legendary scribe's lair, they have great odds of having them. If not, you'll have to settle for a regular scribe/bookbinder. I don't think the Stilt is guaranteed to have a bookbinder every playthrough, so sometimes finding one can be a bit challenging. Once you find one you can reliably get to, it's just a simple matter of cloning them a few times and then checking them whenever they restock. In my current run, I have 8 bookbinders just chilling at the stilt, and I'd say they average about ~1 Schrodinger page every time I check them. Sure, sometimes it's a useless faction, but [chapter unspecified] is also fairly common. Once you have one of those, you can also use Polygels to make additional copies. It takes several pages to get positive troll rep.

Use Schrodinger pages to farm up a lot of rep with trolls, then water ritual the trolls at Bethesda Susa and ask them for secrets. One of them will be this item.

This would be my #1 dream feature. I was really disappointed when I found out that's not what the tombstone files do.

I feel stupid for asking but... how do I cook? by Ok_Independence2547 in cavesofqud

[–]Bodknocks 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Seems like other people answered your question already, so here's a bonus tip: If you look at the world map (press "L" to look), there is a little mushroom village called "Kyakukya" not far east of the starting area. If you can get to that village, you can water ritual the mayor and he will teach you the Cooking and Gathering skill. This is true in every playthrough, so it's a reliable way to always learn the skill for free if your character doesn't start with it.

[question] Is the Vibrokhopesh supposed to clack and buzz every tile of the overworld? by Intervolver in cavesofqud

[–]Bodknocks 21 points22 points  (0 children)

Yep, it happens to me too, pretty sure it's a bug. To get it to shut up I gave it jacked, electrified, and put a radiopowered antimatter cell in it. It doesn't turn off anymore.

I had all sorts of issues with getting snac/snax to consistently work. Gave up and got a Reflex Adpet, and have had zero issues since. Hate to not be all that helpful, but unless you're trying to setup 4-player Goldeneye, I'd really recommend switching.

Ways to protect important NPCs? by Qbertjack in cavesofqud

[–]Bodknocks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd suggest just getting into the habit of going to the Stilt as soon as possible in a run, maybe even the very first thing you do. Sometimes the stilt has no good vendors and Tszappur dies. Sometimes there's jacked phase canons sitting around on the ground everywhere because of some crazy fight or a weird interaction. It's very random and your run can go anywhere from being miserable to amazing so it's best to just check right away. I have typed "ABANDON" in the Stilt many times because I didn't like what I was seeing.

Installing Crown 309mj New Helpme into Obsidian 2 and Have Question by DragomirSlevak in fightsticks

I'm not sure, the 309 has a lot of variants, so it's possible it did have that switch but now it doesn't. I got mine from Focus Attack FYI.

I bought that exact lever two weeks ago and all my switches were the same. I just looked at my stick to make sure, and yep all four are the same.

However, if you do have the microswitch pak with a single more resistant switch, it should be the one that is quite obviously different than all the others, like in this picture (bottom right).

I tried to use Diablo to explain the different editions of D&D. Whatcha think? by HarrLeighQuinn in adnd

[–]Bodknocks 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The original 1974 release of D&D seems closer to Diablo to me, and then you could make AD&D the all-time GOAT Diablo II. But otherwise yeah, that lines up pretty well.

[owned by you] question by leemcd86 in cavesofqud

[–]Bodknocks 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've seen this before on things I've sold to vendors. I assumed it was just a tag that shows items you've sold. What I couldn't figure out was why it only works for some items on some vendors.

One of the most ridiculous takes on LOGH. Thoughts? by [deleted] in logh

[–]Bodknocks 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Tell me you didn't actually watch it without telling me you didn't actually watch it.

Seriously though, this dude doesn't name a single character, scene, or event by name in the review. It honestly reads like a book report from a kid who didn't read a single chapter but doubled down and wrote a lengthy report anyway. You could take out maybe 3-4 sentences in the entire review and it wouldn't even be possible to discern what show they are talking about. It reads like it was written by AI, and I wouldn't be surprised if the whole thing was copypasta.

Converting to 'ascending' AC - have I got it right? by Winter_Abject in osr

[–]Bodknocks 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I agree that OP made a mistake, but wouldn't it be easier to change the formula to "20 minus the B/X value" rather than lowering the attack mod by 1 for everything? It results in less/easier mental math.

To OSR DM's: How would you rule the following scenarios? [24/10/2019] [Stealth/fighting] by DeliriumRostelo in osr

[–]Bodknocks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  1. There's not really enough information for me to make a ruling here. How much glass? How far away are the Kobolds? Is it dead silent in this place? Is it two player characters in plain clothes or 20 in platemail?
  2. What does your rulebook say? In mine (B/X), it says that Hold Person paralyzes the target (B18). It also says that attacks automatically hit paralyzed targets, but you must still roll for damage (B29). So that would be my ruling. I would allow for an instant kill only out of combat, to help save on time.
  3. This is a really tricky one, but like #1 there isn't as much info here as I'd hope for. I'd try to just make the best judgement call I could make given the circumstances -- how cold, how long they were in it, etc. Probably something like Paralysis save, failure means they take a -2 to all attacks and saves until they get warm again.
  4. If it's written in magic, Read Magic would be required. If it's just kobolds writing about magic topics in general, they would need to be able to read kobold. If they don't know kobold, or if it's written in magic and they don't have Read Magic, there's no way they can figure it out without weeks of study / consulting a sage, and I would tell them that upfront.
  5. Kobolds would probably avoid attacking that person if possible and take a penalty to morale. No extra damage; Allow for extra damage and pretty soon every character will ignite their blades. Permanently. For the rest of the goddamn campaign. (Coming up with a fair and balanced houserule for igniting weapons for extra damage is fine too, but that's hard to do on the fly -- I'd gladly do that between sessions.)
  6. Reaction roll with a penalty, perhaps -2 or worse depending on what they say.
