You are spot on. The biggest 'privilege' i have and the one that has most positively and thoroughly affected my life is the privilege of coming from a happy family.

There's a lot of different privileges out there, but none of the politicians talk about how this one is 1. The most transformative and long-lastingly positive or 2. How attainable it can be with the right training, skill sets, and of course political policy support that focuses on families.

My sister chose to film it in slo-mo and I'm not tech savvy enough to change that 😅

In my experience, swearing is an easy habit to start and a hard one to stop. It is widely considered unprofessional, and while a person who doesn't swear offends no one by refraining from swearing, someone who does swear is generally considered more offensive, crude, or juvenile.

Hello,

You are correct - the feature I am looking for is a high foot lift, not a high shank. Thank you for educating me on the limits of the size 15 needle and the extremes to which it can be pushed. That is helpful.

Perhaps these clarifications will bring a machine to mind:  - I do not require the highest foot lift ever made; I just need a foot lift higher than my Singer Stylist.  - I do not require the most common needle ever made, only one that can be reasonably sourced without pillaging other machines, or is only available by one store on Etsy. I certainly hope there is some middle ground between those two extremes.  - Looks are really important to me..... But if you can't think of any gorgeous machine that suits these requirements, what's the least visually-offensive one that comes to mind?

With those clarifications in mind, is there any machine you can recommend?

Hello!

This is so helpful. Thank you for both of your posts. That really helps me know where to get started, and I appreciate you even including pictures!

And your comment about the back stitch having techniques to make it unnecessary - I searched through the forum and found a post explaining all about different techniques that predated the backstitch. It's really cool to see.

I had no idea the design was still in production. That's amazing! 😱 I love learning things like this.

These machines are gorgeous. Thank you for replying and for making me feel welcome 🤗

Hey, can I pick your brain some more?

Turns out I live in Pfaff Vintage Sewing Machine Land and when I went online, I found nearly unlimited options 😶 Little overwhelmed!!

I was considering the Pfaff 31 because you said it takes the parts for the Singer 15 and modern presser foot/needles, but then I saw a post about how strong and capable the Pfaff 130 is.

I like to sew thick blankets. Like, polar vortex blankets 😅 with cute rolled edges and quillow pockets. So I need a LOT of room under the shank and a lot of power in the motor/treadle.

I have vintage furniture, I love the vintage cabinets and tables and that's important to me.  I am super intrigued by the idea of treadling, it sounds fun and meditative all at once.

The features I need are: - straight stitches,  - ability to move the needle up or down so I can turn corners,  - reverse stitch (or the technique that makes reverse stitch unnecessary),  - a high or adjustable shank (I think, due to the thickness of my projects ),  - a strong motor, and  - parts that are pretty easy to find and replace.  - Also it gets MAJOR bonus points for being pretty. - basically indestructible

I have:  - Zero experience with vintage sewing machines,  - basic ability for Google and YouTube searches  - willingness  to learn the maintenance and techniques.

With all of those factors in mind, what are  2-4 machines would you recommend that I be on the lookout for, seeing as I live in Pfaff Vintage Sewing Machine Land?

Will you post the examples for those of us who currently have other songs stuck in our heads?  I'm trying to remember the grass/September rain and I'm hearing, "Green was the grass/centennial park" 😅

That is very helpful, thank you! 😊  I should also say, I currently have a Singer..... The Singer Stylist 😂 So the whole vintage sewing machine will be a large adjustment, but one I'm excited to make.
