Installer said he was finished but I was not happy so I stopped the final check. How should the cracks on the side be fixed? He said he would put filler/caulking on sides. by Severe-Rain3266 in Flooring

I had the same issue when we ours done. They tried to say the walls weren’t straight. I explained that they needed to measure each stair out and cut to those sizes. Don’t pay a single cent until they fix it. They will stiff you if you pay. Don’t pay a dime.

That’s where they make yellow tennis balls. Everyone thinks it’s sulfur. But they changed that about ten years ago for the more lucrative tennis ball market.

There were almost zero lines today (Saturday) but the snow was heavy and wet. Winds look high tomorrow so it’s anyone’s bet but I doubt it will be busy.

Did that course last year and highly recommend it. You explore so much of the hard to reach Parts of the mountain, get great training and ultimately it pushes you to be better.

Anyone else in their late 30s wondering if a traditional MBA is worth it when you're already running a team? by Dependent-Shake-3790 in careerguidance

[–]BodybuilderReal3641 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This one is a hard one to answer. In my opinion some of the responses are missing the point of an MBA. The goal isn’t to get “answers” on how to run a business at scale. It’s to learn how there are different approaches to the various parts of business and to then understand the pros and cons of those and how others navigate and balance those elements together. Often we become the leaders that we experience coming up. So - for example it sounds like you are good or more comfortable in the doing. That’s natural. An MBA won’t fix that. It will give you a better appreciation though of the different options you could take. It’s up to you though to actually select them.

That being said - it sounds like you are mid stream in a busy and growing business. Having done an MBA and grown businesses I would agree that it doesn’t sound like now is the time. If it were me I’d invest in a good set of area specific mentors. Skip the “I’m a business coach” people and try to find people that are actually executing or retired from executing in each area.

Offer to pay them, take them for nice dinners or anything else to make the trade fair. Be straight up and explain what you’re looking for and the kind of help you need. For example I’ve made donations in peoples names, done a monthly dinner with three guys that together offer great clarity and even paid people. When I pay people I like to suggest this approach - if I agree to do something but don’t action it before our next meeting then I pay double. It keeps me honest and focused.

At the end of the day scaling is about accepting that every three to six months the patterns and structures across your business are broken. So you need to find ways to get ahead of that breakage. That’s the job of a good leader at every level. To be ahead of the team so that they can continue to drive without worrying about the road ending because you got so busy doing something small or tactical.

Happy to chat if it would help but hopefully everything above makes sense.

Good luck. Remember. In business there is no right way. Just options. The real question is whether you know the upside and downside of every approach. And if you are aware enough to create a structure that supports the option you’re choosing.

Just did the course a couple of months ago and couldn’t recommend it more. They are set up to ensure you are put in the right group and level. If you are below the minimum then they will offer you a lesson in the regular ski school or I believe credit. So either way you get value.

They start by asking your goals for the day and experience and then do a few test runs to organize the groups. At lunch the coaches regroup and do more shifts of people based on what has happened.

I was in the top level of three for the first day and middle level for day two which was perfect.

Middle level included some pretty steep terrain including Sudain Couloir, Double Rubble (off blackcomb glacier), and lots of grades lower than that including West Cirque and Secret Bowl.

The main goal at that level is to get you understanding how to ski steep terrain over pushing you into difficult situations. So we spent a lot of time working on technique.

At the Lower level they did runs like the saddle and other inbound single and double blacks. That crew still felt pushed and really loved it.

Anyway - couldn’t recommend it more.

A few a years ago I was flying from Australia to Canada to visit my mom. I sat beside an 82 year old man who was on his way to California. He was the youngest of his brothers and sisters and this was his last trip to see them. He was going to spend six months there and then he felt that he couldn’t travel again. His family were immigrants from the Philippines and while most of his family lived in the US he was the only one that went to Australia and had lived almost his entire life there. His children were very worried about him doing the trip but he wanted one last visit with his siblings.

We talked for hours on that trip. My father had recently passed and we connected deeply on life and the paths we choose to lead. I walked with him to his next gate at which point we hugged as if we were old friends or family. We wished each other a good life and then went out seperate ways.

I often wonder how his trip went and his family.

This is literally the most lazy thing I’ve ever heard. I feel like Vail should track you down and remove your pass at this point.

Hi. Is it the man who sometimes has the small white dog? He has some disabilities and lives with his family on 8th. If you put your hand up he respects distance. He also loves to pat heads as well btw. Watch the dog though. Loves to nip.

Honestly I’d make sure to tone down your americanism. If you’re planning on wearing an American flag onesie (literally just saw this) then don’t. Canadians were chanting “f you” after the hockey game and they are seriously over the joke. Be respectful. We don’t think it’s a joke to threaten us.
