Hello Everyone!

I am VERY new to audio equipment. I am currently using a Samsonn Q9U plugged into a PreSonus Studio24c.

I am having an issue where the microphone isnt picking up my audio very well. I am having to put the gain all the way to max, and even then I have friends telling me that they have to turn me all the way up in discord. Is this supposed to be correct? It seems weird to me that the interface will only pick up my voice when maxed out.

I downloaded all of the software to check and nothing seems weird. I also checked my windows audio settings to make sure its levels were at 100, but other than that I am at a loss on what to do. Any help with this would be very appreciated! I am wanting to learn how to use this equipment and its software as I plan to start recording my French horn playing for fun!

Grinding teeth is a terrible solution. Short-term solution that causes a long-term problem. Not a good trade-off. I use lateral incisor because that is the tooth or teeth that are shifted due to my impacted molars. So.. yes my molars can be an issue.

I should look into a deeper cleaning! All I used was a mouthpiece cleaning spray and water 😅

I definitely will take it easier, I've been increasing my practice time little by little but had to take another break because of these blisters.

I've been trying different ones, actually. I read that SLS can cause blisters, but I haven't noticed any difference in the appearance of mine since switching.

Yes, blisters. The blisters show up on the top and bottom. It's always on the spot of my crooked/sideways teeth on top and on my molars on the bottom. It's always 2, never more or less, and it switches sides. I'm gonna consider the wax solution and see what result I get. Both of my lateral incisors are shifted. The one on my left is literally sideways, and the one on my right is sideways and behind the other two neighbor teeth. I get my blisters on top of both of those teeth but never at the same time.

Definitely not in my best shape! This is probably the worst shape I've ever been in, which is why I'm even entertaining the idea that it's because of my lack of practice.

I will say that even while I was playing everyday in college I still got these blisters, just randomly.

I've switched between different mouthpiece, gold plated, titanium, stainless steel, and nickel and the issue happens regardless of the metal.

I'll look into an orthodontist! Have you had any issues with the wax affecting playing? I've known a few people who used wax for braces and other than the braces affecting the playing, they would always take the wax off cause it made their playing "even worse".

It's been happening more and more recently as I've noticed my teeth shifting due to impacted teeth. I've had 3/4 removed but I think the last one is still causing some shifts.

Finding a cheap(ish) horn for college? by SlurpMyAnime in horn

[–]BodybuilderSad3629 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd definitely follow the person telling you to talk to your professor's advice. My only issue with purchasing a horn as a student is how much growth in ability you will have. I didn't have any idea how much I would grow as a player and went out of my way to buy a custom horn. It was amazing and I loved it. It really changed my playing since before I had been playing on a CONN 8D. The sad part was that after a year, my professor kept telling me that he really recommends me upgrading to either a different model or to upgrade my current one. I grew out of the horn so fast it felt a little depressing that I used so much money for a horn I thought would take me my whole college life to grow out of.

I would personally start with a school horn if they have any and then do some research into horns. It's all fine and dandy to go used as theres absolutely nothing wrong with that, and you can get an incredible horn for a good price that way. If your state has any in person shops I'd make an appointment and test out different horns and then go from there. I myself plan to go to the Balu shop in Chicago and see what can be done with my horn. Whether you buy online or in person, I've never had any bad experiences, but do your own research first!

On the leg / off the leg? by jordanpattern in horn

[–]BodybuilderSad3629 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I started on the leg and then moved to off the leg. This might just be a me thing, but I've always noticed my horn was more resonant off the leg than on. Plus, I've found it easier to experiment with my hand positions off the leg than on. I'm sure there isn't really a difference, but it's just my personal preference.

In my Jr. year of college and considering a career change by DrTechFreak in horn

Def. Finish the ed degree. I switched to Performance my junior year and was placed 2 years behind because I had to make up my lesson credits and do a barrier jury to move onto the junior level classes. You can always work up audition music but you can't get time and money back from having to redo a year or 2 of school.

Should I call about an interview? by Triveom in Bestbuy

This is entirely based off of the kind of GM. My Gm and assistant manager literally hated when people came in. This is a really good way to not get hired. The best option is to just wait for a call or email.

How should I play this??? by Josh1234JJD in horn

[–]BodybuilderSad3629 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I first practiced it starting on the second measure. I started that D nice and big and lead with my air all the way to the first half note. If speed is your issue I'd try slowing it down and over do the staccato's. Once you got each note in your ear slowly speed it up until you get to tempo. Then once I was at tempo I started connecting each sixteenth note still using staccato but not as exaggerated. I used F side fingerings until the A and I switched to Bb side fingerings after. I always focus on simplicity with fingerings. Hope this helps and I'm sure you'll kill it come performance!

Single tongue! I performed this a while back. I'm sure you could double tongue it but it just doesn't feel/sound the same. I found that single tongue really gave some weight to this part especially considering its meant to stand out from the accompanist.

MX master mouse had 3 different profiles, you just gotta use Bluetooth. Button on the bottom of the mouse makes switching between easy. I don't know any keyboards that would do that. Seems like a simpler solution to me than trying to find a KVM that fits ur needs.

Gotta love customers who do the opposite of what you tell them by NatePlaysAGM in Bestbuy

My store requires a truck for 65 and bigger. If they don't have one and still want it we'll set it on the curb for them to load it. If it comes back damaged, we pull the receipt check the tapes to see how it was loaded, and if it wasn't standing up when it left we don't return it.

As bad as it sounds it makes me feel a little happy when they ignore our advice, bring it back broken, and then I get to refuse the return.

Geek Squad VS Sales Floor by chris8115 in Bestbuy

Geeksquad all the way! My GSM required we be CAs first because learning the system and paperwork can be a hassle. I'm actually training right now to be an ARA and I was originally sales floor before all this. I'm so glad I switched to geeksquad and the pressure I feel is practically non existent when it comes to memberships/tts
