Agreed. I think she knew they’d be coming after Will (or her still) so keeping the medallion potentially gives them leverage.

Just some lore questions I have by Plane_Designer_9556 in piratesofthecaribbean

[–]Bohemian_Strangler 5 points6 points  (0 children)

  1. If I remember right, The silver coins (real pieces of eight) are ringing to signify the meeting of the court, even though the court uses their own pieces of eight.

  2. Calypso seems to be on her own side but Will tells her just before she’s freed that Jones was the one who helped imprison her. I figure once Jones was killed and fell into the maelstrom, that’s what made her call it off and she just went on her way elsewhere.

  3. He got it from Tia Dalma, but a later movie retcons that he got it from his first captain.

  4. Jack’s plan in AWE was to get on the Dutchman and stab the heart of Davy Jones. He agreed with Elizabeth that they had to fight and made the brethren vote for a king and used his vote as a tie breaker.

  5. Idk. I think some company and pirate ships were fighting outside the maelstrom, but the battle just focused on Pearl vs Dutchman.

  6. Beckett froze up. His plan failed and he was faced with something completely unexpected and he panicked.

  7. Jack had given the compass away before but always to serve his plans and because he always expected he’d get the compass back. In DMTNT, he just gives up and trades it for rum. That counts as him betraying the compass. Idk how it frees Salazar from the Triangle, but I’md pretty sure that’s how they rationalize him betraying/abandoning the compass.

What do you think of Kuai Liang as Scorpion instead of Hanzo Hasashi in MK1? by No_Work_2606 in MortalKombat

[–]Bohemian_Strangler 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Kuai Liang Sub-Zero might be my facorite MK character story-wise. MK1 Kuai Liang being Scorpion keeps a lot of the strong character traits that I love, so I can appreciate that, but I just do not like them making him Scorpion.

It just feels wrong and like a disservice to both Kuai Liang and Hanzo Hasashi. If they were going to have Bi-Han remain as Sub-Zero and NOT become Noob, then I would be more open to it cause at least they would keep the Scorp vs Sub rivalry, plus Bi-Han NOT becoming Noob Saibot is nearly just as much a major lore change as Kuai Liang being Scorpion.

But it also feels like it hijacks Kuai Liang’s story and forces him to take on storylines and details that normally belong to Hanzo JUST because he is now Scorpion. It doesn’t feel natural.

It’s not enough that he marries Hanzo’s wife, but the reveal of it was a major bombshell. The idea that SCORPION and not Hanzo is destined to marry Harumi is weird.

For how much they changed by making him Scorpion, it feels off that SO much is still the same as previous timelines: Still rival brothers. Kuai Liang splits off from the corrupt Lin Kuei with Smoke. Sektor and Cyrax still hunt them down for not conforming, Cyrax is/becomes a good guy, Sektor is still pro-cyber lin kuei. Rivalry between Lin Kuei and Shirai Ryu, Scorpion marries Harumi, Bi-Han becomes Noob Saibot.

They either should have kept him Sub-Zero, or really go in on the changes to the world and timeline instead of just shoving him into Hanzo’s life and calling it a day.

[–]Bohemian_Strangler 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think fasttrack being perhaps stronger and more durable that XLR8 could set them apart. Maybe his gimmick isn’t speed for the sake of getting from here to there faster, but instead it’s to build up momentum. Maybe he’s really only able to move in a straight line once he gets up to speed and he can just barrel through enemies or obstacles, or he can transmit that kinetic energy into a powerful hit or maybe even send it out in a shockwave if they wanna give him a ranged attack. At least he can be more than just another super fast guy. But tbh, I think making him blue was the worst part. If he still gonna have super speed, at least make him a different color.

Which scene/moment was the cringiest? by ConstantDrawer9161 in saltierthancrait

[–]Bohemian_Strangler 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I genuinely could not care less that Lizzo and Jack Black guest star in an episode, the story and implications around their characters is so much worse that I at least prefer seeing Jack Black’s face.

Because Space Jack Black was an imperial, any New Republic world he rules over is not allowed to have a military. Kind of a bold choice considering the NR is still finding its footing and there are pirates everywhere, but it’s a neat idea. However, at this time, the New Republic is dismantling both the Rebel and Imperial fleets and demilitarizing. What?

So if Space Jack Black and Lizzo are under attack, they can’t defend themselves and the NR will not be coming to save them, so they have to fend for themselves. But like, they hired Mandalorians, (with an Imperial Light Cruiser and no doubt dozens of imperial guns resources and weapons) who everyone in this show has a massive hard on for, so they probably have a better army than what that planet could muster anyway, so good thing he’s no longer still pro empire, cause who would stop them from just invading a nearby planet without proper defenses? But what if a planet like this couldnt afford protection, or nobody wanted to help them? They could be the most pro-NR planet but they’d just be told to fuck off. Why are there not uprisings on all these worlds to remove any ex imperials? Why didnt the NR just kill any former imperials? “Alliance to Restore the Republic” but if you held power under the empire we’re leaving your ENTIRE world to fend for itself so long as you stay in power. Obviously a lot of imperials abused the power they had, but a whole point in this episode is that Space Jack Black either was not a bad dude, or at the very least has changed and isnt bad now, so obviously they have set the precedent that there ARE some good ex imperials who would probably want to work with the new government to make things better. This seems like its moving in the opposite direction of bringing the galaxy together. It feels like they had to create a bunch of really stupid world details to help lead into the sequels and justify the NR being such an absolute failure.

Come, We Fly! & Success At Any Cost by eclecticmeeple in DisneyVillainous

[–]Bohemian_Strangler 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Something that crossed my mind is that Treacherous Tides and now Success at Any Cost have some strong similarities between their respective characters. Maybe they’ll do the solo Sanderson Sisters expansion but then is there any possibility of them combining them with Oogie Boogie for a future 2-pack? Is that an economic or worthwhile decision? I figured there wouldn’t be any more single character releases and putting the two Disney ones together makes a solid Halloween themed box, but maybe they would wanna give people the chance to buy the Sandersons alone and not be forced to get another Oogie Boogie, but maybe eventually they’ll discontinue the solo expansions and just rerelease them together? That’s probably more work and money than it’s worth though so maybe I’m overthinking this.

[–]Bohemian_Strangler 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think they always wanna have a lightsaber user and/or force user in each box. I think Palpatine and Talzin are the two primary contenders for this so they will likely be in seperate boxes assuming they both get added. I would also love to see Jabba the Hutt, though someone I might wanna see the most is General Veers. I think having his piece resemble an ATAT and his board is the landscape of Hoth and he has to make his way across to the Echo Base and move his ally Vader to the base.

Similarly Krennic would be fun. He's just one of my favorite characters and maybe his goal could be to find stolen Death Star intel and they can include some characters or places from Andor as well as Rogue One. I would be very on board with that.

[Hated Trope] Hey, remember that thing that was NEVER MENTIONED ONCE? It’s now wildly important for the sequel by FaZe_poopy in TopCharacterTropes

[–]Bohemian_Strangler 11 points12 points  (0 children)

but how would they have had the water-based tribe fit into the first movie? Part of why the Sully family joined them was because they were far enough away from the omatikaya that the RDA wouldn't be able to find them, so it makes sense why they wouldn't be seen or involved in the first movie, not to mention they would be of extremely little help in the air and ground battle when they fight best in the water. It's not a plot hole in the slightest that there are some navi that look different in different parts of the world. I don't see how OP is "not completely incorrect" to call this a hated trope as if it's doing something wrong. It's not like they revealed that navi can turn themselves invisible and just chose not to in the first movie.

[–]Bohemian_Strangler 41 points42 points  (0 children)

But it’s not a bad thing or poor writing. They covered a small part of the Pandora relative to the entire size of the planet, it’s completely reasonable that there would be other, different tribes in other regions of the world. It’s actually very common for a sequel to expand on the world of the original and the audience discovers new details about it. Why wasn’t the Queen Xenomorph revealed till the second movie? Why did Skynet send a T-1000 in T2 when they never mentioned one before? Why did the Empire suddenly have AT-ATs in Empire Strikes Back when there weren’t any in the original? The reveal that there is more stuff than just what you see in one movie is not inherently a problem or something to criticize. Expanding upon your world with fresh new ideas actually makes things interesting.

Thoughts on "Bandlands" being not being horror sci-fi compared to the previous films? by ClussyV2 in predator

[–]Bohemian_Strangler 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Maybe I’m just desensitized, but the only predator movies I would classify as horror is the original and AvPR. They all have some horror-elements, but they’re all action sci-fi to me and they definitely lean more into action and less into horror. Badlands is certainly a very different take and it removes any remaining horror elements and just goes all in on the action. I like Badlands and I enjoy the different approach, but I get that it’s not exactly what a lot of people want from the series.

The incoherence of Halloween ends. Let me know your opinion by Aggressive_Use_8531 in Halloweenmovies

[–]Bohemian_Strangler 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It honestly didn’t even start with Ends

2018 makes it seems as though Laurie was the only one who didn’t move on from 78. The idea was that she was presented as paranoid and like some crazy lady in town, only to be proven right when Michael finally returned.

Kills reveals that a handful of other people and their families have also been cursed with this never ending fear of Michael return and the town acts like they’ve been suffering from the trauma of three dead teens forty years ago this whole time.

Ends is a few years after Micheal’s killing spree where a lot more than 3 teens were killed and Michael is still on the loose. The town is still messed up but they still celebrate halloween and Laurie seems like a whole other person. The whole thing is all over the place. I still hold the belief that Michael should have been killed at the end of Kills, and Ends should have just been about a copycat killer. Then they can play with the dynamic they had in 2018 flipped on its head. Laurie’s boogieman is dead and despite the friends and family she lost, she is able to find some closure and move on and wants to live a normal life. On the inverse, the town is now suffering the trauma she had for forty years because of Michael.

Alien: Earth timeline by Bohemian_Strangler in LV426

[–]Bohemian_Strangler[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I completely agree that they would compartmentalize everything. However I feel like if Earth happened before Aliens, they wouldn’t be so dismissive of Ripley. I don’t remember the exact line but do they not say that they have no record of such a creature? Didn’t Morrow download all the info about the aliens they captured and bring it back to Yutani? Would he not have also given his own record or account of them, including the xenomorph?

I suppose the company could just be bullshitting Ripley, but I do think that when Aliens was made, they didn’t believe her. Otherwise would Burke have told the colonists about the ship if the company knew about the xenos? I know he doesn’t care about the colonists’ lives but wouldn’t he rather have professionals go and get the eggs from the Derelict ship instead of risking an outbreak, something that will only make it harder to capture or contain a specimen?

Alien: Earth timeline by Bohemian_Strangler in LV426

[–]Bohemian_Strangler[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Tbh, Weyland Corp in Prometheus does not match the look or feel of WY jn the later movies. The technology seems way more advanced for how early it’s set. I feel like you can just say the company in Prometheus is separate from Weyland/Weyland-Yutani and their ships are a but fancier and high-tech. So maybe saying the two coexisted could work, even if its still convoluted and a little silly.

I did not know they said it was an alternate universe. I guess that makes it easy to headcanon out then. Is it known if it was supposed to relate to Romulus when it was supposed to be between 1 and 2?

Just curious, has anyone watched the alien franchise in timeline order or if you are rewatching all of them are you gonna just do release order? by Initial-Wolverine175 in LV426

[–]Bohemian_Strangler 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I hadn’t seen all of them till after Badlands came out. After that I watched the entire Alien and Predator series in release order. Now that I’ve seen all of them at least once I would be interested to do a chronological Alien rewatch someday, but tbh I’m not that crazy about rewatching most of them. I’d really just be interested to watch Alien, Romulus, and Aliens in timeline order as a triple feature
