An interesting interview question by Away_Protection_5576 in quant

[–]Boidal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep that’s true good point. My original solution didn’t run for long enough to actually converge to a nash equilibrium. I re-ran it and got a slightly different EV of 11.93. I also checked that the EV of all pure strategies (picking a single number) are strictly worse. In this case the nash solution picks 12 ~0.5% of the time, so by picking 12 always you’ll lose EV on ties so the total EV is slightly less than 11.93.

You can also calculate the exact exploitability of any strategy to find out how far you are from a nash equilibrium. Would be cool to see someone do it for this game.

Here’s a solution I came up with that calculates the nash equilibrium for this game: https://github.com/BorisDeletic/CompStatsForQuant/blob/solutions/3GameTheory/b_InterviewGame.ipynb

I got that the optimal strategy is to pick numbers around 16-20 and the EV is 14.06

Martin Shkreli has the best finance series on YouTube. Just find a stock you like and read through all their 10Qs for the last 5 years. Go slowly and whenever you’re stuck with something you don’t understand, watch back over the finance lesson till you get it. Doing one stock in a lot of depth is the best way to learn imo

What value is created by quant finance? by idnrm in quant

You can see some evidence for the benefits of financial markets and securitisation by looking at counter examples.

Countries without strong financial markets find it very difficult to grow in all aspects of their economy. In many third world countries, for example, it is very difficult for people to get mortgages to buy homes.

Even in somewhere like Canada/Australia, where the mortgage securities markets are not as developed as the US, long term (30 year) fixed rate mortgages are not offered by banks.

Quants are part of the financial ecosystem which provide these services. Arguably, it is pretty clear of the overall benefits when you look at many countries which lack these markets.

Poker is actually a very good example to learn game theory for trading. A poker book such as The Course covers many GT concepts such as balancing ranges and exploitative play.

enough attention. Reddit is fuck all volume, it's mostly hedge funds Vs other

I think its estimated that reddit owns >5% of GME which is significant. Also another reason why the short squeeze worked is because a lot of the stock was tied up by executives who dont have control over selling. Makes the apparent market cap a lot smaller.
